Tubing

When you hear tubing you probably think of sliding down a snow covered hill on an inertube.  Well when I was out walking the other day I spotted a sign I had never noticed before and I did a little investigating.

This caught my eye

So just what is maple tubing?

I'm assuming that the white container is where it all runs to

You can see on this tree (sort of) the blue tubing is tapped in to the tree near the bottom.

This was the first time I had ever heard of this being done. I've always seen the buckets hanging from trees but never the tubing before.

Wow, and it's not even fall yet! You must live somewhere near Vermont? In the New England area. Although they do have maple trees that give the syrup around here, but I have never seen any.

Still lots of work cooking it down, but saves straining out a lot of bugs. Never saw anyone doing a fall harvest though

I've seen tubing here near my home, but it is usually not this time of year. This is done right before spring when the syrup flows the best. I'd think the trees would be tapped out by now. Unusual!! See you tomorrow morning, I'll email the specifics, Ann.

I didn't know about this either. Well, we don't have that kind of sap around here. We have lots of saps though.

Have a fabulous day. Big hug to you and tons of scritches to Gibbs. ♥♥♥

That bought back memories of seeing buckets hanging on the side of trees back in Northern Indiana and Southern Michigan when I was a little girl.

Hmm....that is a new one to me. I know of another blogger who collects the maple to make into syrup. Takes a TON to do it. Seems like a lot of work.

How interesting - thanks for sharing! Can't tell if that's a big batch of poison ivy growing around the collection area or not.
