Garage sale

Wow, here it is July already and we're starting the second half of the year. Time sure has flown by.

June 21st was the Albion area yard sales. I've wanted to have one for a long time but it was just too much effort when I was working full time. This year, since I was off, I decided I would participate. I gathered things that I wanted to get rid of. The closer I got to the sale I was getting nervous that it would be a total flop. I had nightmares about not selling a single thing.

Two nights before I put everything in the living room so all I had to do Saturday morning was drag it out the front door. There was more than this because I also still had stuff down in the basement.

Friday night I didn't sleep and I was up at 3:30 Saturday morning. By 5:30 I was dragging things out to the front yard to get things set up. I think I was ready in about an hour or so then it was sit around and wait for 8:00 when the yard sales were supposed to start.

Everything was across my sidewalk and I had more stuff set up under the tree. I got my first customer of the day and I made a whole dollar. Things picked up and got pretty busy for a while. I had lots of people coming through and lots of people buying. I was willing to drop prices if people asked. By the end of the day I had made almost $190. I threw some stuff in the garbage and put a bunch of stuff at the curb with a big free sign

Within minutes of putting this stuff out there I had people going through it. The next morning this was what I was down to.

By garbage day all that was left was the cardboard box and 3 baskets.

The day after the sale, I got a text message from a lady who used to be a good customer at the store I worked at. She wanted to know if I still had baseball cards. I told her I did and she asked if she could bring her 12 year old son over to look at the. When she came she asked how much I wanted for all of them. I  said $25. (there were a lot but I wanted to get rid of them) She said that wasn't enough and had her son hand me $50. I tried to give money back but they wouldn't take it. I was more than thrilled with how well this all went. Will I do it again next year? I highly doubt it.

I'm so glad you weren't working so you could participate. What a great idea it is!

Wow, you were very successful, Ann! Congratulations! I've done this on a smaller scale. I'm always surprised what gets grabbed quickly and what doesn't.

I love the left overs at garbage day, and now you have freed up a lot of room. hope you don't have to foray under the house again where the spider webs are.
Congrats on a huge success. that is the first time I saw this side of your house, I like the way it covers the sidewalk.. it helps a lot when there are more than just you having a sale, brings in a lot more foot traffic..

What a successful day. It's worrying, wondering whether anyone will be interested in your stuff, but such a relief when they are.

Glad you were able to get some things out and make some money doing it. I've had one yard sale and it was a lot of work for little money so I said never again.

Sounds like a great day of decluttering your house and getting paid to do so. Yay on the sells. The hardest part for me any time we have a garage sale is the cleaning up and getting rid of items that did not sell.

Yay!!! Good fruits from all your labor, Ann. I'm so happy for you! Garage sales are a lot of work but if you price your stuff right, you not only make a few bucks (in your case, LOTS of bucks!) but you get to declutter too. I bet you'll do it again next year!! Love, Andrea xoxo

I love a garage sale. I rarely ever bought anything but they are so fun to tour...I wonder if any of those baseball cards are noteworthy.

Sweet lady to pay over. I bet her grandson was thrilled to get those cards. Great job on the sale, extra money in the pocket is always nice. That is what I miss about working the venue, the mad money. Amber and I was going to have a yard sale. I pulled things together and stacked them in the guest room where they are still stacked. We decided not to do a sale. Personally, I like the money, but I hate the getting it together, and I like to price each piece and not quote a price when asked, setting it up, dealing with everyone and then getting rid of whatever when done....I have not had a sale in years cause every time I had one, I said, "NEVER again. too much work.

WOW Ann that had to be a big job gathering all that then getting it out BUT wow it was worth it. Can't be too much left for next year so happy you had a great success.

I remember doing garage sales years ago. They are a lot of work but it was kind of fun meeting all the people, getting rid of stuff, and --if you were lucky--making a little money. You had a good day. I imagine that boy was more than happy with the baseball cards. :)

A successful yard sale. Good for you. Extra cash is a good thing.

Have a fabulous day and week, Ann. Big hug to you and lots of scritches to Gibbs. ♥

It sounds like a success but still a lot of work. You were lucky not to have to get stuck with a lot of stuff. My main reason for not wanting to have a garage sale is the collecting and storing until the day of the sale. I've started just donating to a thrift shop once I have a large bag. When I was younger, I found the garage sales fun.. to much work for me now.

Yay ... you did a fantastic job and got some well deserved money. I love that the woman gave you what those cards were really worth. Well done.
Its sure a lot of work though and we will probably not do another one ourselves either..

Good job with your sale! And to top it off you got rid of things you no longer needed - and what a nice lady to be so kind. She showed her son a good lesson.

Made some good cabbage, got rid of stuff and a kid now has cards. Not too shabby.

That was a pretty good take for stuff you no longer wanted. Got rid of it without having to take to donation site plus made the money. A double win.
