chilling

Not much to say about my day off yesterday. I pretty much spent the day chilling. And that was in more ways than one. It was a gloomy day and a bit on the chilly side so most of my day was spent lounging on the couch under a blanket watching TV. it was a totally relaxing and maybe just a bit  boring.
It's hard to believe that today is the last day of April already. I can't believe we're already going to be moving into the fifth month of the year.

just a quick one

Just a real quick post today to let you know that I didn't hear anything from the doctors yesterday. I called and asked and the girl that I talked to said they didn't get anything yet and they would call me when they did.

TGIF

I am so happy it's Friday and I have tomorrow off. Work is just kicking my butt lately. It's been crazy with orders and I'm not finding time to get all my regular work done.

For this Saturday we have an order for 25 dozen donuts. Next Wednesday there is a standing order for 3 dozen and another order for 18 dozen donuts. The following Thursday I have an order for 36 dozen donuts. I'm kind of stressing out about getting them all done and trying to figure out how early I need to get there to have them done on time.

A few of you mentioned yesterday about the boss's wife only selling the property. I agree, it doesn't make sense to me. Not much I can do about it either way though so I'm going to try and not worry until I have to.

The doctors appointment yesterday didn't really give me any answers. I've been feeling drained and achy plus I've had some concerns about a few incidents I've had over the past year with pain in my arm and chest. She did an EKG in the office yesterday and said that looked fine but said that's just 30 seconds out of a 24 hour day. She did some blood work to check for other things. She said the things I described point to heart issues but she wants to rule out other things before she sends me to a cardiologist. I should know today how the blood work comes back. If everything is good there then she'll do a few more tests on Monday.

Random stuff

So as of yesterday, none of the comments you leave are coming to my email again. So again, if I normally respond to your comment in email and I haven't, that's why. I just get  used to doing things a certain way and suddenly blogger throws things into a tailspin. I know not everyone likes getting email but I happen to love it. I'm old school and will never give up my email.

We got some news at work the other day. Apparently boss's wife has decided to sell the property. She's not selling the business, just the property. She showed up at the store last Saturday with a realtor. That was the first that boss's son (aka new boss) heard about it. Right now things are business as usual but it puts a lot of uncertainty out there. I honestly don't think it's going to be bought any time soon. The building needs some work. But if it does sell, either the new owner could just charge rent or they could kick us out altogether. There are times when I think it would be nice to just stay home for a bit. Being without health insurance is a big concern for me though. I don't know that I could afford to pay for it on my own and I'm at that age where going without it isn't the smartest idea.

Speaking of health insurance, I have a doctors appointment after work today. I've been feeling drained and achy plus have a couple concerns that I need to finally have checked out. I'm a huge procrastinator when it comes to making appointments.

Yesterday Liz asked how I did the writing on the plate. It's vinyl that I cut on my Cricut Machine.

Other than that, it's pretty much been same old same old. Be back tomorrow.

Back in the bathroom

A quick look in my bathroom from the hallway.

Some things that were in there before I did put back in. This Shelf with the handmade sign, jar of cotton balls and fake succulents is back on the wall over my towel bar. I'm thinking about painting the shelf though.

I had a few things sitting  on the toilet tank and those are also back in place. Just under the cabinet there's a couple spots on the wall where for some reason the paint kind of bubbled and peeled off. I need to fix those.

The big difference is the wall next to my sink. Yesterday I showed you what was hanging there before. I also showed you the items that I purchased at Dollar Tree. Here is what I did with them.

Let's back up a bit and see what it looks like on the wall.

I'm liking the look of this compared to what I had there before. Now to keep my eye out for other things I can add.

A fresh new look

Before I painted my bathroom I had this hanging on the wall next to my sink.

I've been debating on whether or not to put this back up. This was something that I made and I did like it there but I was kind of ready for something different.

I happened to stop at Dollar Tree to pick up some seeds to put in my April showers card so that I could mail it out. While I was there I was looking at the nautical themed items they had. I don't want a nautical theme in my bathroom however I did like some of the pieces that I saw. This is what I purchased
Next I set out to find a saying that I could put on the charger plate. Come back tomorrow to see exactly what I did

Live and learn.

Or maybe the title should be don't stop playing. Either way, I'm going to show you what happened when I got it all together.

First I made some backgrounds using different colored inks. Then I stamped butterflies on them. This time I left the smallest butterfly off. You can't tell in the pictures but I also blended in some metallic ink and it gave it a nice shimmer.

Next was adding a stamped sentiment to the front of the card. When I took this picture I still hadn't added the sentiment on the 4th card.

Each background I created was mounted on a colored piece of cardstock. Inside, using the same colored cardstock I added a pop up butterfly.

When things go wrong...

... as they sometimes will, then you need to learn from the mistake. Enjoy the process and start all over again.

I was stamping these butterflies and all was going well until I added the bodies. The two larger butterflies were fine but the body on the small one slipped and I didn't notice it. OOPS!!!

I was working on this die cut butterfly and I glued it together wrong. I was watching video instructions and they were going too fast and made it hard to see where things were getting glued. OOPS!!!

I'm really not showing these to point out my mistakes. Or rather my artistic flair. I'm showing them because it's always nice to know that mistakes happen to the best of us. They aren't the end of the world.

Tomorrow I will show you what happened when I got things right.

4/22/2006

Today would have been Wade and my anniversary. It was just a mere 17 years ago that we said "I do". We only had 12 years together. For better or worse, I wouldn't trade those 12 years for anything.

the weather roller coaster

The weather here is just up and down. We had those really nice days, and then we dropped down to the 40s. Yesterday it was back up to 70 and today the forecast is for somewhere in the 60s. Come Sunday it's supposed to drop down to the 40s again. Enough is enough already. On the bright side everything is greening up around here.
I took pictures of these trees when I left the bank yesterday. They're always so pretty this time of year full of blossoms.

The yard is full of cheery yellow dandelions.

I guess I just need to be patient. Warmer days are ahead.

Another new card

I found a free cut file online somewhere for this card. I can't remember what the original one was supposed to say but I changed it up to make it into a birthday card. Here's the front of the card with the matching envelope that I made

Here's a closer look at the front.

Now for the inside.

The center is a gift bag that holds the flowers and has space to also hold a gift card if you want to include one

Monday

Yesterday was quite a bit colder than it has been recently.

It was a good day to stay inside and pretty much do nothing. I had a few things on my to-do list and only managed to do one. That was packing up all of the Easter decorations.

They are still sitting right there though. I never did get the tote put away.

This, that, and the other thing

The weather here has been beautiful. I came home Friday and the lawn guys were here mowing. My lawn looks so nice now

The trees are full of lovely green buds. Seeing all this green just makes me happy.

The Forsythia filled with yellow blossoms also cheers me up.

Saturday was also a beautiful day. I pulled out the umbrella and set it up on my table.

spring has finally sprung

First it was the daffodils the other day and then this past Wednesday I came home from work to see this

The forsythia are finally blooming. These are terribly overgrown right now and desperately need to be trimmed. I had a customer at work who happened to notice as he drove by my house. He told me he would be happy to come over and trim them for me

April Showers

This is the latest card that I made. On the front it says April Showers. On the inside I'm going to put brings May flowers and I'll include a pack of flower seeds

some customers are royal pain in the butt

I had a customer who ordered a cake for Easter Sunday. There was a lot of writing that she wanted on it which took up quite a bit of space on the cake. Then she wanted to know if I could do tulips. I told her I've never done them before. Next she started asking about balloons. I told her I could do that so I asked her how she wanted it. She went back and forth on what you really wanted then finally settled on a balloon on east side and three in the middle to break things up and even it out. Fine. Then she starts asking what else she could put on it. I told her I'll be lucky if I can fit the balloons with all that writing. Here it is. I'm betting she probably wasn't happy with it. She just seemed like that type of customer.

it's about time

Last Saturday I finally did it. I forced myself to suck it up, and get the bathroom painted. After I had my morning coffee I got to work. First I had to paint over the new drywall with primer I also used the primer to help cover up some stenciling that was along the top of the wall. Then I went to get the can of paint from the basement. Unfortunately it wasn't any good. Why do I not check these things ahead of time? I made a quick run to Walmart and bought a gallon of paint. The plan had been to go with the antique white but since that didn't work out I bought gray paint. I'll add here that I not only hate painting but I might possibly be the world's worst painter. It's not perfect but it's done.

This picture was taken before I put the towel bar back up and shelf that I hang on that wall on the right. Plus my rugs were still in the dryer. I have a couple spots that I have to go back over and there are a few spots where I hit the ceiling and I need to go over those. I taped off most everything except the ceiling. Big mistake but live and learn.

Tuesday

Yesterday new hire was scheduled to work in the bakery. That meant that I needed to train. Let's just add here, that I hate training. I have absolutely no patience for it whatsoever. With that being said it was rather a frustrating day for me to watch him. I realize he is just learning but for me it's a very frustrating experience. At one point he asked me a question that in my opinion required a smart-ass answer. He says to me you remind me of my grandmother. So I asked him is that a crack on my age? And he said no you have the same attitude that my grandmother has. I kind of think I might like his grandmother.

For the sweet side of my job I came up with a new creation. It is a sugar cookie baked in a cupcake pan. When it comes out of the oven I used a small sprinkle bottle to make an indentation in the cookie. Then I added either raspberry or lemon filling and topped it with a whipped cream frosting. They are delicious

Monday

Even though I would have rather had my regular day off, yesterday wasn't so bad. I thought I could be done by 10:00 but ended up being there until. 11:00 which wasn't too bad. Then I went home, ate lunch, and took a nap.
The new hire I had talked about the other day was scheduled in the deli. At 7:00 he wasn't there. I went looking for the store manager he said that the new guy was in the bathroom. 10 minutes later he finally comes into the deli. So we get started, he's new so I gave him some pointers here and there. That was when I noticed him rolling his eyes. A little bit later I said to him I'm not sure how late I'm going to be here but before I leave I will find out about who it's going to cover your lunch. Then he says to me I'm not sure how late I'm going to be here either because I'm not feeling well. I sent him on break and about 5 minutes later he comes back. Apparently he went to the store manager and asked if they could go down the deli list and find a replacement for him. Seriously? You have a job in the deli because we just don't have enough workers for the area. One is off on a medical leave, the deli manager is in the hospital. So new higher went home. Kids these days I just wanted to tell him to suck it up buttercup.

Bright spot of the day was when I came home and noticed I have daffodils

Just a quick one.

 A real quick post today.

The store was open yesterday until 3:00 and I did have to work. I was only there until 10:00 though. Then it was home for a quick nap. Amanda and Rob came over and Amanda cooked a wonderful dinner. I didn't take one single picture.

Today instead of sleeping in and enjoying a leisurely morning, I will be heading to work. The deli manager who normally works bakery on my days off is in the hospital so I have to go in. Hopefully I can get things done quick and leave.

I may or may not get caught up on emails and blog reading. If on the off chance I don't blog this week, you'll know that I'm asleep on the couch.

Happy Easter

Wishing all of you a wonderful Easter.

The latest cake order

This is the last cake I did at work

Oops! I apparently added some artistic flair to the letter R. Now that I look it's the e also.

I would call this a mistake but Lin says not to point those out and they are simply my artistic flair.

spring flowers

The other day we got some spring flowers in at the store. There were lily's, hyacinth and tulips. A customer came back with these tulips and said he bought them for us. I told the deli manager to take them home and give them to her mother.

There were also these adorable mums and I couldn't resist buying one.

Random stuff.

Because I am totally in love with that card that I made yesterday, I made another one. This time it's brown. It just gets cuter every time I look at it.
Tuesday at work we had a new hire working with us. I ended up accidentally cutting my finger on the slicer in the deli. I immediately told the deli person and then I proceeded to wrap my finger in a paper towel to get it to stop bleeding. The new hire walks over to me with a box of Band-Aids and a very concerned look on his face. I told him no big deal I'm fine. Next thing I know he walks back over and says can you do me a favor. I say okay what is it and he says could you please just sit down. I again told him I'm fine really it's no big deal. I'm not quite sure why he was so insistent about me sitting down but it kind of amused me. The deli manager told me yesterday that he was really upset for some reason that I wouldn't sit down.

The weather here has finally taken a turn for the better. We've had temperatures reaching 60 and yesterday when I left work it was actually 77

Bunny card

The other day while I was scrolling through Facebook I came across the post that was offering a free design space file for a shaped bunny card. This is from CraftyMelinda.com. I couldn't resist. Monday I spent part of my day off making it, I think he's totally adorable. After cutting the pieces on my Cricut I inked the edges and then I added details with black pens.

The inside which is plain to write your own message.

For some reason comments that were coming to my email aren't so I can't answer you through email. Instead I'll respond to some comments on the next day post when I think of it.

From yesterday.
Ginny, the card itself isn't $58. It's a kit that includes everything to make it which would be several cutting dies. That's why so expensive.

Anni, I decided to go with antique white in the bathroom since I already had paint in that color. I'm embarrassed to say though that I still have not gotten myself to paint. I'm so stinking lazy. Plus I HATE painting.

Lin I'll try better in the future not to point out my artistic flair...lol
