I'm so confused

I was taught that one pound is 16 oz. So then explain to me why this pound cake only weighs 10 ounces. Shouldn't it be a 10-ounce cake?

    I happen to know how pound cake got it's name. Seems the recipe long ago called for a pound each of sugar and flour each. This doesn't make sense to me, but I have read it more than once. I bet you know this already.

    so if the ingredinets are a pound of sugar and a pound of flour, the cake should weigh 2 lbs not 10 oze or 16 oz. he he he

    Don’t forget the pound of butter and pound of eggs to go with the pound of flour and pound of sugar. Not very healthy!
