It never ceases to amaze me the amount of stuff some people think I can fit on one little cake. Here is the cake I did yesterday at work
Now take this cake, cut it in half and still fit everything there on it. She originally asked for a 1/4 sheet cake and asked for the rose in each corner with all that writing. I told her I didn't think I could fit all the writing on that size cake. I asked her if I couldn't fit it all on, what would she prefer be left off. Then she asked me what about if you just put JL instead of Janet. I wanted to say oh sure lady, three less letters will make all the difference in how much room there is. In the end she opted for a larger cake rather than cut out any of the wording.
I cannot write as pretty as this with pen and paper! Let alone with a cake writing tool. I always love it when you show your cakes!
ReplyDeleteThe writing has always been easy for me it was the flowers and borders that I had a hard time with when I first started doing these.
DeleteMe too...I really enjoy your cake decorating talent!
ReplyDeleteGlad you like them.
Deleteshe could have said H B everyone or first letter of name only. glad she gave you a bigger space to work on. people never cease to amaze me... I am with Ginny, my writing is horrible. they would think a doctor wrote on the cake.
ReplyDeleteI bet you do get some crazy requests...and I dont mean just the impossible ones.
ReplyDeletethinking along the same lines...as Rose
DeleteWell, you did another good cake decorating job. Amazing what people will ask you to do.
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend ~ FlowerLady
Let's see - a birthday party in honor of 4 people and she wanted a 1/4 sheet? Even if the 4 honorees were the only people at the party a 1/4 sheet would have been barely enough! (Pretty cake!)
ReplyDeleteDepending on how big you cut the pieces you could feed 12 with a 1/4 sheet. Of course if you have people who want a big piece of cake you aren't going to get that many.
DeleteI was annoyed with myself when I wrote the names. I almost didn't have enough room to fit them all on one line. I should have started further over to the left.
That's a lot of names. Goodness. You got them all on and that's the good part.
ReplyDeleteHave a fabulous day off, Ann. Big hug to you and lots of scritches to Gibbs. ♥♥♥
I was annoyed with myself that I started the names so far over on the left and almost didn't have enough room to fit them all on one line
DeleteYou did a great job! People just don't think sometimes.
ReplyDeleteYour cakes always look so beautiful, Ann... and this one is no different. But all that on a 1/4 sheet? I don't think so! Sheesh! I'm glad the woman who ordered the cake got "hit with a smart stick" at the last minute and changed her mind on the size. *haha* Love, Andrea xoxo
ReplyDeleteI run into this with calligraphy....
ReplyDeleteI count the letters and spaces, divide in half and make a small mark for beginning and ending of the names. Might help to center and to see if all that will fit.
