Happy Halloween

Beware of things that go bump in the night. Or of silly humans who try and make you wear Halloween collars and pose for pictures

If you see a scary looking skeleton walking down the street don't be afraid.

It's just me, looking for some extra treats

Mom pulled out these old things that belonged to the last guy who lived here. Apparently he liked to wear stuff like this and get his picture taken. I'll admit that I don't mind wearing the clothes but this picture taking stuff is just not my style.

How I did it

Several of you wanted to know how I did the animated gif in yesterday's post. I won't go in to great detail but I'll give you a rough idea of what I did. I did mine in photoshop elements but there's similar methods in other programs I'm sure

I started with these three pictures

I made multiple copies of each cat picture. (I think it was 4 or 5 of each) I layered them on top of each other alternating between the two and then the picture of Gibbs was the top layer. In elements you select "save for web" which will bring up a box to choose several options and settings. I checked the animate box and left all the other default settings alone and then saved the file. You can change how fast it runs through the series of pictures.

Now for the final Halloween themed index card

Did you see that?

Spooky things can happen when it's almost Halloween.

The index card for the day

The other day Sharla mentioned that I would have to make Thanksgiving and Christmas cards soon. I've already done the first batch of Thanksgiving ones. Those will start next week.

Before, After and another card

Not much to say today so I'll let the pictures do most of the talking

The original picture

The edit

and today's index card. This one I did almost entirely on the computer and printed it out. Then I glued it to some scrapbook paper and then to the index card

A color explosion

The fall colors have been quite spectacular in the past week. It seems like they have been way more vibrant than in past years or maybe I've just been more in tune to the symphony of color they have been playing.

The other day when I was out and about I was in awe of what I was seeing. I had to take a detour down a side road so I could pull over from time to time to take a picture. I have a couple that I really liked and did some editing to but they don't really express the magnificent colors I was seeing.

These  however do

I'll wow you with my fancy schmancy editing skills in another post.

Winding down

Can you believe that we are in the last week of October already? This year sure is flying by.

There are only a few more Halloween themed index cards to go before I'll be switching over to Thanksgiving.

Now I certainly don't condone killing someone and sitting them out on your front porch but I couldn't help wondering about all the scarecrows I've seen sitting on porches over the years and this one just made me giggle.

Well wasn't that convenient

A week or so ago I stopped at a convenience store. There's a wooded lot next to it and I liked the looks of it so I snapped a quick picture with my phone.

Since it wasn't the best picture I knew if I played around with it a bit I could make it better. What surprised me was that once I started adjusting the shadow and highlight levels the most amazing thing appeared in the picture.

I hadn't noticed that witch standing there when I was at the store.

Maybe it was just my imagination though because when I looked again...she was gone

I think I'll be a good witch

Just for today I think I will be a good witch. There's no sense in putting all that effort in to being a bad witch when I'm happy about not having to work tomorrow.

What kind of witch will you be today?

Want more bacon?

Do you like bacon? I personally have always loved bacon. Love the taste, love the smell. I would rather have real bacon though, not something that is bacon flavored. I'm not so sure about these two products I spotted on the shelf at Wal-Mart the other day. What do you think, would you try these?

Today's index card. Now anyone that knows me knows that I do not drink, at all. You'll never find me sheet faced. :)

Back to the grind

I'm dragging my butt back to work today. Not necessarily because I'm tired but because I don't want to go. Ah but such is life. All good vacations and long weekends must come to an end. Why is it though that they go by so much faster than they used to?

Since it's back to work I'll be hanging a new index card on my table this morning. I thin this one shall go up today. I apologize in advance if you spend the day humming the theme song from The Adams Family. I changed the last line to say The Shurfine family since that's the name of the store I work at. You can't tell from the picture but the skeleton head is covered in white glitter.

Fall in my front yard

We are seeing more and more fall color every day and before you know it, it will all be gone for another year. My front yard is now covered in leaves and while I was sitting on my couch I snapped a picture through the window

and then I played with the picture.

Happy Monday everyone.

It's too soon, I'm not ready

Yesterday morning I headed out to do my weekly shopping trip. Any guesses on what the temperature was?

Yep, only 36 degrees. It was raining too so it made for such a pleasant morning. The kind of morning where staying in bed under the covers would have been a good idea.

Around 10:30 it was hailing. Not the best pictures but you get the idea.

About 4:30 it was snowing. As of this time (still Saturday night since I'm scheduling this) it's stopped snowing and nothing stuck to the ground but I did not like seeing all that white stuff flying around

Has anyone seen my scarf and gloves? Oh and I better dust the boots off too.

The old gray mare

She aint what she used to be. Or so I hear. You see since I've come to live with the old lady this is the way she's been but I do hear stories that back a few years she kind of had her wits about her. I have serious doubts about that though

I have a feeling this is going to be a boring kind of weekend, at  least for me. It's raining and the old humans don't take too well to playing in the rain. They also have something against muddy paw prints on the floor. I don't get it. I think they look awesome.
Have a wooftastic day wherever you are and whatever you do

OOPS Did it again

This is becoming a habit with me. Once again I totally forgot to schedule a post and didn't realize it until yesterday morning. By then it was too late to get one ready unless I wanted to be late for work. In all honesty, I really wouldn't have minded missing work altogether but I think the boss would have had a problem with it.

So today you get two again. Last time I took you to the graveyard and today we'll just stay right there because both of my index cards have tombstones again. I pretty much went with the same look on all of these .

This was yesterdays

and this one is today's

You won't be seeing another index card until next Tuesday because I have a three day weekend. I'm using up the last two vacation days. I'll be off for three days, then go to work for three and have next Friday off . Yeah me.

Alterations

Sometimes I just can't leave well enough alone. I got you these pretty fall flowers

And then I had to go and change it by adding an oil pastel filter to it

For the index card of the day we have to take a trip to the grave yard

Even that I couldn't leave alone. After I scanned the original I had to do some altering in photoshop elements and make it look more spooky

Just an index card today

I haven't got the ambition to give you anything else other than today's index card

Sunrise on Saturday

Saturday morning when I headed out to do my weekly shopping the sky a sight to behold. I had to pull over to take a picture

Whenever I see a sunrise or a sunset it reminds me of a song. Way back when I was in grade school we used to do music festivals every year. The theme one year was Fiddler on the Roof. While I don't remember all the lyrics to the one song we sang I do remember the part that says...

Sunrise, sunset
Sunrise, sunset
Swiftly fly the years
One season following another
Laden with happiness and tears.

A crafty moment and an index card

I had a wee bit of a crafty moment yesterday. I've seen these wine glass pumpkins all over the internet and after reading a tutorial on Debbiedoos for how she did hers I thought I would give it a try.
I never would have thought to paint this with what she used and I was amazed at how it ended up looking.

You start by applying a layer of gesso to the glass. When it's dry you paint over it with Rit Dye. I bought the liquid kind and poured a little in a plastic cup and then painted the glass. After that was dry I covered it with a layer of mod podge to seal it. Then to finish it of I wrapped jute twin around the stem of the glass and then tied on a little scrap of homespun fabric.

Now for today's index card

Then I did a little edit on it to give it a different look

So many things so little time

There are so many things I could do with my day off today and so few hours in a day. While I'm trying to decide what to do you can check out this not so good picture I took of the fall decorations on my table. There was just too much light coming in from the sliding glass door.

Adding a few textures helped it a bit I think

Enjoy your day

Just down the road

Hello my blogging peeps. How are you today? I am Gibbtastic. I must say I'm a bit concerned about what is living down the street from us. I do hope they are only visiting because I find them just a wee bit scary.

See for yourself. Crazy mom didn't take a very good picture but you get the idea. They don't look very friendly to me. What do you think? Would you trust them?

I told crazy mom that I would also show you her index card of the day so here it is. I hope she doesn't have to flip that switch or I might not get any treats when she gets home from work.

Hope everyone has a wooftastic day.

OOPS!! My bad

Not posting yesterday was totally unintentional. I didn't even realize that I never scheduled one until yesterday morning. I could have put one up real quick when I got home from work but I figured I'll just give you two index cards for the price of one today.

This one I hung on Wednesday. I made it, took a picture of it and looked at it hanging for several hours (about 6) before I realized that I spelled parking wrong. I can't believe I did that and never noticed.

This one will go up today. It doesn't show up too well in the picture but the spiders have little green glittery eyes.

I thought about it

Yesterday was pretty much a wasted day off. I thought about doing a whole lot of things but that's as far as I ever got. In the end I spent a whole lot of time sitting in front of my computer playing. Even Gibbs was less than energetic. He spent a whole lot of time sitting under my chair napping.

Today's index card

Then just for fun I tried to do a little edit on it. Even this didn't really enthuse me though
I have a few more cards that I took pictures of and then with the newest batch I decided to scan them instead. From now on I'll be scanning instead of photographing. They come out a whole lot better and I don't get the curled edges like I do when I take a picture of them. I may have to go back and scan all of them. Believe it or not I've done over 40 of these cards already

Something from the past

Today I'm going back in the past a bit and reposting something from 10/05/13. I couldn't come up with anything so I though I'll just go back to last year. Well apparently I didn't have anything to post on this date last year either so I had to go back two years. You get a special surprise since I went back that far though.

so here is the post from October 5, 2013

I guess I've been in a bit of a crocheting mood lately. Maybe it's the cooler weather that has me thinking about warm scarves and cozy blankets. Since it takes me forever to crochet a whole blanket scarves, cowls and other little projects satisfy my craving to create something quick.
After doing the infinity scarves I decided to try a pattern for a cowl. When the wind blows I like to have something extra warm around my neck to keep the chill off.
The pattern comes from Fiber Flux and is called Meringue Cowl

Instead of the yarn called for in the pattern I used what I had. I used two strands, one was Red Heart super saver and the other was a homespun yarn.
This picture cracks me up because obviously I was confused as to where the camera was. I don't know what the heck I was looking at.

While this cowl is perfect size for an adult, it should be noted that the size may not be suitable for everyone.
