When it rains it snows

That's right, we had it all yesterday. It started off by raining and then it turned to snow. At least it didn't stick around but it sure was cold out there.
(not today's snow, picture just inserted for effect)

Started my day off yesterday getting to work and finding an order on my table with a note. The customer ordered a rye bread. The girl who wrote the note said "We didn't know which one was rye so I got out two different one". Well what they got me out was one wheat bread and one natural grain bread. If this all sounds odd, all the breads and rolls that I bake are from frozen dough. If a customer calls at night to order for the next day they have to pull it from the freezer for me. Well since they didn't get out the right bread I had to pull out my mammoth cart and begin searching for the rye. I couldn't believe my luck when it was in the first box I looked in.

The next bit of fun I had was with one of my ovens. I have two ovens and one of them has been having issues. It works when it wants. Parts had been ordered and the guy who does the work had finally installed them and put everything back together. So I turn the oven on in the morning to preheat it. About an hour and a half later my bread is ready to go in. I open the door, load the oven, close the door and....nothing. The oven won't work and the other one is already full.

I can hardly wait to see what fun awaits me today.

  1. So did the customer get the bread, what happened? I love reading stories about the inside workings of a bakery!!

  2. We have had some flurries in the area, but nothing like what you've got. If you don't mind, I would rather our weather not be so similar to yours during the winter months.

  8. next time drive to another store and buy a loaf of Rye and then sell it to her. that is advice from your non-baker friend in Florida. i do so hope your day today is better than your bad bread day was yesterday. not a good season for the oven to quit.

  12. I almost fell out of my chair when I saw that picture of the snow! I was thining THAT was what you got yesterday. Then again, I guess it's only a matter of time :)

Everyone seems to be having some challenges at work these days. Must be the after Thanksgiving funk. Even the ovens are taking part this year!

  13. I'm forever grateful that I don't live in snow country. I don't like winter one bit, but the snow? No way.

Well I hope you get that oven fixed. It's going to be tough to do your orders if you can't have an oven to bake them in. Just saying.

Have a terrific day Ann. My best to Duke. :)

  15. Maybe the new parts were put in the other oven ! Yeah, so not a good way to start the day - I'm guessing you are north of me - so let's keep the "s" stuff there...

  16. That sure doesn't sound like fun. What a pain. Hope it got fixed. Our Mom is just dandy. The doctor visit went really well. She always gets so darn nervous. Take care. Have a good evening.

  17. Well, at least on days like that you don't have far to look for some donuts, chocolate or potato chips! Or maybe it's only me who looks for those things when stressed. :)

  19. A bakery without an oven is like a vet clinic without phones. That's what happened to us after a big wind storm this week. It was AWESOME! Don't tell Doc I said that!

And we don't like to say the "S" word. I'd rather have rain!

  20. I LOVE Sandra's advice...buy a rye bread! Too funny! I would tell them if they expect you to bake bread without an oven, you need a big pay raise! LOL

I sure hope you have a Fantastic Friday!
