It was bound to happen

I have lived in my house for over 25 years. My road has always had two stop signs one at each end with none in between. That is until a couple months ago. The put a stop sign up right at the corner by my house. I hate it being there. I ran it twice after it went up because I couldn't get used to it being there. I've seen other people run it too most likely for the same reason.

Well an accident was bound to happen sooner or later. One evening at the end of August I heard a loud bang and then Duke started barking like crazy. I went outside and sure enough there was a car sitting at the stop sign with the front end smashed in.

There was a pick up truck parked on the side of the road past the stop sign. I'm assuming that the truck was at the stop sign, possibly just pulling away when the car came up behind it and not paying attention slammed into the back of the truck.  I don't think anyone was hurt but for one little accident they sure had enough emergency vehicles there.

I sometimes wonder where the traffic people get their ideas from. All these years with no accidents and then they suddenly decide to shove up yet another sign and BANG....they really should think these things through a little more...didn't they put up signs to say that new traffic signalling was in place?? Glad no-one got hurt though.

our street has 4 of the 4 way stop signs, thank goodness not in front of our house. we have said many times, i would not want to live in a house with the stop sign right there. it makes it hard to get out and stops a line of traffic in front of the house.. so sorry you have to deal with this, and it is and will be a mess.

Good that no one got hurt, sometimes they put the stop signs in the most weird places

We only have a stop sign at the end of our road. That is too bad they put that sign right near your house. Hope there aren't any more wrecks. Take care.

They did something similar not far from our home. They put in a new stoplight and now that's where the accidents are happening...We have such poor Road planners in this world. So inefficient in how they spend our money.

You just don't fix what isn't broken. This is what happens when you do.

Have a terrific day. My best to Duke. :)

They should have put up another sign warning about the new stop sign ahead. No joke. For I have seen them up around other places.

Doesn't it make you wonder who conjures up these new road signs etc.
We are currently getting an enormous roundabout just up the road and like you I can see that there are going to be accidents.

You would think that they would set up flags and stuff to alert everyone to the new stop sign to get them used to it. Ugh.

Here in Chicago, we have red light cameras. If you go through a red light, it takes a photo of your car and license plate and a ticket for a $100 fine. You've got folks slamming on their brakes when the light turns yellow and it causes all sorts of wrecks. I think they cause more accidents than prevent them. BUT....the town/city/village they are in makes a LOT of dough because you can't fight the ticket.

hard to accept change, we have a rotating stop at my work

I guess that's what happens when they change things all of a sudden. I am just glad it was not YOU!!

Our town only has stop signs going onto the highway. Cross streets don't. It amazes me that crashes don't occur daily.

Hope no one was hurt! Sometimes injuries don't show up for a day or two.

Changes in road signs is always problematic...we hear that all the time at the insurance company I work at.
So glad that no one was hurt!

It's really hard to get used to a new stop. Looks rather nasty.

Oh my. Luckily no one seemed to be hurt. When a new stop sign gets put in it would probably be wise to have additional temporary signage so no one misses the stop.

Goodness...I hope this will not be a common occurrence for you.
