Smoke Gets In Your Eyes

On one of my days off I was letting the fresh air in with all the doors and windows open. After a while I started smelling smoke. I wondered who was burning. It kept getting stronger. I went upstairs did a couple things and then walked into the kitchen. That's when I realized what I was smelling.

I had put whole potatoes in a pan to boil, set the timer on my phone and went about my business. I totally forgot the potatoes were on the stove and the timer on my phone never went off. The potatoes boiled completely dry and they were transformed into charcoal briquettes. Needless to say I did not have potatoes for dinner that night. I'm just lucky I didn't burn the house down.

  1. So, why did your phone not work? Good thing you smelled it!! Hey, I went to Michael's today, and this week all fall things are 40% off. Including those cute little animals!! I got the two in the canoe. Nearly passed out from standing so long to decide!! They have a bunch of new fall things in, too; all 40% off. I also got a cute set of ceramic measuring cups. Each one has a different fall item on it.

  2. Good Grief Batman!! (my new saying...I'm trying to not let loose explicatives...lolol)
Thank God for your nose! The timer on my phone sometimes does the same thing! I finally realized that when my earbuds are still connected to my IPhone, you can't hear Anything! Check your Bluetooth in settings! If your earbuds are still connected but you're not listening to any podcast, etc., shut it off. They will reconnect when you use them again.
I have missed text...phone calls, etc. Everything goes through your earphones.
    hugs

  3. so happy you smelled the smoke. this has disaster written all over it. i have not done potatoes, but twice boiled all the water out of eggs. stinky! scary! I don't use the phone for cooking, i only do reminders on phone for Beaus Meds, 3 times a day. i use a timer that sticks on the side of the fridge. works great, but both times with the eggs, i put the minutes on the timer but DID NOT PUSH START. now I stay in the kitchen if i am boiling anything.

  5. Sounds like PAM has rubbed off on you! lol...I am not a fan of open concept between the kitchen and the living room but the advantage to it, is I would prob remember I had things cooking! lol....I am bad about walking out of the kitchen and FORGETTING! Yep, your taters look......lol.....good.

  8. I've done that with eggs too many times. Now I just stay in the kitchen until they are done. Sorry about that.

  13. I've had a tray of rhubarb ready to cook for several days but kept forgetting. When I eventually put the oven on I forget again and ended up with a singed syrupy gunge. Not totally unpleasant though! Unlike those potatoes!
