why I don't watch the news

This is not meant to be political. I'm not taking sides for either Biden or Trump, Republican or Democrat. This is about how I hate watching the news. I turned the TV on when I got home from work yesterday  to see what was going on. It's infuriating to see a news show that is filled with opinions rather than just the news. What happened to the day when a news program was just the news just the facts no opinions whatsoever. The short time that I had  this turned on  it was so blatantly biased that it wasn't even funny

I don't expect everyone to agree with me on this and that's fine. If you don't then lets just agree to disagree and leave it at that.

I only watch news shows that agree with me! No frustration.

I don't watch the TV news, and I try to read digital newspapers that are least biased according to mediabiasfactcheck.com: "These sources have minimal bias and use very few loaded words (wording that attempts to influence an audience by using appeal to emotion or stereotypes)…." I'm like you, I don't like it when people try to manipulate me.

we watch all the channels, a little at a time, they all lean towards there own opinions. i try to make my own opinion from listening to the people involved, not the talking heads are saying. it is human nature to say what we agree with, most of us think our opinion is the right one. we need to know what is happening to keep something from happing lke the captiol being attacked.

It was very frustrating what I saw on TV ... they threw democracy out the window straight into the mud! I am glad to live in Europe ... and proud!

Ginny, well that's a good idea...lol

CheerfulMonk I think originally I stopped watching the news because my husband would watch all the time and he was always depressed about what was going on in the world. I didn't watch and I was a much happier person than him. It was sort of an "ignorance is bliss" kind of thing.

Anni, yep, spot on...lol

I quit watching the news many years ago until the virus came along. Now I never turn it off. I liked ignorance is bliss better but these days it's like watching a train wreck, it's the last ting I want to see but I just can't look away!

I quit watching the opinion and propaganda folks long ago. We are far happier for it too.

Have a fabulous day, Ann. Big hug to you and lots of scritches to Gibbs. ♥♥♥

I know a young man that my daughter was friends with in high school and he went on to be a news reporter in a small town in Central Illinois. He is 25. He started his career being careful not to add opinion to his reporting, but yesterday....there it was....his OPINION. It saddened me to see him go that way. I commented on his post on FB that I was disappointed to see him try to drive his thoughts and opinions about the story he was so-called reporting. I don't need someone to interpret what is happening, I am able to do that for myself. I agree, I can't watch/read the "news" anymore. It's info-tainment.

I agree with you Ann. It's the same thing here - it's biased and I'm not sure when or why it changed. When I read, listen or watch the news I want to know what is going on and I will form my own opinion. Wouldn't it be nice if the media listened to us. Silly them.

Oh, Ann, I so agree. Although I remember before there was an alternative view, I have seen bias for a LONG time, it is just more blatant now.

You and me both, Ann. And I don't think this post is "political" at all... it's just stating a fact. Where's Walter Cronkite when you need him!! ~Andrea xoxo

I don't have a TV, but I can look on my computer via TVonDemand. The first I knew something bad had happened in the USA was via a friend on fb but I had no idea what - as the post said something about USA but not what...and lots of her friends had made comments, like in the "sad emoji" still didn't know what it was - checked in on my news here in NZ. "oh no..." enough said....

I agree with you 100%. I haven't watched the news in years other than some some fires, weather related disasters and something like 9/11. Can't stand it!

I have always hated watching the news. It used to be their sensationalizing everything but for the past few years it's been their fear mongering and and bias that is keeping me away now. At least when you read online news you can pick and choose what you read.

I usually keep my TV on cable during the day and since I was busy doing things I was not aware of what was happening, till I took a break and looked at FB. I was not shocked. I will go on the record as saying I don't think either one of those guys needed or should be in office. One appears to be a pansy and the other a trouble maker. My thought alone!
