for my desk

I've had a very ugly pencil/pen holder on my desk for quite a while and I've been wanting to replace it.  I've seen some very pretty ones on Creative Carmelina that she crochets and slips over an empty can. I decided I would see if I could figure something similar out and this is what I ended up with

I don't have a picture of the old one but believe me this looks much nicer

  4. It looks great! I like to take old cans and cover them with either fabric or paper. I can change them out with a different look when I get tired of it. You can't beat the price--out of the recycling bin at home!

  6. I LIKE this!!!!! Very much. Now, I think I must try the same. I have a wire meshy looking pencil holder, and this one you've made looks soooooo much better.

Ps....love Duke I do. Of course you know that already...and his 'yoga' post below this one is precious. And he leaves no PAWS for our delighting in his charm.

  7. bet you could sell these, even just the cover without the can in it. the cover could fit on all kinds of things. you are sooooo talented. and guess what? i have two of those twisty lamps. and wish i did not. when we bought them i did not even think about how hard it is to dust them. yours is much cleaner than ours.

  10. I used to use a mug, but now I have this black mesh pencil holder. Not much to look at but I think I should have held on to the old mug.

  12. Very nice indeed. I'm so not crafty that I would have just bought one. Sigh.

Have a terrific day. My best to Duke. :)

  14. So nice! The pattern reminds me of covers for wood coathangers that my grandmother once taught me how to make. (But I don't think I remember how now!)

  16. That's a great idea! And it looks so pretty too. I'll have to share this with my daughter. She loves to crochet. But I'm sure hers will be purple.

  18. I like it! You bet me to it. I saved a lot of small potato chip cans and I was thinking of alter them using crochet stitches. Seeing how lovely your turn out I better get to it.

  20. Great idea Ann! Too bad I don't crochet. :( But I do like to cover cans with pretty paper.

I'm glad you're enjoying the vase!

  21. What a good idea! However, I have a large collection of special mugs with broken handles that have become pencil holders.
