Believe it or not

Believe it or not 1
The other day I grabbed the mail out of the mailbox and found this letter in there.
It was addressed to the estate of Wade C Thompson and the end of it was completely missing.

Here's another picture with it up against the same size envelope so you can see how much is actually missing. I wasn't able to read the letter because part of it is cut off. It appeared to be an attempt to collect a debt from his estate. I believe it's from per capita taxes that he owed from before we were married. I had gotten a letter regarding that and called and was told to send a copy of the death certificate.

A while back I had gotten rid of the lamps and end table in my living room. I hated the lamps and the tables were in bad shape. For lighting I temporarily moved a floor lamp into the one corner. Sunday while I was cleaning I picked the lamp up to move it and the entire bottom fell out of it.

The contents of the bag sitting next to the lamp. This is what was in the base to weight it down. It totally crumbled and fell right out.

  1. Good grief! Wonder what happened to the letter and who opened it? And the lamp!!! Did you go shopping for a new one? Floor or table?

    1. My guess is that it got stuck in one of their machines. No new lamp. For now I'll just use the light in my ceiling fan

  2. You wonder what caused the lamp to erode so badly? And that letter...I'd think there is some bad mojo in that ... But, how can you prove someone broke a federal law, tampering with mail?

    1. I'm betting it got stuck in one of the post offices sorting machines.

  4. Where has the letter been I wonder and what a shock. My sister in law was getting letters addressed to her deceased husband for ages after, quite distressing.

  5. I hope that mail does not upset you...but it would be hard for me not to be. But I don't think I would be as upset as I used to would have been. And what a thing to have happened with the lamp.

  6. I am thinking the post office machinery ripped that envelope. I say toss it and forget it. will the lamp stand up? with the weight gone? very odd. so now we wait for odd incident 3 to show up... right? I can't believe how expensive lamps are now. I used to could buy a cheap lamp at Walmart, now they cost a fortune, or a fortune to me... no 10.00 lamps left, not even in thrift stores.. even the ugly lamps in thrift stores are not cheap..... hope you can still use this one.

  7. I'm with Sandra--I think the letter was caught in the machines at the post office. And it is most likely an old letter, having sat in the bottom of the machine for a bit until someone cleared it out. You might as well have it checked out while you are still cleaning up things with Wade's death. No use having it come back later, right?

See if you can get a new lamp at the thrift store. Nothing is really made well anymore. It's maddening.

    1. That's what I figured too.
For now I'm just using the light in my ceiling fan. I'm in no hurry to replace the lamp

  8. I totally see a recycle lamp in the works....haha. I have had to cut myself off though when it comes to chairs and lamps. I was picking them up here and there and I just have more then I need with thoughts of getting to them to redo them. They mount up faster then I can produce! haha

    1. I wouldn't know what to do with the lamp so it went out in the trash.

  9. I'm glad they aren't going after you for that debt. You don't need that. Weird on the letter though.

Yikes on the lamp. That's weird too.

Have a fabulous day, Ann. Big hug to you and tons of scritches to Gibbs. ♥♥♥

  10. I'm guessing the letter got messed up in hte processing. We received something like that once, but the post office put it in another envelop and apologized. I thought that was decent of them.
