The week before I started my new job I had 2 days scheduled to have lunch with friends. I cancelled the one day because it was with the girl I used to work with who was the deli manager. I had told her about the new job but said that I didn't want to let them know yet until everything had gone through. Fast forward to the day I ran into an old co-worker to find out that they had contacted all the old employees to ask if they were going back. I never got a text. I texted the deli manager and she said she was so excited that I found something that she had told them. I was furious. I cancelled lunch because I knew I wouldn't have been able to be nice. Funny thing was she didn't even question it although my text was brief and to the point. Then I never responded to the text she sent saying she hoped I had a good first day.
The other lunch was with 2 girls I grew up with. We get together a couple times a year. We met at a place at the gateway to Presque Isle State Park. They serve burgers and hot dogs plus I got chicken tenders. From what I hear they have great milkshakes but I didn't get one. I only got one picture
When we left we talked about getting together again and how it would have to be on a weekend or a bank holiday for me. Both said that the husband/boyfriend would probably want to come along if it was a weekend. Then they joked that they would have to find a guy for me to even things out.
How frustrating! And she had NO business doing that!!! But maybe it is a sign that this new job is where you are supposed to be? That may be a good way to think of it. I sure don't blame you for cancelling on her!! This place looks awesome, even the Simpsons eat there!

ReplyDeleteI suppose the deli manager was pleased for you that you had found a job, but even so she should not have said anything to other people, knowing that you wanted it kept quiet. I'm not surprised you were furious.
ReplyDeleteYou have every right to be furious at her, what a rat. People like that really tick me off. That looks like a fun place to have a lunch with old friends. I'll check out their website.

Cancelling lunch would have been a given for me, too! You specifically told her not to tell and she did. And that was important...your livelihood, you know! Some people!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you got together with your other friends...but the hinting you needed to get a guy to make it a couple's visit in the future...would have annoyed me, too. Sorry.
I just hope the new job is getting a little easier every day. Your new challenge to conquer! You will be good at it...and appreciate the hours, too...once you have the majority of it down. :)

Is your store opening back up again, Ann? I think that's rotten what that deli manager did & I would have cancelled out on her too. Pooey, I wish tho that you could have gotten your old job back, if that is indeed the case. Being able to walk to work has its advantages but....working with backstabbing people does not! ReplyDeleteYes, I would have been very miffed she did that, to put it mildly. I am so sorry that happened to you. Things have a way of catching up with them. I have known people who have pulled such things many times and it has eventually caught up with them. That one will be on Santa’s naughty list in December.
