Yes indeed it's time again for another Brenda Photo Challenge. This time the theme is "Weathered and worn". That's a theme that describes just about everything I own. I could very easily show you tons of pictures but I'll practice some constraint here. I'm only going to give you two today because, well, because I'm being lazy.
This first one I dug in the files for. When I heard the theme I knew I had to dig this one up. It was taken about a year ago. I was out driving with no particular destination in mind for the sole purpose of finding things to take pictures of. When I saw this I immediately had to pull over and take the picture.
I can just imagine what this must have looked like when it was first built. I loved the doors on it.
The next one I had to go no further than my weathered and worn deck. I would show you the whole deck but it really is a pitiful sight. Instead this is a picture of my umbrella stand.
I'm not sure if it's cast iron or something similar but it's really heavy. The rust just adds to it's character. I'm going with that because I don't feel like painting it.
Don't forget to head on over and check out the rest of the entries in the
Brenda Photo Challenge.
Oooh - I like the second one - I like the shapes and I like that the umbrella stand is almost the same color as the deck - cool!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos. I love old weathered buildings. And your umbrella stand is lovely and rust-ic. LOL. I love the design.
ReplyDeleteI like your take on the meme. Old buildings I find very fascinating and I really like the second shot. It's unusual and creative.
ReplyDeleteMy grandpa was a painter by trade and he once hung striped wallpaper in his basement bathroom for a challenge. He started at one lower corner of the room and he took the stripes diagonally up, over the ceiling and down to the other side of the tiny room. He did it just to see if he could. Somehow, I think whoever built that building did the same thing with those doors--just to see if he could. It is beautiful, isn't it?
ReplyDeleteWeathered and worn: that building looks how I feel after this week :)
ReplyDeleteI agree with you, the rust adds a weathered look and it even gives it a historical quality that enhances it's value and beauty.
Have a fun weekend!
The dilapidated house and the rustic umbrella stand are great entries!
ReplyDeleteIt's almost weekend. I hope you will be having a good one. I am off to work on Saturday and Sunday due to a change in shift schedule. That's my life! Phew!
Great pictures! I love distressed wood on old barns!
ReplyDeleteI love these photos! Those doors much have taken a long time to do way back when. And I love the design and angle of your umbrella stand. What a great photo!
ReplyDeleteI think there is a certain charm to old buildings. I love the shot of your umbrella stand!
ReplyDeleteI suppose from an "artistic" standpoint, the picture of your umbrella stand is much more appealing, but I dearly love that shot of that old shed. If possible, you might ask about getting some boards from it. For they would make fantastic frames, if they are not too rotten and crumbly.
ReplyDeleteNow about your umbrella stand. I would scrape it down, sand it and then paint. My wife would say that I ruined it. Great Pictures. Love em both.
ReplyDeleteGrace, I fell in love with it when I saw it in the store. I never even considered the fact that they do match so closely
ReplyDeleteLeeuna shouldn't that be rust-ICK..lol
poetic shutterbug, I'm always fascinated by old buildings or anything old for that matter
Lin, I like that. Your grandfather had a very creative mind and I'm betting that the bathroom looked very cool.
Tahtimbo I know the feeling :)
Junezach thanks. I worked both Saturday and Sunday for years. I always seemed to be missing out on something.
Bossy Betty there is something very appealing about the way an old barn looks
Beaded tail I bet it did take a good amount of time to put that together. I doubt there was any such thing as prefab back then
Duni there certainly is. And isn't it funny how we always want to take new things and make them look old :)
Fishhawk I loved the shot of the shed too. That's a good idea about the boards. I bet they would look great made into frames
Russ and your wife would be right...lol
That house still have a lot of character! Your umbrella stand photo reminds me that I should have taken a picture of mine...it's pretty beat, too!
ReplyDeleteGreat items!! LOVE the old building. People out here don't like to keep them if they are taking up "valuable" farm land. It's a real shame.
ReplyDeleteTwo great pictures Ann! Love the old structure and that is a really cool pic of your umbrella stand! It looks so artistic. Bet you didn't think that when you first bought it. Great shots. Think I'll join her next one. Looks like fun.
ReplyDeleteBoth of these are great! I love how straight the barn is standing even though it has "weathered" many years. And the design on the stand and coloring is wonderful.
ReplyDeleteAgree with you that the rust there only add character into it :)
ReplyDeleteLike your photos. The cottage looks really cute, I too wonder how it really looks like when it was new. Happy Saturday!
ReplyDeleteWeathered and Worn
You captured weathered and worn to a "tee". I love the cast iron second shot! Awesome! Thanks for sharing
ReplyDeleteLike your building, I enjoy walking around and thinking of all who had been there.Maybe part of a farm at one time.
ReplyDeleteGreat shots! My favorite is the weathered old building. I wonder what it's purpose was.
ReplyDeleteGreat examples of weathered and worn. The barn is so interesting with its weathered boards, I love old buildings like this.
ReplyDeleteJeanette this umbrella stand actually looks pretty good compared to the one it replaced.
ReplyDeleteaudrey that is a shame, there's so much character in an old building. Although I suppose they do get to a point where they are beyond even having character
Sheri no I sure didn't think of that. Actually at the time I don't think I was really all that fascinated with my camera...lol
Cindra it is amazing isn't it. Structurally it must have been built very well. Too bad the exterior wasn't better maintained
Vanilla seven good, I would hate to have to admit the lazyness factor
Manang I always try and imagine when I see buildings like that.
June thank you very much.
out on the prairie I don't remember what was on the rest of the property, I was so busy being fascinated by this.
Brenda me too, I suppose it could have been a tool shed or maybe even a small garage. who knows
squirrel queen me too, i'm fascinated by them.
oh I love the first picture Ann...it's so quaint and conjures up so many stories to my mind...definitely fits the topic!!
ReplyDeleteKeep that umbrella stand the way it is! It has character and grace! Love how you captured the lighting on the photo. And that old garage sure could tell tales, don't you think?
ReplyDeleteHow about putting up an umbrella in front of the old house? I bet it would be a relaxing place to stay.
ReplyDeleteWhat a find you have there my friend. I just love them both but that old building is just awesome. You can feel the aura from it. Well done. Have a wonderful weekend :)
ReplyDeleteThat house is great...it still has a certain charm!!!
ReplyDeleteNice umbrella stand, with its twirly design.
The rusty umbrella stand has proven to withstand all weather. And I can say that the house has its charm.
ReplyDeleteBoth images are wonderful! I wouldn't paint the umbrella stand either, it looks great.
ReplyDeleteallotments4you, I love that one too. If only those walls could talk, I'm sure they would have some wonderful stories to tell
ReplyDeleteDonna Well if that's an order about the umbrella stand, I'm fully prepared to carry it out :) I bet the garage has some wonderful tales to tell
Al that would be a great place to sit back and relax wouldn't it
Thom when I first saw that building I knew that I had to have a picture of it. It drew me in instantly
Rnsane I think just about anything that is aged has a charm to it. I'm always captivated.
Ebie before that stand I had one of those cheap plastic ones that you fill with water. It didn't last nearly as long as this one has. It didn't age as gracefully either
Nita Jo I have no intentions of painting it although my husband may have other thoughts on that.
I have way too many weathered and worn things around here too! Great pics. You're right, it's nice to think how pretty that little structure must have been when it was first built. I bet someone was very proud of it. Rust is in, so you're right in style! I've read that people are actually putting on rusted metal roofing and our neighbor has a beautiful rusted arbor that they bought new that way.
ReplyDeleteI agree ~ that umbrella stand is perfect as is! And I love the old shed. Great photos!
ReplyDeleteHope you have a happy and healthy week!
Good going with the challenge. And I have to tell you how much I enjoyed the newest post with your pupster in his raft lol.
ReplyDeleteSorry to be late! We went out of town!
ReplyDeleteThese are Great!! Love the old barn! Cool shot!
That stand is beautiful!!
hughugs
Ann how about that, for once I'm in style without even trying to be. Even though the rust looks nice it just doesn't seem right buying something brand new that way :)
ReplyDeleteWR Thank you
Jeanne thanks. The pupster is quite a character. he provides loads of entertainment
Wonderful pictures! I love the old building. Its a shame that its just wasting away.
ReplyDeleteI love old buildings! Even though they sometimes give me the 'creeps'. I can see the beauty in this one.
ReplyDeletebutterfly gardener it is a shame isn't it. I wonder why it was let go like that
ReplyDeleteCinnamon girl it's amazing how something so trashy looking can be beautiful if you look beyond the wear and tear
these are wonderful photos...we have loads of old wood and rusted metal around our house too :)
ReplyDeletedancingmatilda, thank you. as much as I like the look of old weathered things why is it that when they are in and around my house it doesn't create the same feeling...lol
