The Boxcar Children

I remember when I was a kid reading a series of books called The Boxcar Children. They were all about the adventures of the Alden children. After the death of their parents they were to live with their grandfather but they ran away and found an old abandoned boxcar that they lived in.
It's been years since I thought about these stories but I saw something while out walking that brought them all back to mind.
This may not be a box car, but it was close enough to remind me of the books
Did you ever read The Boxcar Children? What was your favorite book when you were a child?

Very cool photo, Ann! I was not familiar with that series of books. Isn't it fun when something long forgotten pops back into our thoughts :)

That would certainly remind me of those stories. I'm pretty sure that I remember reading those stories. If they're the ones I'm thinking of, I really likes them.

Sorry but I am not familiar with The Boxcar Children. My favorite book when I was still a kid was "Jack and the Beanstalk". It was a classic. ^_^

I'm not familiar with that story but it sounds like a good series. Great photo too - looks like that "boxcar" has lots of tales to tell.

For minute I thought you were referring to the children who were shipped out west on the "orphan" trains - interesting story that one.

I don't know if I have a favorite book from childhood - I read everything I could get my hands on and I still have 3 or 4 of them. The earliest memory I have of a book was a big picture book version of the Wizard of Oz.

And yes, a very cool picture.

My daughters read The Boxcar Children books ~ in fact I think I still have a stack of them. My favorites were Trixie Beldon, Donna Parker and Nancy Drew...all mystery series.
Great photo ~ I can see how it reminds you of boxcars.

I haven't read The Boxcar Children but it sounds like a great book. I don't recall having a favorite book as a child but I do remember the story about the Tortoise and the Hare because I was forced to play the Hare in a play... I think I was about 7 or 8 years old then.

I have heard of the title, but can't remember whether I read them or not! My favourite books were those written by Astrid Lindgren. The stories were so wholesome :)

Great photo. I am not familiar with the Boxcar Children though. As a kid I think I read every Nancy Drew book and Every book written by Judy Bloom.

Never read them. Your picture does look like a box car. I spent some time in them when I was young.I didn't physically lose my parents. My brother and I use to run away all the time.We always got caught and brought back to the leather strap.
I liked A Tale of Two Cities. It goes way back in my family.Actually in France.

Nope, I missed that series. Was it based upon true events?

Had lots of these for my girls, always got them when at garage sales.

I missed that series, too. I was way into Alice in Wonderland (over and over) and Nancy Drew mysteries. Which is interesting...I HATE mystery stories now. Guess I just read too much of them when I was a kid!

You know I've never read that series but it sounds like something I would like. I love adventures. I had many favorites but the one that really sticks with me is the Old Man and The Sea.

My favorite book when I was a child was Noddy. It's about a wooden toy with the spring as his neck. Very entertaining :)

YES I sure do remember reading these books. What memories this has brought back. I don't know what grade I was in but my teacher read several of these books to the class.

The name sounds really familiar but I don't remember if I read them or not. If I do, I don't remember then but I bet they are good stories. Thanks for the reminder.
Have a great week end.
An extra treat for Duke please.

I never read them! They sound like something I would of liked. I liked Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn. Read them about 100 times. This is another cool, but creepy picture! Don't old buildings seem eerie?

I've never read The Boxcar Children...but I am intrigued by what you have said so I am going to look them up...I don't know what was my favourite book as a child really....I loved Richard Adams and have a collection of Animal Stories which were hand picked by him and although I was bought this book for my 10th Christmas I still have it. I also remember reading a book called, Goodnight Mister Tom...it was quite a sad book and I remember crying my way through to the end...maybe not my most favourite books as a child but two of my most memorable reads!!

Donna, I guess we're even because I never heard of either of those two books...lol

It has to be "where the wild things are" and "in the night kitchen"! Although I do remember loving "Ferdinand" as well. Actually, I think I love all the books I've read. I've been a bookworm forver!

Oh you've brought back a great memory, Ann! I loved that book... I say book, because I don't think I've read others in the series, but I loved the one that started it off. My mom was a children's librarian and she brought it home for me and mys sister to read. It was old even then, but so good.
