Dreaming

I'm dreaming of soft sandy beaches.

But in reality, all I've got is a bowl of cinnamon sugar to roll my donuts in.

What's better

What's better than having your daughter stop by for a visit?

Having her bring dinner with her. Homemade beef stew.

Now don't get me wrong, I enjoy having her there but I feel the need to mention that she laid a bit of a guilt trip on me. She pointed out that it's been quite some time since she's been mentioned on the blog and that she was feeling a bit unhappy about that.

Oh well, she fed me dinner so I guess I can't complain too much.

A good day off

On Easter Sunday the weather was absolutely beautiful. When I got home from work it was so nice that I didn't want to sit in the house so I took my vehicle to the back yard, vacuumed it out and then washed it.
Monday was cold, wet and very windy. Since it was my day off though what better way to spend it than making a crafty mess

I wish I could learn to put things back as I use them but the concept is lost on me. I did quite well and accomplished quite a bit. It's almost the end of the month so you'll be seeing how I did real soon.

I love comments

I  ♥ comments. Do you know how many times I tried to do that little heart in my title? Well it was only twice but every time I tried to do the heart it published.

But honestly, I do. I really do love comments. You make me happy when you leave me a comment. Sometimes you inspire me to do things and other times you hand me a blog post on a proverbial platter.

Saturday my post entitled Example received the following comment from Sandra
soooooooo did you get a piece of candy??? what would happen if someone not in the deli/meat ROOMS ate a piece? the spelling is now becoming par for the course any more.. I wonder if they even teach spelling now.. could it be the person who made the sign was suing auto correct??? do they have auto correct on plastic cups? I love the post

And then I got this comment from Anni
PS....check out and post about this!!!! Sandra's comment. about SUING auto-correct? Should that be USING!!! Awwwwwwww, come on I dare you to post about it. Sandra would love it, I'm sure

So Sandra, just in case you don't love it, I'm blaming Anni, she dared me :)

Now I don't know about the rest of you but I sort of have a love hate relationship with auto correct. It is kind of nice but then there are times that I send something and realize a word has been auto corrected to something that makes absolutely no sense.  How did we ever survive all those years having to know how to actually spell words?

Before I hop on down the bunny trail to head to work today I wanted to wish you all a very Happy Easter

May you feel the hope of new beginnings, love and happiness during this joyful Easter holiday.

Example

When I write about work I try to limit it to the things I do to make my day more fun or bearable. I prefer to avoid talking about what other people say or do because putting it out there on the internet for all the world to see just isn't right. However what I saw on Friday was just too good not to share.

First lets start with a crude map I made of the back end of our store. This will help you see where everyone is located. As you may know (or not if you are newer here) I'm the baker so I'm in the combined area for the deli and bakery

This was taken standing at my work table looking over in to the deli side.

What is that on the table with the yellow note attached to it?

It reads "Help your selfs Happy Easter Deli E Meat rooms"
Now I'm not the brightest bulb in the box sometimes but I'm assuming that that should be selves not selfs and the E meant &. Not only does the spelling crack me up but that they felt the need to specify that the candy in the container was for the deli and meat room.

I think I'm going to bake some cupcakes and pass them out to EVERYONE

It gets me through the day

Most days at work I am totally bored. Yes, I am busy but it's all very routine. I've been doing it all for so long that I really don't need to think much about what I'm doing.

To help me through the day I keep adding things to my work table. You saw my new friend the donkey and here is the rest of what amuses me

Across the top of the table you'll see my purple dinosaur and the broken egg sitting next to it contains a chasmosaurus. He hatched just before Christmas. Next to them is the acrylic frame that I hang my index cards on. I haven't changed that one in quite a while. I need to make some new ones.

Taped to that shelf are two new signs. I giggled when I wrote the drama one. The notice about not being responsible for something that someone else told you I said came after I got annoyed at hearing someone had misquoted me YET AGAIN.

Down below that there is a little green lizard. You've seen him before. You may remember the story about him being missing and found in the freezer.

Oh and the white chocolate chips sitting there in the container. Just so you know I wasn't eating those. They were given to my department because the bag was broken open. I haven't touched them because I do NOT like white chocolate.

Which do you prefer, white chocolate, milk chocolate or dark chocolate?

What would you think...

...if I told you that Tuesday I got home from work, took my shower and went to bed at 3:30?  I woke up several times but pretty much stayed in bed until the alarm went off at 4:20 Wednesday morning. Pretty pitiful don't you think? Would it sound even more pathetic if I told you that most nights I'm in my pajamas by 5 pm?

I had to go dig into pictures I've already used before for something to post today.

I've attempted to plant my dreams but since I don't have a green thumb none of them ever seem to grow.

Owl try and do better with posting. I've been a bit sporadic lately

Have I told you that I've really been wanting to get a cat? I'm starting to get obsessive about it. I've been online looking at the local shelters to see what they've got.

My new partner

Yesterday I logged on to google and saw this

Google gave me some birthday goodies and no calories.

Saturday when I was at Walmart I couldn't resist this little cutie. He'll be my new partner at work. I made a little sign for him too
Sometimes it takes so little to amuse me.

Leader of the pack

Yesterday morning I had to head to the DMV to get my picture taken for my new license. They opened at 8:30 and I wanted to get there early.

When I arrived there were maybe 3 other cars already there. I had about 15 minutes to kill before they opened. I sat and read my email and watched as other people showed up. Apparently the people who got out of the cars and walked to the door only to discover it locked hadn't noticed everyone else still sitting in their vehicles. They returned to their cars to wait.

About 5 minutes before they were scheduled to open I got out of the car and walked to the door to wait. I didn't want to be stuck behind the 20 or so people who were now waiting in the parking lot. I no sooner got to the door than everyone else started getting out and joining me. I felt like such a leader.

They promptly opened the doors at 8:30 and at 8:07 I was back in my car and on my way.
I don't even care that the picture on my my new license is worse than the old one.

Unpredictable

This time of year the weather is so unpredictable. It can be sunny and 60 one day and cloudy and 20 the next. It's that time when I get impatient to see color and feel the warmth of the sun on my face.
The last couple of days has been fairly nice with temperatures reaching 60 but we've also had periods of rain. Rumor has it that next week we could be seeing snow.

I do love to see the blue sky and when it's full of big puffy clouds I love it even more.

This was taken with my cell phone through the windshield of my car so it's not so great. It looked better in real life

I decided to give the blue little boost

Still not a good picture but check out all that green too. It's so nice to see something besides brown

Boring

I will be the first to admit that I have a very boring life. This isn't something new. My life has always been boring. I take full blame since I lack a sense of adventure. I've always preferred things to be very scheduled. I've mellowed a bit but in the past, throwing me a curve ball sent me in to a tizzy.

Anyway, I guess I'm just feeling like I need to spice things up.

Of course I'm sure I won't but I feel like I need to.

If you could change one thing in your life, what would it be?

Fun

I normally wait until the end of the month to show you what I've done for my monthly craft project but since I'm low on blog fodder I'm going to show you a little something I made on Monday.

I think I had mentioned that I bought some wood shapes to make either magnets or ornaments. Well even though I had several on a whim I purchased a few bird shaped ones last Saturday. I got busy with paint, glue and tissue paper and when I was done it looked like this...

I painted the whole thing green except for the wing. Then I covered the entire piece with a green tissue paper. When that was dry I covered the wing with patterned tissue paper. Then I dabbed on some inks here and there and a few swipes of extreme glitter paint. The words were printed out and glued on. I used gold stickles for the beak and finished it off with a gem glued on for an eye. Oh yeah and the white lines for the tail feathers were drawn on with a white out correction pen.

I really liked the way this one turned out. I have two more of the same shape and have another green one started. I'll have to look through my tissue paper stash and see what other colors I might be able to do. I just may have to go back to Wal-Mart and get a few more of these guys. Now I just need to think of some other short sayings that I can put on them. Suggestions?

Put me in coach

I don't know if I'm really ready to play yet but I do believe it's time I get my head back in the game and give it a try. After all, there's only so much pity one can show for oneself before it's starts to become pathetic.

I've slowed way down on the index cards and I haven't changed the one hanging at work for several days. I think it's about time I put up a new one.

I did the background for this one with crayons. I started by using two different colors and I thought after coloring the background I could use my heat tool to sort of blend the two colors together. That didn't work so well BUT while the card was still warm I ran the crayons back over it and it melted them for a deeper shade. Then I ran a comb through the hot wax for a bit of texture. Only problem I found was that it was more difficult to glue on the words and picture. It didn't want to stay stuck down too well.

Monday I spent the majority of the day working on some of my mixed media projects for my March craft. I didn't get a ton done but at least something was accomplished. I tend to over think things too much instead of just going with the flow and letting it happen. That always slows me down.

Please accept my apologies

I've been in a bit of a slump and my head is just not in to blogging right now. Physically I'm just fine but my head's not in the game. I'll be back when.....well I guess when I can be.

In case you were wondering

When I showed you my clothespin barrels the other day did you wonder what I did with the metal spring part after I took the clothespins apart? Yeah I knew  you did. I bet it's been bothering you ever since too.
Well let it bother you no more. I happened to see an idea on Pinterest that led me to a clothespin spring star ornament tutorial.

They don't have a hanger on them yet but these are my stars. I found that some of them move around more than others and will lose their shape easily. I dabbed a little glue where the springs connect to help them hold their shape.

Indecision

Believe it or not I've already chosen my craft project for the month of March. I've decided to do some mixed media pieces on wood. It's sort of like my index cards just creating on wood instead of paper.
I purchased some small wood shapes and I already had some wood plaques that I'll be using as well.

Now comes the part about indecision. This is a 3" square wood shape. In addition to the painting and assorted doo dada I glued on I'll also be adding a word. I'm going to use one word inspirations for these. I have the word Focus printed out and ready to attach to this one.

The problem I'm having is I can't decide if I want to put a magnet on the back of it or if I want to drill a hole at the top and make it an ornament. Of course I probably should have drilled the hole before I did all the painting but I don't always do things the easy way

If it was you, which would you prefer?

Is it spring yet

Hurry up Spring. I'm getting desperate. This picture is from a year or so ago. The flower was made from my footprints in the snow and then I colored it in photoshop.

I'm getting tired of snow and gray skies. I need sunshine and flowers

This just in

Did I tell you that I went out for lunch the other day? I ordered a salad and found a button in it. When I called the waitress over to complain I was told not to worry, it was part of the dressing.

Catching up with cards

I guess I must have been in a slump with the index cards because I ran out and didn't have a new one to hang up on Sunday.

Monday I sat down and made a few more. Yesterday I forgot to post one because I had my craft project to show you.  Today you get two.

This was the card that I put up yesterday
And this one will go up today
I'm thinking that the second one may need to hang for a few days or quite possibly get a permanent spot in my work area.

The big reveal

First of all, Happy March. Did it come in like a lamb or lion where you are?

Now, yesterday I showed you this...

I started by taking strips of book page and gluing them on the top edge of the pringles can then I lined the inside of the can with some scrapbook paper.

Next I took apart those clothespins and glued the outside flat part against the outside of the can. I wrapped some twine around the can in all of the grooves in the clothespins and at the very top. Lastly I made a lid.

Now my pringles can is a barrel

The lid was a round wood disc. I glued on a round piece of scrapbook paper to match the lining then glued on a wood knob. To keep the lid from sliding off, on the inside I glued on a canning jar ring. The ring fit perfectly inside the pringles can.

Total was 6 completed barrels.  I might have made more but again it took me half the month to decide what I was going to make

I didn't like the blue paper on the lids as much as I did the other color but it did look nice inside the can
