I finally got a chance to go in there about two weeks ago...it was set up almost like a museum. Very cool. Most everything was out of my price range, or I have no use for-but I did find a book by Betty Smith (author of A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, which is one of my favorites) so I was happy. It is...Please let me clear up the mystery for you! It is a Domestic brand! The quilt covered up part of the name. If you had looked on the metal stand underneath the drawers, the name would have been spelled out as part of the metalwork design. The machine is located underneath the box. It doesn't slide down into the cabinet like the common old Singer sewing machines.

The Domestic company operated from the 1860s until it was bought out by the White Sewing Machine company in the 1920s. The cases were made of nice walnut wood, and the Victorian influence is evident in the design.

Sadly, old sewing machines don't sell for much these days, but this one might command a few more dollars than the common antique machines. Old Singers rarely sell at auctions over $100. Featherweights command $300-$400 on the retail market. I would guess that the Domestic models fall somewhere in-between.Donnahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05347598432040432610noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-708718912504052807.post-80439408181150213552012-08-30T09:03:36.756-04:002012-08-30T09:03:36.756-04:00it is beautiful, we had one a lot like it, or my g...it is beautiful, we had one a lot like it, or my grandmother did, but not the part that sits over the sewing machine. your phone worked great.MadSnapperhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08163140037276496519noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-708718912504052807.post-17678393358287595102012-08-30T08:59:30.762-04:002012-08-30T08:59:30.762-04:00My grandmother had one...but I've Never seen o...My grandmother had one...but I've Never seen one with a cover!
hughugsDonnahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00181520825012037531noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-708718912504052807.post-89132461627177451402012-08-30T08:56:46.016-04:002012-08-30T08:56:46.016-04:00VERY cool!
