Some things take time

Some projects require more time than others. For some, however, the person creating the project need a good swift kick in the butt to get moving.
I bought some material about a year ago with intentions of making pillow covers for the man cave. The material was perfect. When I spotted this in Joann it had man cave written all over it.

Now when it comes to fabric, I have all kinds of visions of wonderful projects in my head. I buy the fabric with good intentions of making things. When I get the fabric home the problem begins. My fears kick in. I have this ridiculous fear of screwing up when I cut into the material. I would hate to waste perfectly good fabric by screwing it up so instead I let it sit there where it will be safe and unused, therefore retaining it's status of perfection.

I finally convinced myself that it was time to cut and although I don't have a picture of the finished pillows they are completed and they look pretty darn good.

I wish I could convince myself that the world will not come to an end if I cut fabric wrong and screw it up. It's a shame that all this great material just sits there because of a silly fear. I think I may spend the day cutting fabric. Some I may cut right and some maybe not but it's high time I use some of it.

Cutting fabric can be nerve wracking, even if you have measured it umpteen times. We watch Project Runway and they just gleefully rip into their fabric and tear it from one end to the other, seemingly without much thought.

I don't sew...but I do know what you mean...I have TONS of supplies for a variety of projects that have never even been started. At the time I purchased those items, I had great plans...but somehow life gets in the way and the projects just don't get started! One of these days...I am glad you were able to finish one of yours!! I sure wish I could sew!

You're not alone there Anne. I am like this with most of my projects, I have all the ideas but take ages to put them into practice for fear of them not working out right.
I think the cushion will be just fine and perfect for the cave.

as a person who has not sewn anything since i was 15 and ripped my school project dress into shreds in a fit of temper, i can not comment on your fears. but it does look darn good to me and it does scream MAN CAVE.... i had no idea you felt like that about cutting... if you want to see a mess, i will get scotty to beam me up there and show you what messy cutting looks like...

That is sure pretty material. Glad you were able to get those pillows done. Bet they are good looking and bet you didn't mess anything up. Take care and have a great Saturday.

ha, I know what you mean. I have this irrational fear when I cut into Vintage fabrics. As with all my sewing projects I think about all the steps before cutting - twice.

Well if I had the fabric I'm positive that I'd mess it up because I've not a clue about anything crafty. You did good and yes that screams man cave.

Have a terrific weekend. My best to Duke. ♥♥♥

Unless it is insanely expensive fabric - wield your scissors with gay abandon! You can always save the 'almost right' for a quilt!

I think those are PERFECT for his man cave - yet I do understand and have the same problem - your hesitancy to start!

Maybe I should follow your lead. I have some fabric that I bought several months ago to make a valance for the bay window in my dining room and I've been putting it off for the same reason. I suppose it's too lake to make the Christmas ones, but I can certainly make the everyday ones.

I feel that way about pretty scrapbook paper!

Hi Ann, it is so good to see you using your sewing machine. This fabric certainly shouts man-cave . . . I'll just bet that your hubby loves these pillows, or are they a Christmas present? Don't be afraid to cut and use your fabric. You are so talented, that even if you make a mistake, you have the ingenuity to get out of it with creativity and whimsy :)
Keep Smiling,
Your blogging sister, Connie :)

The more fabric you cut the more confident you will become - I personally cut so much fabric I don't even have to measure I can eye-ball it! ... now in saying that if I screw something up it hits the trash or I take one of my plastic quilting squares and start cutting into blocks for a one-day scrappy quilt.

Walk tall Ann and carry a sharp pair of scissors!

I do the same thing, so you have company in the fear department! I have the best of intentions, but fear holds me back from tackling many of my planned projects. (P.S. And I wasted a good yard or so of material just to make the Kindle rest earlier this year, by trial and error. There were lots of errors.)

You sound like me. I know that it still won't help, but you are so talented that it will turn out beautifully, and no one but you will know if it isn't perfect.... I do the same thing with paper... I collect all kinds of paper and sometimes I am afraid to use it because I want it to be perfect (ok, so time to follow my own advice, lol).
Hugs, Antonella :-)

I think you should have a fabric weekend Ann. Personally I say there is no wrong way to cut it...you just decided to adapt original plans a little!!

Whoa, I had no idea that the really bad things that happen in this world are due to you making the wrong cuts.

Perfect pattern for the man cave!
Does your machine do embroidery? I would like to be able to embroider things.
