I'm a trash collector

I haven't switched my career path, but I am a trash collector (refuse removal technician if you want to be politically correct). No, trash collection is just a little something I've taken up in the past few weeks. A couple posts back I said that I was bringing home empty frosting containers from work. Here's one of the cream cheese frosting containers that took a little ride home with me the other day. I even left a note hanging on my bakery table for the girls to save these if they empty any on my days off.

And this is what I'm doing with them.

These 2 aren't actually finished yet but I couldn't wait to show you. For the brown and green one I used scrapbook paper and the other one I printed out some digital scrapbook stuff on parchment paper. Then I used mod podge to stick them to the containers. When it dried I brushed a layer or two or three of mod podge all over the whole thing.

The brown/green one will have a wood furniture knob attached to the top of the lid and the other one will have a fabric yo-yo flower and fabric leaves attached to the top. I have 5 more of these containers sitting here ready for me to decorate so I'm off to go see what else I can do with one.

Hope everyone is enjoying the weekend.

  1. that's a great project you have going on there. what do you use them for? or do you create them simply for decoration?

  8. You have done a great job and these will make wonderful gifts. Was it hard to do the lids? The photo looks like you did a super job with the lids and they appear to be a bit rounded.

Marie I plan on using them to put home made goodies in like candy or cookies or something

beaded tail, I didn't come up with it on my own I think I saw the idea somewhere else once.

sheri, glad to hear someone else saves stuff like this besides me.

    Campbell jane, yep me too

Audrey if you do anything with yours i hope you post pics on your blog, would love to see

    june, try telling DH that...lol

digivickie I've been away from the crafy thing too long and i've been having so much fun getting back into it

jody the lids were pretty easy, just a round piece of paper for the top slightly larger than the lid, clip the edges hanging over so they laid over the edge and down the side a little smoother and then a narrow strip for the side.

  18. Wow thanks for all the great compliments everyone.
Buggys they aren't real big, about 3 3/4" high and about 3 1/2" wide. This is just a container that frosting comes in like Duncan Hines or whatever.

  19. Hi Ann - I am so envious of people who are creative enough to make something out an otherwise drab piece of garbage. Another man's garbage is another man's treasure!
