There is an old guy who visits the garbage can outside our office every day. He will dig through looking for food. The one manager that comes from out of town said that she'll put the leftovers from her lunch on the top of the garbage can for him to get.
I dug through my cupboards looking for things I could leave him. The only think I came up with was a big bag of animal crackers that I bought for Presley only to find out she didn't like them. I filled a ziplock bag with them and left them on the top of the garbage can when I got to work. While I was sitting there a young guy walked past, saw the baggie, picked it up, checked it out and then walked off with them. The next day I took another baggie full and waited a little longer before I put them out.
The old man came by that day and he took my baggie of animal crackers and some french fries that the other girl left for him.
I'm going to make a point of finding things that I can leave him. Maybe even fill a bag once a week with food that won't spoil.
You touch my heart. I know how it feels to be so hungry and have nothing to eat. A long time ago, when we had no money to buy food, I used to survive on leftovers. Those were really rough times, and even now we can still see many people suffering from starvation. Feeding people in need is a great act of kindness, and I truly appreciate it.
ReplyDeleteAwww...and maybe some bottled water...You are so kind Miz Ann...

I've seen this happening so very often on our trips to Dallas...there is an area were a lot of people seek the big city and live on the streets. Saddens me, but yet I know that many of them purposefully make the choice of living on the streets. This is such a special thing that you are doing Ann...
ReplyDeleteThat is so sad, thank you. ❤️
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful thing to do. Bless you all for feeding him.
ReplyDeleteHave a fabulous day and week, Ann. Big hug to you and lots of scritches to Gibbs. ♥
That's so kind of you and your co-worker. Finding food is difficult when you have little to no money.
ReplyDeleteANN I WISH YOU COULD HEAR MY VOICE OF HAPPY GRATITUDE TO YOU AND YOUR CO WORKERS.
ReplyDeleteHUGS CECILIA
That is so sad. I'm glad youj are doing something to help him out.
ReplyDeleteI wish I were there to leave him things. I would love to that and would... I have a heart for the homeless and technically I was homeless for 6 weeks when I had to run away and slept on my aunts sofa. if not for here, I might need those cookies
ReplyDeleteWhen I first moved up here in 1999 I lived in Moorhead, MN and there was a guy I used to see looking through our trash for food. I left him food, too. He disappeared after a few months that summer. I often wonder what happened to him.
ReplyDeleteAs a teenager I was homeless and lived on the streets in Anoka, MN the summer of 1969. When you have lived without a bed or shower or food with everything you own in a shoulder bag you always remember the kindness of strangers.
That is really nice of you.
ReplyDeleteHow nice of you to leave the food for him. God bless you.
ReplyDeleteI love this - I think that is so kind of you and your coworker. God bless you.
