The garden bunny's storry

Today it is the garden bunny's turn to tell his side of the story. Not really so much about his dealings with Duke but more of a little of his history.

He was born about a dozen years ago right here at my house. And like any rabbit, if there is one there's bound to be more. I couldn't even tell you how many of these guys I ended up making. It seemed like it was a couple weeks that I had a pot on my stove filled with tea and tube socks. Yes, you read that right. He was made from tea dyed tube socks. The body is a 2 liter pop bottle and the head is a Styrofoam ball. Small wood pieces were used for his facial features. Eyebrows were drawn on with a marker and his cheeks and inside his ears were painted. Finished off with a few raffia whiskers and a bow around his neck.
He also carries with him his trusty garden bucket made from an old mushroom can with a wire handle. The bucket holds his purchased garden tools and a couple plastic carrots. I made these at Easter time but he usually sits out for most of the summer since he's not really an Easter bunny.

Since Easter is approaching, and over the weekend I drug out the Easter decorations, I'll be posting some Easter cuteness for the next few days.

  16. What an adorable bunny and project. I like this bunny. With his tiny tools, he looks to be a helper in the garden rather than one that devours all the plants like my bunnies do. Do you think he can be trained to be a scare-bunny to discourage the ones mowing down my garden?

I would leave this handsome guy out all summer too!

  24. beaded tail he's been with me for a while now. one of the things that has survived over the years...lol

sandee he was pretty easy to make but after so many I really got sick of doing them

sharkbytes I think I found him in a magazine or something. No selling just for fun

    jean why thank you

catherine I know, it's sure sneaking up on us isn't it

ann, some things turn out good some things not so much...lol

tahtimbo :) that's how I ended up making so many of them years ago. I gave a bunch away as gifts then someone asked if I would make a bunch that she could raffle off at some club she belonged to

betsy I don't even remember how many I actually did but it was a lot

kloggers I was really pleased with him when I first did it

ginny they were all the same except for maybe a different fabric for the bow. Several were gifts for friends and family and then I sold some to someone who wanted to raffle them off

Grace and I have fun doing it too

fishhawk I haven't figured that one out yet

    pat thanks

philippa me too, don't think my family was thrilled with the pot of socks on the stove though...lol

anny not my idea though, I think I found the directions for him in a magazine somewhere

allotments4you that would be cute but I don't think he would handle the weather too well

marg I've always enjoyed making stuff and some of it even comes out pretty good...lol

ldh I wonder if he could be trained :) He would become very useful then wouldn't he...lol

karen I wish I had a hobby lobby near me. Do they have some like this one there?

sandra why thank you very much. I liked him the minute i saw him and knew I had to have one

out on the prairie yes, he's pretty good about not chewing anything up but his toys

bossy betty I go to craft shows and inspect things I like to try and figure out how they made them

Russ why thanks, to both of you

tanyia SERIOUSLY well this was made a lot of years ago so I hope the coolness hasn't worn off

donna actually Duke pretty much just ignores him. Those pictures worked out well though to make up that story :)

tammy thanks, I wish I could come up with the ideas like this on my own :)

  26. I LOVE this one, it's always the warm colors that get me...I'm not the pastel, bunny kind a gal.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Lin thanks. I won't say a word to Em. I remember what it was like when Amanda was still living at home and she always wanted me to drag all the junk out.

Miawa thanks. Ah yes, the warm colors, I love them.
