What I meant to do yesterday

Yesterday I wanted to show you a little of what I had done with my days off. For some reason I was getting an error message when I tried to upload the photos.
So here we go today.
I was in a bit of a crafty mood. If you've been following my blog awhile, you may remember me showing you the frosting containers that I was decorating to use as Christmas presents. Well I did a few of those. I also added coffee cans (the red and green Folgers plastic ones) to the list of things I was saving.
I don't have an actual table or anything to work on. All my craft stuff is pretty much stashed in my computer room. So I got out all my junk and spread it out on the floor and started playing. Here's my mess. I did tidy up just a bit before I took the picture.

So far I've done 7 of the frosting containers. I'll use these to hold either home made candy or maybe some cocoa mix. Or something else, not quite sure yet.

This is a picture of one of the coffee containers. Since it's already green it was pretty easy to do. Just add some fancy ribbon and make a fancy bow for the top. The lid was black which I didn't care for so I painted that with gold metallic paint. The other thing in the picture is a leftover ceramic tile I had from when we did our kitchen floor years ago. I cut up some old Christmas cards and then decoupaged them on to the tile. I'm working on another one of those right now.

Well that was my creative spurt while I was off.
First day back today was a killer. I'm beat....lol

You put my lame crafting attempts to shame. Damn, girl.

You're so smart to recycle! Usually the containers are the most expensive part of the gifts. Very creative, pally!

Those who receive gifts in your beautitful containers must feel quite special indeed!

Everything turned out wonderful! I hadn't thought of using old tile that way but I love it!

Vange, if it will make you feel better I can post some of my more lame attempts...lol

Lin, creative is a much better words than saying I'm too cheap to buy gifts...lol

Kml, well I sure hope they like them.

beadedtail, I saw that idea somewhere on the internet about a year ago, i couldn't find it again to get exact directions but I think I muddled through ok. I'm not real happy with that one but it was just a test any way to see if it would work the way I did it

Hi Ann - Have you downloaded Windows Live Writer - that makes photos so much easier to download onto your blog - you can also re-size them making them both larger and smaller. I have only had it a few months but makes blogging so much easier. If you haven't got it then it really is worth thinking about as you can drag and drop pictures if they start being awkward!!

You just gave me an idea on how to use old tiles but I don't know anything about decoupage. Wanted to learn but never had the time... OK, OK... I am just lazy! ^-^

Those are so cute and creative! I'm so uncrafty it's not even funny. Those are going to make such great gifts and adorable containers. It is also great that you are recycling.
Hope you are having a wonderful week:)

Those are amazing!! I've been recycling my Folgers cans, might have to figure out something to decorate them with too!

Tammy said...

I love what you made. The Folgers can is great. I think I'm going to have to make a couple of these too. What a great idea!!!!!

I sure wasn't handed the creative talent when it was being passed out but I am very visual and when I see great ideas like you have created - then my creative juices get rolling!

Thanks so much for sharing your wonderful containers. Lucky are the folks who receive these!

Ann those are beautiful!.... I just asked on my blog yesterday what I can do with my collection of coffee containers.... the large ones. So if you have any ideas please pass them on.

I was wondering what kind of products you are using for glue, paint etc so that it sticks well on these plastics? Some just peel right off.

Thanks!... and keep those creative juices flowing!

A Lil Enchanted,
~LaShan~

I love the tile, that turned out beautifully. When I saw your earlier post about the containers I thought how clever you were and they look great. I wish I had the patience, but I'm not very creative and I get too frustrated when I try.

Those are so nice Annie, I love them.

Kloggers/Polly, I'll have to look into that, thanks

Nessa, it's really pretty simple. I use ModPodge, I've had the bottle of it for years kept meaning to try it out and finally got around to it...lol

Roschelle, you are creative with words my geeky friend....lol

Angel, thanks I'm hoping whoever gets them likes them.

Audrey, If you come up with any other ideas I'de love to see them

B Boys mom, it sure beats spending a fortune and making them is more fun than shopping

thank you very much IcyBc

thanks January

Jody, I really can't come up with the ideas on my own. I see something else and then work from there. I wish I could be original...lol

thank you very much randomcreative

A lil enchanted, left you a comment on your blog hope it helps

Jude, I get frustrated a lot too, but I hate to give up...lol

Miawa, you always flatter me...lol

Ann, I think an article of your flops would be fun. Or, at least, it would alleviate my feelings of inadequacy. Heh.

The frosting container is such a great idea; it is a perfit fit for so many small items. I've always thought that we throw away so much that could be useful. When I had young children we used to save up all kinds of kitchen stuff that would go to the school for crafting work.

Ann said...

Well Vange, I'll certainly see what I can do. Maybe I have a flop or two that I never got rid of.

Doug.the only problem with saving all the stuff that could be useful is that it seems to annoy the heck out of my husband who throws EVERYTHING away...lol Thanks for stopping by today.

Love the frosting containers! What did you cover them with? Did you decoupage them? Hmm I feel a little fa la la coming on!

Rick (Ratty) said...

That looks like a lot of work, but it must have been very satisfying. It looks like it might be fun.

vickie said...

Every year we make homemade cookies and stuff to give ... and I always have trouble finding containers. Your's are so cool ;)

Anne said...

Those look so great! It is amazing what you are able to do with what others would consider garbage!

Donna said...

What a Terrific IDEA Girl!! I can see all Sorts of possibilities for those containers! Pens, pencils, candy, stationary...just junk...One by the washingmachine for treasures found in pockets...and On and On!!
You're Good!!!
Have a Crafty weekend sweetie!!hughugs

vange said...

Seriously, I would send you empty containers and pay for you to make them useful.

Ann said...

Buggys, yes decoupaged them. Some I used paper, some I used up old fabric scraps.

Ratty, not really all that much work, more like fun. I sometimes even get obsessive about it.

Vickie, well there you go, start saving those coffee cans...lol

Anne, thanks, guess that's why they say one mans trash is another mans treasure :)

Donna, oooo a container for washing machine treasures, I like that idea

Vange, the containers were already useful just not real pretty :)

Ann, great idea! :) Thanks for stopping by my blog today Scrappinlife.blogspot.com. :)

I love your idea of recycling! We always save coffee cans because they're some kind of project in the making. Of course nothing ever gets done with them until we run out of space and put them in the recycling. Thanks for the inspiration.

Hi Ann...they all look so great...I wish I had the time and inclination to always do things like this. I have an engraving set and glass paints and I will sometimes make frames and stuff for people...but I've never had the time to make the packaging....you must have plenty of patience...and some lovely ideas!!

Love the frosting containers! I always wonder what I could do with them. I always keep them. Thanks for the idea.

Tanyia said...

Ann, those are frickin adorable! I love 'em!

Kim, it was my pleasure, I enjoyed the visit

Wordwire, I'm a bit of a junk collector, every now and then I have to clean house and get rid of some of it that I realize I'm never going to use it for what I thought I was going to

allotments4you you wouldn't believe the various craft supplies that I've bought with intentions of using them SOME day :)

Sheri, well there you have it, now you can start decorating your collection :)

Tanyia, thanks sis. maybe I do have a little tiny bit of your creativity after all :)
