Since you asked

A couple of you asked what kind of camera I got so thank you for giving me a subject for today's post. From what I've heard, the two top choices would be canon or nikon. But, I didn't go with that. Not that I thought the one I ended up with was better, it was more a matter of the money. The one I got was of course on sale so that was a key factor. Since I have never used a DSLR before, I didn't want to go too high because, well, because I doubt myself too much. By that I mean that I had to wonder if I my bad photography is due to camera or person taking the pictures. Anyway this is what I got.

I took a picture of the box....lol I'm still working on learning all the settings on it so I have taken LOTS of bad pictures but then I did that with my other camera too. I think that's half the fun though.

Here's a picture I took the other night when I was playing around

And here is one out my back door. This darn snow STILL hasn't stopped. We have snow in the forecast for the entire week.

Well the camera came with one lens ( 1855 DT 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 lens), it's 10.2 megapixel, it has a tiltable LCD monitor on it, which I thought was pretty cool. Also, I did research this camera before I bought it and I hadn't read any bad reviews on it.

Now I'm just working on trying to figure out where everything is on it and how to use it all. I have been taking pictures in the manual mode though rather than just using the auto setting.

I'm off to go play some more. Have a great night everyone.

Well, I would have asked, but I don't know anything about cameras so all this info is Greek to me. It's a fine looking camera though. I'm sure you are going to have lots of fun taking photographs. Good for you.

Have a terrific day. :)

Ooooh, nothing like a new camera to play with! I've had mine almost 2 years and I'm still playing with it. Nice photos already, Ann!

Hi Ann! Happy new year 2010 :)

What was the middle part, again (lol). I did a lot of research when I bought my wife's camera. It's just a simple point and shoot, although I would love to play with a "real" camera someday.
Have fun!

Are we having fun yet? We sure are! I managed to shoot some video with my new toy the other day, then couldn't figure out how to play it back *grin*. I know you'll have a grand time experimenting, and you are absolutely right in saying that it is half the fun! The shot of the snow out your back door is just beautiful (I can say that easily these days because I don't have to shovel it anymore :o) Have fun playing with your new toy!

Nice camera! We got a new digital one a couple of years ago, not nearly as fancy as yours :)
When we get a new "gadget" we give it to son 1 who loves to figure out how everything works, then he can tell us how to use it!

That shot of the candle is pretty cool! Of course, the shot of the snow is absolutely frigid. "Frigid." Did you get it? Oh my, I crack myself up.

Nice! Enjoy playing with your new camera. the more photos you take the better they'll get and then you'll be lens shopping before you know it. :-) Cause that's the real beauty of the dslr, the ability to use different lenses.

Enjoy your new camera.

I've been toying with the idea of taking photography classes and maybe some day getting a really good camera. For now, it's hit or miss when it comes to taking photos. But some day . ..

Congratulations and it should be a fun journey to learn the new camera!! I dream of springing for a DSLR, having come to digital photography from many, many years of using regular old Nikon SLR cameras (I wore out or lost 3 in my career and the 4th poor thing has been in a bag since I entered the digital age...with lesser cameras!) I go and fiddle with them at Best Buy, but have so far resisted the purchase...soon I shall succumb, I hope!! Ha ha, at any rate, have a good time as it's not the destination, it's the journey, right??!

Wow Congrats Ann! You already have a perfect shot on photo # 2. Learning how to use your equipment is a continuing process like me until now I'm still learning how to use my DSLR. lol.

Cool camera ;) I want the SNOW!

Lenox Knits said...

I actually looked at that one myself. I liked the swivel screen which I have in my point and shoot. But I ended up going with Canon basically because it is my comfort zone.

Ann said...

WillOaks, thanks, I'm hoping to have it all figured out sooner or later. With all the snow we have it's tough to get out and do much playing.

January, like anything I suppose. the more you play the more you learn

Gayle, good luck on your search

Vickie, you can have all the snow you want...lol

Lenox Knits Since I've never had any of the top names in cameras I didn't have a comfort zone to work with...lol

Karla said...

Lol, I certainly agree with you about the snow..although the snow would be okay if it werent so COLD! Photos and post are very cute thanks for the smile:)

Ann said...

Thyme2dream, I wouldn't mind it at all if it wasn't cold, I wonder where you can find warm snow...lol
