Days off

This week I have a total of 3 days off. Yesterday, today and Saturday. I should be happy about that and yet I'm not.
Days off are lonely and boring. I don't go anywhere, see or talk to anyone or do anything. If it wasn't for work and my blog friends I would probably go totally crazy.

Cake

Remember the anchor drawings I showed you the other day? Well here's the cake that the anchor went on. They asked for red and black colors they wanted it to say congratulations Marcus, class of 2020, and the picture of the anchor
it came out okay but I think it looks a little plain. The people who picked it up for quite pleased with it though so all is good

in the good old summertime

I just had to share this picture that my son's fiance posted on her Facebook page. Her photographer neighbor took it. If this doesn't say summer I don't know what does.

I would say Presley likes her watermelon.

What's your headline?

I saw this on Facebook and really liked it. Read it and then tell me what your headline will be for today. I think mine will be woman enjoys day off.

A cake order

A customer came in the store yesterday to order a cake for Sunday. I asked her what she would like on it and she said that it was for a graduation and a going into the Navy celebration. She asked me if I could put an anchor on it. I told her that I can draw something that will resemble an anchor but that I was no artist. I quickly drew an anchor on the back of the order form and showed it to her. I laughed and said something like this?
She said well maybe if you put a line across the top I drew a line and said like this?
She said yes that will work. I told her that I promised it would look better on the cake than it did on the paper. After she left I Googled anchor pictures and then did a quick drawing to use as a reference when I do the cake on Sunday
I'll be sure to take a picture on Sunday when I'm finished with the cake.

Real quick

From yesterdays comments.

Blogger Sandee said...
You are sweet enough to melt so I'm glad you didn't. That's a lot of wet right there. We're in our third heatwave. Thursday and Friday will be triple digits.

So I want you to keep in mind that sugar doesn't melt, it clumps.

Rain on me

We've had rain the last couple days. On Monday it made for good napping. I got a little drippy leaving work yesterday but the good news is I didn't melt

Happy news in the mail

Yesterday I got this in the mail.

This is Wade's youngest daughter. I didn't even realize she was pregnant. She already has two boys so I can imagine she's thrilled that this one is a girl.

The printing on this was so small that I couldn't read it even with my glasses. Luckily I had  a magnifying glass to figure out what it said. Under the date it says "Not being able to gather together might be hard. But a gift or card can be mailed or delivered from wherever you are."

short but sweet

In the last week or so I would say that my greatest accomplishment has been that I have not injured anyone. Whether it's because of how crazy everything has been or some other reason people are just getting on my nerves

my Saurday

Not only did I have to work yesterday on my normal day off but it was a crazy kind of day. In the deli Bakery area there was just me and one other person. But we got it done as always. I had a graduation cake to do yesterday. It's the one and only one I've done this year for graduation. Usually they are either a half sheet cake or a full sheet cake but this one was a small as it gets just a quarter sheet. Another sign of the virus changing things

who was that masked man?

I got home from work yesterday and just after I walked in my front door I heard a noise and turned around. I saw a scooter going down the road with a guy wearing a yellow cap and a red cape. Why is it that I never have my camera for moments like that.
this is a photo from the internet not the actual Caped Crusader that I saw going down the road

not my ordinary Tuesday

Normally on a Tuesday I would be working. This week I'm working on Saturday to cover for the girl who works my days off. Since I'm working Saturday I had yesterday off. I decided that that would be a good day to finally take care of my license which expired at the end of March. I had already renewed my license online and had received my camera card but by that time the driver's license centers were closed down because of the virus.

It was a beautiful day for a drive
The amazing thing was when I got there shortly before 9:00 there was only one other person there who was almost done. I was out of there within 10 minutes. While I was waiting for my license to be finished I snuck a picture of the two women who were working

There was one other guy who came in while I was waiting. He went over and got his picture taken and the lady asked if that was the picture he wanted. He said yes unless she had anything that could make him look like Brad Pitt. I laughed under my mask but the two women there didn't seem to have much of a sense of humor.

Trying something new

Thanks to Sandra I I'm doing today's post from my telephone. She told me about the Blogger app that she downloaded for her phone. So, quick and easy, this is my post for today. Oh and look, there's even pictures .

I can see clearly now

I got a voicemail the other day saying that my glasses were ready. I live in Erie county but the city of Erie is about a 1/2 hour drive so I had to wait till yesterday to go pick them up. After that I stopped at Walmart for dog food and then came home. I spent the rest of the day laying on the couch watching tv because I was totally exhausted. I can't  believe just doing that wore me out.
Any way, here are the new glasses

borrowing

My daughter likes to send me pictures to use for my blog. As long asnshesngoing to give it I may as well use it.
Her and her friend went to check out some local cemeteries.

Not sure exactly what these are but they look like a baby cradle to me

Rambling

Sunday I got a call at work from a girl who used to work at the store. She wanted to tell me that she mowed my lawn for me but I would have to do the trim. What an awesome surprise and totally out of the blue. Then she told me her grandson said he would mow once a week for $20. I'll have to think about that one since I'm a bit on the cheap side. I hate payig for something I'm perfectly capable of doing myself.

I did a test with blogger yesterday morning. First I wrote a post in the new blogger format. Even early in the morning it was rather slow doing anything. Then I switched back to the old format and tried again. It worked perfectly with no lag time at all. At least I know it's not my internet connection or computer that is causing the issue. I'll stay with the old format until I'm forced to switch.

I took the camera out in the yard the other day. I don't have many flowers in my yard since I'm a horrible gardener but I do have a few that are tolerant of my neglect.

I have quite a few of these Japanes iris and right now they are looking so pretty.

The lupine is also blooming. I won't show you the rest of the area where these are growing because it is totally over taken by weeds and looks horrible. I need a gardener to come take care of my yard work.

My favorite day of the month

Yesterday was Sunday and I had to work, plus it was a 10 hour day. That was all ok though because once I got home I had dinner to make for the monthly family dinner.
Sure it's great having my son and daughter come to visit but the real treat is getting to see Presley.

There's always play time too.

Judgement

I am judging the new blogger format to be a weed. I suppose the problem could be with my computer or my internet connection but I didn't have any problems until I switched over to the new format. It is very slow to do anything, I frequently get "page unresponsive" windows and it takes several tries before I can enlarge my pictures. The whole experience is not a pleasant one. OK, whine over.

Work related

The first thing is a sad farewell to the boss. When I first started at Shurfine, although his son was mainly running the store, Dick was still the owner. Up until a couple years ago he was still coming in to work a few days a week and taking care of the produce department. After he got cancer he stepped back and finally retired, turned everything over to his son, but he still visited the store frequently. Tuesday he passed away at the age of 83. He will be missed by everyone who knew him.

The second work related thing is a cake I did yesterday. For years there was a woman who ordered birthday cakes for her son. She had 3 sons that I know of but only ever ordered a cake for the one. She died several years ago and now he orders his own birthday cake. I found out that he absolutely LOVES our cakes and didn't want to celebrate his birthdays without one.

Birthdays.

I should have posted yesterday since it was my sons birthday but since I do my posts the night before and Wednesdays are my long days that didn't work out. But any way, yesterday was his 33rd birthday. Time sure does fly. Next week will be Amanda's birthday.  Here's the two of them together back in 1987. Amanda is 4 years older than Brad.

Just stuff

So I finally switched over to the new blogger platform. I suppose I'll get used to it but for now I'm not real crazy about it.

Speaking of crazy, I was reading my email and then went to delete my sent, spam and empty the trash files. When I went to the spam folder it had tons of emails that I had sent. Some of you I respond to comments through mail and I don't know if those responses actually went out or not. If you never got a response from me and you usually do that's why.

My daughter Amanda sent me a link to something she said I could use for blog material. So here are a few of them.

All the better to see you with my dear

So I finally had my appointment with the eye doctor yesterday. They left me a voicemail on Friday reminding me of my appointment and I thought I heard 9:15 on the voicemail. I thought that can't be right. I wrote the appointment down as 1:15. I gave them a call to make sure and sure enough my appointment was for 9:15. I was glad because I prefer an earlier appointment.

So get there, call them to let them know you are there and they come out to get you when they are ready for you. Other than checking my eyes real quick it was pretty much the exact some prescription I had before. I think he may have tweeked it a little but not much. $444 later I was out of there.

After that I had to make a stop at Walmart for a couple things. I saw this truck in the parking lot and thought it was rather unique.

I'm going to take a guess and say this was probably a pretty expensive truck especially with those wheels.
