We've had a couple of rain showers since the peonies bloomed and they are now done for. They did last longer than usual though with the help of the cage around them to keep them standing straight.
In the pictures there are still plenty of petals on the flowers but now they are totally gone.
What a shame. A couple of weeks ago there was a beautiful lilac bush not far from where I live and they were gorgeous. Then we had a couple of hot and humid days and they shriveled and died.
ReplyDeleteAww, but at least you have photos! My roses lost all petals due to rain too.
ReplyDeleteagree with at least you have photos. it seems the prettier the flowers, the faster they die. weeds last much longer. trust me I know about weeds. they are the only flowers we have unlike what we used to have.
ReplyDeleteSome flowers seem to last forever, while others bloom briefly, like the day lilies.
ReplyDeleteI wish peonies would last longer! The cage is a good idea.
ReplyDeleteThis is the way my roses looked after we had so much rain. Sad to see them like that
ReplyDeleteA short but glorious burst of beauty!
ReplyDeleteThey did put on a most beautiful show for you....and love living in your yard
ReplyDeleteHappy Friday to you and Mr. Gibbs
Cecilia
The day the peonies drop their blossoms ranks right up there with a bad peach as one of life's biggest disappointments.
ReplyDeleteYour peonies remain beautiful even with the rain. We had a doozy of a storm yesterday and it is still raining here.
ReplyDeleteThey do get battered easily. But beautiful while they're flourishing.
ReplyDeleteThey are pretty but don't last long enough. :)
ReplyDeleteThat's sad they don't last longer, but they are beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThey are beautiful while they last. Using the cage was a good idea, apparently. Nice! :)
ReplyDeleteI love that the cage helped them last longer. Most excellent.
ReplyDeleteThe truth is everything on earth has a life. Glad you enjoyed them when you did!
ReplyDeleteOurs have been long gone! It is the odd things that show the difference in our weather. Seems like some make it seem like we are very close to the same time on things but then I the peonies have been gone about a month.
