just an ordinary day

Yesterday was just another typical day off. I watched TV and Gibbs watched what was going on outside.
While scrolling through Facebook I saw something someone had made using items from Dollar Tree. I really liked it so I decided I would run to Dollar Tree to see if I could find what I needed to make one for myself. While out I decided to stop near the lake and snap a few pictures

Aside from that I made a couple Valentine's cards that I'll show you tomorrow and I did a lot of playing on the computer.

What do you think?

I don't necessarily like writing about serious subjects on my blog but I've got nothing else and this is on my mind. I'm worried about all the talk about raising the minimum wage to $15 an hour. Here are a few of my concerns.

  • After 23 years at my current job, I would end up being a minimum wage employee because there is no way my boss could afford to raise everyone's wages accordingly.
  • I would be making the same hourly wage as a brand new 16 year old cashier who does nothing but stand at her register and scroll through her cell phone when no one is watching.
  • I would be no better off than I am now because businesses will have to raise their prices to compensate for the higher wages they have to pay.
I understand there are single parents out there trying to make ends meet on a minimum wage job but there are also a lot of high school kids out there who certainly don't need to be making that much money. Without saying exactly what I make, I will tell you that currently I make less than $15 an hour. So yes, raising the minimum wage to that would be an increase in pay for me. But I still have all the above concerns. For the area I live in, I am doing just fine on the wages I make. The thing is you have to know how to manage your money and you have to have priorities when it comes to spending it.

So do I think they should raise the minimum wage to $15 an hour? NO I do not. If they were to do that however, I think it should be for a full time employee only so that an employer has the option of keeping employees at part time especially in the instance where they are still in high school.

OK, your turn. What's your opinion on this subject.

Valentine treat holder

I did some playing in my craft room the other day and I made these Valentine treat holders. They're made to hold a Reese's Peanut Butter heart.
Here's another picture showing one of the holders from the side to show where you slide in the peanut butter heart

what do you follow?

The top of my fake fireplace was looking a bit bare so I decided to put out my Valentine's decorations.
I bought this sign last year but I can't remember where I got it from
My question for you today is do you follow your heart or do you follow your head?

Made me laugh

There was a comment from Pam on my post the other day that made me laugh. Then there was another laugh while I was dictating my post to my phone. I said one thing and it put down something totally different. The following is the post I spoke to my phone in the blogger app. What the phone thought I said is in parentheses.
The other day on my post entitled stumped, I mentioned that the road between work and home (work-at-home) is short and boring. Pam left me a comment saying (staying) that when she was younger she would worry about becoming a creature of routine so she would invent new ways home. That kind of made me laugh because when I say the road home (Marlboro Road home) is short I'm talking it takes under 2 minutes to get there. There are two routes I can take. If I want a change of scenery I need to go the totally opposite direction from home. Then again maybe I might try that someday

laundry weight

My daughter uses the cutest weight to keep her laundry from falling out of the basket.

Stumped

I didn't post yesterday because I came home from work Friday night and had absolutely nothing. I still have nothing. The road between work and home is short and boring and if there was anything interesting between here and there I didn't notice it.

I sat in my craft room trying to make something, anything. Instead I made nothing. You would think with Valentines Day right around the corner I would be able to come up with something. I'm blaming it all on too much snow, gray skies and cold weather.

If anyone wants me I'll be under a blanket on the couch.

Pizza pans and placemats

As promised today I'll show you what I did with those placemats. I had some pizza pan sitting around that I had bought a long time ago for a project that never happened. Time to put those things to use. Pizza pans, placemats, and a few other craft supplies and in no time I had these.

I'm pretty happy with the way they turned out. I just can't decide which one I like better.

Can you guess?

I bought these placemats at Dollar Tree for a craft project. Can you guess what I'm going to do with them?

I had to crop them in pretty close because I forgot to take the picture before I actually put them on the project. Check back tomorrow to see what I made

Someone is turning three

Presley will be turning three this Saturday so I decided to make her a card. I cut the card base and the number 3 with my Cricut machine and then decorated the card with some princess stickers I found at Dollar Tree

My wintry world

Yesterday morning I woke up to a wintry wonderland. I didn't mind so much since I didn't have to go out to work. It was the perfect day for staying in my pajamas and doing some crafting

just stuff

Good news. The guy I've been covering for will be back to work on Thursday so I'll be back to my regular schedule

I have no plans for the day so anything goes. I'm leaning towards napping and being lazy

I haven't done any crafting in a while. I need to find my mojo and get back in the craft room.

Cake

It's been awhile since I've posted any cake pictures. Cake orders have been pretty slow at the store lately. I did do one last Wednesday though. You might remember me complaining about the customer last year who wanted five different colors. This was her ordering again which is why it has so many colors on it

the cat's meow

So it's off to work this morning for a few hours. What a way to spend a day off. The bright spot is that I thought I was going to have to work Monday too but it turns out I will still be able to have that day off. Isn't that the cat's meow Yesterday Ginny asked if I'll also be running the bakery at the same time I'm playing manager. Actually I have multiple responsibilities. I'll be doing the bakery, taking care of the office, and taking care of the produce department.
There were a couple of you that said you hoped that I was being compensated for all this work. I would say the time and a half that I'll be getting for all the extra hours is pretty good compensation. Grace mentioned that she hoped I was stashing the overtime in a special account so that I can splurge. I don't know about a special account but I will be stashing it away and hopefully I can talk myself into splurging a little

well dog gone

I got a call from the boss yesterday morning telling me that the manager called off and wanted to know if I could come in early. Of course I said yes. After I got there I got a call from the manager who said he's going to be off work for a week because he messed up his knee. So what does that mean for me? It means I am now filling in and working every day. I was looking for a dog gone good reason to use these cute dog stickers in a blog post. However getting stuck working 7 days a week is far from good. At least the stickers are cute

Baby it's cold outside

This was actually at 5:27 am. I never changed the clock when the time changed.
How long is it until spring is here?

I want a do over

Yesterday for my day off it was gray and gloomy and lazy. Today I have to go to work and I just want to have another day off instead. I want another chance to either be totally lazy again or spend it another way.

If wishes were horses, then beggars would ride.
If turnips were swords, I'd have one at my side.
If "ifs" and "ands" were pots and pans,
There'd be no work for tinkers' hands.

Day off

Yes, it's my day off from work but I"m also taking the day off from the blog.

Progress

I spent my day off yesterday making more progress on the cleaning out. I have a box filled that will be going to Amanda
And the pile of garbage to go out to the garbage can So far I'm making more progress this year than I have any other year

Keeper of the goat

My boss's daughter bought him a screaming goat for Christmas. It's a little plastic goat that when you push it down it makes a screaming sound. It's supposed to be some kind of stress reliever. He brought it  into the bakery one day and told me I was the official Keeper of the goat. Throughout the day when he gets annoyed with someone or something he comes in and makes the goat scream.

Some helper

I'm not sure exactly who the helper is here. It could be  Ace who was helping my daughter Amanda put away Christmas decorations.
Or it could be my daughter Amanda who sent me the pictures and suggested that since I was out of blog material I should use these with the title some helper.

Either way, it works for me.

why I don't watch the news

This is not meant to be political. I'm not taking sides for either Biden or Trump, Republican or Democrat. This is about how I hate watching the news. I turned the TV on when I got home from work yesterday  to see what was going on. It's infuriating to see a news show that is filled with opinions rather than just the news. What happened to the day when a news program was just the news just the facts no opinions whatsoever. The short time that I had  this turned on  it was so blatantly biased that it wasn't even funny

I don't expect everyone to agree with me on this and that's fine. If you don't then lets just agree to disagree and leave it at that.

Commenting on comments

I really am out of things to blog about so I thought I would comment on some of the recent comments that you have left me.

Yesterday there were a few of you that said that you liked broccoli cheese soup but weren't too sure about the chicken. Well the soup I made had no cheese in it. There was carrots, broccoli and chicken along with a few other ingredients. Maybe next time I will make broccoli cheese soup.

The other day Andrea left the comment Don't try to catch up, dear heart. Just start where you are and go forward. ~Andrea xoxo I think that sounds like excellent advice.

Pam commented the other day Come March my ATT contract will be up and I am dropping them for internet and cable. Going with comcast on internet and I am going to start streaming. Just got to check out the streaming stuff and find out what will give me what I want.  Well that's what I do. I do use an antenna to get local channels and then I stream through Prime and Hulu. I also use Pluto which is totally free.

a mixed bag kind of day

Yesterday was pretty much a mixed bag. Of course I started my day off with the computer and coffee. I do have my priorities you know. Next I paid some bills which is never much fun but a necessary evil.
I rounded it out with laundry, a little bit of cleaning out, and cooking a pot of soup. this one is called easy healthy chicken broccoli soup. It's one that I had pinned on Pinterest and finally got around to trying it. It was okay but not necessarily the best soup I've ever had

bottom of the barrel

I came home from work yesterday feeling a little bit tired. Due to lack of energy I spent the rest of the day laying around on the couch watching TV. Sundays are horrible for TV though so I went in search of something new to watch. I found Everwood. I'm starting from the beginning and so far I'm about 4 episodes into it. It's always good to have a show to watch on those days when there's nothing else on

Not only did I not make any more progress on my clean up effort but I'm way behind on blog reading. I guess I'll be catching up this morning. Better put the coffee on.

Off to a good start

I know this is only the third day in to the new year, but I think I'm getting off to a pretty good start. New Years day I had to work for a few hours in the morning. I came home and put pork chops and sauerkraut in the crock pot for my dinner. After that I took down my tree and got it put away and I packed up the nativity set as well. I didn't get that empty room feeling this year that usually goes with taking down the decorations. I guess that's because I didn't put many up.

Saturday I started working on cleaning out again. I now have the bedroom done. I went through the dresser drawers and cedar chest and got rid of a ton of clothes. When I was done with that I did the linen closet and got rid of a bunch of blankets and sheets that I don't need or want. Seeing the much emptier closet made me feel happy. I ever started in on my craft room but that one is going to require a lot of work. I'm determined to do it though.

Today is work and I need to remember to bring home more boxes since I didn't have enough to pack up all the clothes I cleaned out.

Well that's about it for now. Owl see you later.

A very old draft

A while back I was going to start a new blog. Apparently I had written one post and it was stuck in draft and never published. This was from January 2018.

The title of the post was Throwing you to the wolves and was dated 1/2/2018

Before Christmas I posted pictures of the village on top of my fake fireplace and a couple of you mentioned the wolf picture I had on my wall.

This one hangs over the fireplace and was a gift from my son.

It's not the only wolf picture I have in my living room though. This one painted on a feather hangs on the same wall on the other side of the room.

And this large painting hangs over my couch. If you look at this picture you will see other wolves, besides the two main ones, hidden throughout the picture. I can't recall how many total there are supposed to be.

And now a couple of wolf proverbs I found to finish this post off.

“If you run from a wolf, you may run into a bear.” – Lithuanian
“It is madness for a sheep to talk of peace with a wolf.” – French
And this quote I found but I have no idea who said it.
“Scars are just a treasure map for pain you've buried too deep to remember.” “Like a missing tooth, sometimes an absence is more noticeable than a presence.” “The wolves knew when it was time to stop looking for what they'd lost, to focus instead on what was yet to come.”
