The plan

In my travels through blog land I've noticed that some of you are way ahead in the Christmas decorating while some, like me, are way behind. I'm having a little trouble getting around to pulling those boxes of  20 some years worth of decorations out of their comfy little storage spot. It's not that I'm suffering from that bah humbug feeling, I'm just not looking forward to the mess that will result from all those boxes.
Then it hit me. The plan is perfect I tell you.
Instead of getting out all my decorations I'll just post all the wonderful pictures of decorations I've collected from one place or another and adopt them as my own.
No mess, no fuss, no clean up.
So just look at what I've accomplished.
I've got the tree up and it gave my living room a whole log cabin kind of feel. Isn't it amazing?

No? You're not buying it? (pause for big sigh here)
Oh well, I don't think my kids will let me get away with it either. It's just not right, they are adults you know, I shouldn't have to keep doing this every year. I suppose they would probably have a problem with their gifts being wrapped in grocery bags too huh?

More thoughts

I know I may be getting carried away with the "think happy" thing but I'm pretty sure that all of us can use the little extra reminders this time of year.

I'm really only thinking of your well being here.
If the holidays start to get you down and you're feeling a little squirly

I want you to stop what you are doing and  repeat the following as many times as necessary.

There, don't you feel better already?

Indulge yourself

That's what I've been doing and that is why today's post has no pictures. I spent the whole weekend indulging myself.
I slept in late.
I enjoyed a good book.
I enjoyed a few good Christmas movies on television.
I bought myself a new mug just because I could.
I ate potato chips and chocolate without guilt.
I read blog without commenting.
I enjoyed the company of a little white dog who just so happened to be indulging himself in a few of my snacks.

So go ahead. Indulge yourself. What nice thing are you going to do for yourself today?

After some serious consideration and a little coaxing from Duke I'm indulging you with an old picture.

Thought for the day

Now that the holiday season has begun I think this is a good time to share a little thought with you.

I found this little gem in a shop in Volant. I didn't bring the actual ornament home with me but I loved the thought and I knew I would need reminded of this at least once or twice.

I wish we could put up some of the Christmas spirit in jars and open a jar of it every month.  ~Harlan Miller

fallen angel

I have a cheap dollar store angel that I put on my bathroom shelf at Christmas time a couple  years ago and it never got put away. It didn't look real Christmassy and when I packed everything up I kept forgetting it was there. She was guardian angel of the bathroom, protecting all that shower from slips and falls.
That is until I came home from work the other day and found ...
 Amanda is temporarily staying with us and she left me this note on my desk. Now I obviously went wrong somewhere with her. Why the heck didn't she glue her back together and put her on the shelf like nothing ever happened. I'm having visions of falling and breaking a hip in the shower now that my bathroom guardian angel is gone.

Black Friday

Hello Everyone. Mom said that today is something called black Friday.

Now I'm not sure what exactly that is but I don't think it includes little white dogs like me. I don't like being left out of anything. I think that I should be the center of attention. Don't you?
Well I'm not going to let this black Friday thing pass me over just because I don't fit the bill. I'm going to do something about it right now.

OK Mom, I'm ready for black Friday.

Happy Thanksgiving

More Than A Day
As Thanksgiving Day rolls around,
It brings up some facts, quite profound.
We may think that we're poor,
Feel like bums, insecure,
But in truth, our riches astound.
We have friends and family we love;
We have guidance from heaven above.
We have so much more
Than they sell in a store,
We're wealthy, when push comes to shove.
So add up your blessings, I say;
Make Thanksgiving last more than a day.
Enjoy what you've got;
Realize it's a lot,
And you'll make all your cares go away.
By Karl Fuchs

Wishing you all a very Happy Thanksgiving. To those of you who are outside of the U.S. and not celebrating today enjoy your day no matter how you may be spending it.
Duke and I are thankful for each and every one of you

knee deep

Only one more day before Thanksgiving here in the U.S. Can you guess what I'll be doing all day today?
I'll be knee deep in breads, rolls, and pies. I think I have a cookie tray that I have to do today too.
Oh how I hope that 2:30 rolls around quick so I can go home.

Getting it back together

Looks like I did it again. I had not intended to be missing in action from the blog world but I was having a I don't want to kind of day on Sunday. I already told you how my Saturday went but come Sunday it got even worse. I didn't want to do anything and I drove myself nuts with complete boredom. There were lots of things I could have done to entertain myself but I just did not want to do any of them.

There were three different projects that I picked up to work on and then set them back down. Didn't feel like it.

I picked up my book to read and after a couple pages put it back down. Just didn't feel like it.

Email, didn't feel like it.
Blog, didn't feel like it.
Shopping, didn't feel like it.

Monday morning, alarm goes off, time to get ready for work, didn't feel like it.

TOO BAD, SUCK IT UP AND DO IT!!!!!

SIGH

OK fine.
I think I'm all better now

No Point

There is no point in even trying to deny it. The plain and simple truth is that I was lazy yesterday. I had plans. I was going to catch up on crafting, cleaning and go grocery shopping.
What actually happened was that I got up early, drank some coffee, read some blogs, drank some more coffee then laid in front of the TV and took a nap.
No grocery shopping was done, I didn't even leave the house.
Craft projects are still sitting unfinished. I believe the total number started is now up to 6.
My house isn't cleaned, although it's not a total pig sty yet.
The only thing I did manage to finish was a bag of potato chips, some hershey kisses and a digital doodle.
I don't think I'll make any plans for today. Maybe I'll get more done. I doubt it, but stranger things have happened.

Sending an Angel

I FINALLY got around to picking the winner for the book giveaway that I posted a week ago. Let me tell you this has been one crazy week around here. I'm hoping this weekend I can catch up on a few things before Monday rolls around again.
Anyway, on with the big news. There were 12 people who were entered in to the drawing for the book. Once again I used random org to make the choice for me.
Counting down in order as they appeared and counting only those who did not specify they did not want to be included #4  and the lucky winner is
Donna from Cottage Days and Journeys

For those of you who didn't win, don't despair. I hopefully have another giveaway coming up after the first of December.

As for me I think I'm going to spend the next two days catching up on some crafting, cleaning, and getting some grocery shopping done before all the good turkeys are picked over.  I think I need a vacation.

This and that

First of all let me just say OH NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We're getting snow

I took the above picture through the window at around 4:30 p.m. Thursday. About a half hour later the grass was almost completely covered.
Pause here to shiver

I recently won a giveaway. I was thrilled when Ginny from Let your light shine announced that I had won the Scotty dog purse she was giving away.

Duke would like to clarify something here.

According to Duke, that is not a Scotty dog. It is a West Highland White Terrier silhouette. So thank you again Ginny for the Westie silhouette purse :)

Finally I wanted to tell you that I haven't forgotten about the book giveaway. I'll be doing that either tomorrow or the day after.
I'm very far behind on email, blog reading and everything else. It's amazing how much can pile up around you when you take a couple days off from everything.

I made a decision

I finally picked my Christmas card from Shutterfly and placed my order.

5x7 Folded Card
View the entire collection of cards.

Doesn't he make a great card? Now wasn't that a silly question. Of course he does.
I'm still trying to catch  up on things around here and it may be a few days. I went back to work today and I'm a bit wiped out.

Please excuse my mom

You'll have to excuse my mom for being absent from blogging yesterday and today. Yesterday morning she took a trip to the emergency room because she was having some really bad back pains. Don't worry, it's nothing serious unless you consider the fact that she doesn't feel like playing much. The doctor thought that she had kidney stones but all her tests came back negative and he said that it was just back pain and told her to take a couple days off work. He gave her two bottles of treats and she's been sleeping a lot.

Isn't it funny

It seems that no matter where I go I always see something that reminds me of my wonderful blog pals.
When we were walking through one of the shops in Volant I spotted a sign that made me think of Jen from Equine Epiphanies

where there's smoke there's fire

Yesterdays trip to Volant did not yield a whole lot of pictures. It was fun but several of the shops that used to be there had closed. I guess the rotten economy is hitting everywhere.
After we got done with the shopping we stopped at Wendy's to grab some lunch. While we were sitting there eating we noticed that there was something going on across the street.
The ambulance and police had already arrived and they were waiting for the fire trucks. It didn't take long for the sky to fill with smoke and before long we could see the flames shooting up. While I was taking the pictures through the window I heard a loud boom. No idea what exactly was on fire, we assumed it was a vehicle.
Somebody was not having a good day.

Logical Conclusion

Yesterday morning we awoke to snow on the ground. I was expecting it but it was still a bit of a shock. The first snowfall always is. All that snow made me think of angels. Snow angels to be exact. (sorry but I couldn't resist a little shameless self promotion)
The natural progression of my thought process took me to the latest book that I finished reading.

All I'm going to say about this book is that I did enjoy it. I don't want to spoil the surprise for the person who
Wins this book
in my latest
GIVEAWAY!!!
This isn't going to be your typical giveaway though. This is going to be the giveaway that keeps on giving. Or at least that's the plan any way.
In order to win this book you must be a blogger and you must agree to pass this on in a giveaway of your own once you've read it.
It only seems logical that a book about angels (who just so happen to be prayer ambassadors) should travel.
So there you have it. Leave me a comment. Unless you specify that you "DO NOT" want to be included I'll assume that you're in. Some time next week I'll post the winner. I would be more specific about when I'll do the drawing but as of late I don't seem to be keeping a schedule too well.

I'm off to Volant Mills (another shameless promotion, with scenes from last years trip) with my friend Debbie today so I won't be around to visit till later tonight or tomorrow.

Furriends

Are you Furriends of the Cat Blogosphere? Do you know what that is? I'm sure that many of you know Marg of Marg's Pets and if you do you know that she takes care of lots of kitties as well as a couple of cute little donkeys. Furriends of the CB is an auction to help raise funds for vet bills. If you have an item you would like to donate to the auction I know that it would be greatly appreciated. If you don't have anything to donate you might want to take a look at what's being auctioned off. There are some great items up for bidding over there.
You'll even see a couple things that I donated.

I wonder if perhaps shorter sermons would help.

I'm finished

Yes I am. I'm finished, done, completed.
I've read another book and I reached the end. I actually finished two but I'm only going to talk about one today. I discovered a renewed love of reading. I haven't read in quite some time because whenever I opened a book I would fall asleep. I started taking books to work with me and I read on my breaks and lunches. It may take me a while to finish but it gives me something to do.
Quite some time ago, my cousin sent me a book. I had started it when I first got it but maybe because of my situation at the time I wasn't able to get very far with it. I finally picked it up and I'm glad I did.
Beautiful Boy is a father's journey through his sons addiction to methamphetamine. I know that this isn't the most uplifting kind of story to read but I have to say that anyone who has ever watched a family member or friend struggle with addiction will relate to much of what is said in this book. I think one of the hardest parts for family and friends of addicts of any kind is the feeling of helplessness. Talking with others who are in the same situation can be a great relief  and lets you know that you aren't alone. The book includes links to helpful websites as well as a list of other resources for anyone seeking help. I think that Beautiful Boy provides some understanding as to what it's like to deal with addiction.

Tomorrow, I'll go back to something more lighthearted :)

Day Care

One of my neighbors has a sign in her front yard advertising for day care.
I'm assuming that potty training is included.

Strolling

Oh what a beautiful weekend it was. It was a dog walking, bike riding, lawn mowing kind of weather.
Blue skies, sunshine and 63 degree weather called for a little strolling.

Duke and I headed down the street. I was amazed at how there were no leaves on the sidewalk here.

Our destination was the park.

We saw lots of town folk along the way. They smiled at us and we did the same.

Time to head home. I wonder if we should maybe rake our leaves?
No, I like the sound when you walk through them and Duke thinks they are full of wonderful scents.

The frost is on the pumpkin

I don't recall ever having read this whole poem, so I went in search of it.

When the Frost is on the Punkin

By James Whitcomb Riley 1849–1916
When the frost is on the punkin and the fodder’s in the shock,
And you hear the kyouck and gobble of the struttin’ turkey-cock,
And the clackin’ of the guineys, and the cluckin’ of the hens,
And the rooster’s hallylooyer as he tiptoes on the fence;
O, it’s then’s the times a feller is a-feelin’ at his best,
With the risin’ sun to greet him from a night of peaceful rest,
As he leaves the house, bareheaded, and goes out to feed the stock,
When the frost is on the punkin and the fodder’s in the shock.

They’s something kindo’ harty-like about the atmusfere
When the heat of summer’s over and the coolin’ fall is here—
Of course we miss the flowers, and the blossums on the trees,
And the mumble of the hummin’-birds and buzzin’ of the bees;
But the air’s so appetizin’; and the landscape through the haze
Of a crisp and sunny morning of the airly autumn days
Is a pictur’ that no painter has the colorin’ to mock—
When the frost is on the punkin and the fodder’s in the shock.

The husky, rusty russel of the tossels of the corn,
And the raspin’ of the tangled leaves, as golden as the morn;
The stubble in the furries—kindo’ lonesome-like, but still
A-preachin’ sermuns to us of the barns they growed to fill;
The strawstack in the medder, and the reaper in the shed;
The hosses in theyr stalls below—the clover over-head!—
O, it sets my hart a-clickin’ like the tickin’ of a clock,
When the frost is on the punkin and the fodder’s in the shock!

Then your apples all is gethered, and the ones a feller keeps
Is poured around the celler-floor in red and yeller heaps;
And your cider-makin’ ’s over, and your wimmern-folks is through
With their mince and apple-butter, and theyr souse and saussage, too! ...
I don’t know how to tell it—but ef sich a thing could be
As the Angels wantin’ boardin’, and they’d call around on me
I’d want to ’commodate ’em—all the whole-indurin’ flock—
When the frost is on the punkin and the fodder’s in the shock!

Boy did my spell check have a field day with this one. The screen was splashed with so many squiggly red lines it wasn't even funny.
So what do some of those words mean? I went and looked

Fodder-coarse food (especially for cattle and horses) composed of entire plants or the leaves and stalks of a cereal crop
Shock- a pile of sheaves of grain set on end in a field to dry
Hallylooyer= Hallelujah
Stock= Livestock (animals on the farm)
Airly= Early
Tossels= Tassels
Furries= Furrows (rows of crops, I think)
Medder= Meadow
Hosses= Horses

Hooray for the weekend

Oh how I love the weekends. I can get up early or sleep in late. I can clean my house or not. I can shop, blog, craft, lounge. I can do all of those things or none of those things.
I have so many options for today and tomorrow.
The weekend promises to be a beautiful one and since there won't be many of those left I should take advantage of it.
Whatever you choose to do today, Duke and I hope that you enjoy it.

Oh Please

I think somebody better have a look inside my moms head because she's being a little crazy. She said that yesterday was Friday the 13th and the calendar clearly said Thursday the 3rd.
First of all just look at my picture. She used on of those masks from Shadowhouse Creations and saved it before checking to make sure she did things right. OH BROTHER.
Then she was talking about work. Remember that donut fryer she got burned on? Well yesterday she decided it was time to clean it. She drained the oil out hooked up the pump, turned it on and NOTHING. Plan B was to forget pumping the oil back through the filter and just add all new. OOPS! Then she got lots of smoke and flames.
Time to call Mr. Store Manager again who in turn called Mr Owner.
She said it wasn't all bad though because Mr Owner got everything working ok and finished the stinky job of filtering the fryer. Too bad he didn't take over before mom started feeling like a grease ball. First thing she did when she came home was go right to the shower.
I sure hope her Friday is better than her Thursday.
I also hope she gets this post right today. She scheduled yesterdays and when she came home from work it was listed as a draft. That's why her post was later yesterday than it has been.

Deep fried

You would think as long as I have been doing my job, I would be more careful. Well yesterday morning I got my hand just a little too close to the grease in the donut fryer and caught the knuckles on my first two fingers. OUCH!! (those were not my exact words but I'll refrain from repeating them here)
So the store manager filled out and accident report. The owner walks in and the two of them are talking. Manager asks if I showed owner my hand. I show him my hand and the two of them talk about whether they think I need to have it looked at. (It's just a burn, I've had a ton of them over the years) Owner then proceeds to tease me about it. (he's like that and that's why we love him so much) I told him I was blaming it on the customer who wanted to know if we ever made deep fried lady fingers. He laughed, shook his head and walked out.

November

Not wanting to leave this space empty for today, I sat and contemplated what to blog about.
Obviously I am at a loss.
Vaguely I remember a time when I had more ideas than I knew what to do with.
Everyone goes through dry spells. I know that.
Maybe if I picked up my camera more and took more pictures it would spark my imagination.
Basically what I'm saying here is I've got nothing.
Either I wing it or I skip it and I am not going to skip it. When I skip it my brain starts to shut down.
Rats, I can't think of anything else.

The end

I disagree

I don't know. Maybe it's just me but in no way, shape or form....

...Do I consider this size to be fun.
Seriously here. You get two bites if you're lucky. This is barely enough to satisfy even the slightest chocolate craving.
Just who is the idiot that decided this was the size of fun?
Now this is my idea of a fun size candy bar
