Sitting story

I've made you wait long enough. Today I tell you the sitting story.
Thursday while I was at work my son calls me and the conversation goes something like this:
Brad: Mom, can you do me a favor?
Me: What?
Brad: Can you puppy sit?
Me: Huh?
Brad: I have to go to Meadville, can you puppy sit?
Me: What are you talking about?
Brad: I got a puppy
Me: Are you crazy?

Well of course he's crazy. He's young, he just got his own place, he's working 12 hour days and now he has a puppy. So being the sucker wonderful mother that I am, I agreed. Just for good measure he comes to see me at work and asks me if I want to go see his puppy. It just happens to be in the truck.  I guess he knows I'm a sucker for puppies.

OK so now puppy enters stage left and Duke is going nuts. Not like wanting to kill the poor thing nuts, more of a "what's this I wanna see I wanna see, let me see" kind of nuts. Now when Duke gets like this he's like a little rain cloud and where's there's rain clouds you're bound to see puddles.

Oh, I'm sorry, did you want to see what the puppy looks like? OK

There is no official name yet. First he thought he liked Calie, then he thought Daisy, now he's thinking Lola. Personally I was liking Daisy because then I was going to make my post title Daisy Duke time.

So anyway, after sufficiently sniffing ever square inch of this poor little pup Duke has determined that it is a little girl puppy. He doesn't seem to care that she is only 5 weeks old. This led to about 2 hours of "Duke, stop that" and "Duke get your nose out of her butt" Oh let me tell you he was making me crazy.

I thought a little outside time would help. Little girl puppy enjoyed it, Duke was still all crazed and me? I was on my last nerve.
That's it back inside. Good little girl puppy found herself a place to lay down and take a nap. Aww, isn't she cute?

Duke did not get very far away. He finally started leaving her alone but he layed in front of her panting like it was  the dog days of summer.

Duke looking to see if I'm still keeping an eye on him. "YES, Duke, I'm watching you."

I was hoping that the first picture would have been clearer. Do you have any idea how hard it is to hold one dog off with one hand, try and keep a puppy where a puppy doesn't want to stay and focus and shoot with the other hand? Let me tell ya, it isn't easy.

  4. Too funnny, although it sounds like you didn't think it was very funny. Duke is madly in love. Guess he will be depressed when the puppy goes home if it ever does. I hate to say this, but that darn puppy is soooooo cute. Couldn't it stay there with Duke for a little while. Love this story. Good luck puppy.

  7. What an adorable puppy! She's just as cute as can be! She's a little thing too! Total cuteness overload at your house! If I recall, Duke isn't neutered so it seems like you will have your hands full when she comes to visit since he's got a case of puppy love too!

  8. Oh, my goodness...what a fun story - that puppy is absolutely the sweetest - I can almost smell the puppy breath! I love puppy breath! I can see how worked up Duke is - I think Gizzy would have reacted the same way (less the puddles, he, he)

I actually thought of getting Gizzy a teeny, tiny female puppy to keep him company since I'm soooooo boring and he sleeps all day... but I'm afraid to get one and then it not working out because Gizzy is pretty selfish and not used to sharing.

I hope it will work out for your son and his dog because your son works all those hours and dogs hate being alone so long, especially when they are small.

That's how I ended up with Gizzy. His owner loved him so much and felt bad for him because he was hardly ever home and he knew I'd have the time for him. Well, at least mom's the new puppy-sitter with Duke's help LOL

Cute photos, Ann! (they were worth the effort!)

  13. Not that we're putting it to a vote here, but I'm thinking Daisy (definitely ;o) She is absolutely adorable!
As to the six handed statement, I can tell you it's not any better with horses (do you know how many shots of ginormous nostrils and nose hairs I have?)
    MMMMPH camera lens; *snuffle*snuffle*snuffle*snort* :o)

  15. if my vote counts, i vote Daisy, Lola is cute, but this puppy looks like she will be Drivin Ms Daisy to me. a wonderful story and i enjoyed every moment of it. adorable pup and she looks like she might just be a LOT bigger than our man Duke. you did a good job with all the photos, and even better with the words. clap clap clap, can you hear me clapping and I am standing demanding an encore. more puppy please.
BTW dogs are SUPPOSED to sniff other dogs butts, that is the truth.

  20. Amanda, he told me he talked to you. I didn't think of that when he first said Daisy but I get it

Laura lol aww, yeah, let her see :)

sharkbytes puppies have a way of doing that for us don't they

marg funny now but annoying then.

out on the prairie not one puddle from puppy just from duke

donna lol, glad it was only almost

beaded tail she sure is. You recall correctly, I've been meaning to have him neutered though.

doris oh yeah, the puppy breath really gets ya. Well him and his room mate don't have the same schedule so she won't be home alone too much. And then of course she can always come visit me :)

    grace, yep

roschelle, oh yeah, puppy breath is sweet :)

philippa she really caught his attention that's for sure. He doesn't get the chance to see many other animals

fishhawk I think poor little Daisy was a little overwhelmed and maybe still wondering where her mama went to

jen at least duke is less to hold back than a horse. :)

russ um, I think I'll stick with just my regular job...lol

sandra I prefer daisy too but I think he's going with Lola, where he came up with that one I have no idea. I know they are supposed to do the butt sniff thing but it got really annoying...lol

anny isn't she though. I think the puppy sitting would be easier if she was a little more Duke's size or bigger

donna, I would love to but don't think I could put up with Duke going nuts full time...lol

    bossy betty lol same here

    lynn she sure is

    catherine yep, totally
