The power of suggestion

I had been talking to one of the girls at work and she was telling me about buying a pillow pad for her mother. It's a wedge shaped pillow that will hold a book, kindle, tablet, phone etc and you have hands free use of any of those items. She said her mom really liked it and she bought one for herself. Then Sandra from Mad Snapper was telling me about the one she got and she posted it on her blog. I decided I wanted one and ordered it on Amazon. It was supposed to be here this past Monday but actually arrived Sunday.

I kind of wanted the blue one but they were currently out of stock on both the red and blue so I got the black.

When I first got it, it came compressed in plastic. I took the plastic off and was all excited to see it expand. Let me say that I was a little concerned that maybe I had wasted my money. It said it would expand in just a few minutes. It actually took it a few hours. So far I really like this. It's so much easier because when I was holding it I would constantly hit the back button.

Stupid is as stupid does

And boy did I pull off a really stupid one. I mentioned that Saturday I got out in the yard and did some work. Well Saturday night I was looking for my glasses and couldn't find them anywhere. That is until I went back outside to put the lid back on the burn barrel. This is what I found laying on top of the ashes.

Those are the glasses I just got last year. How they got in the burn barrel I can't say for sure. I have two theories. I had my glasses on top of my head and when I reached down in to light the papers to start the fire they fell off. Or the second theory is that they fell off my head into a pile of sticks I was picking up and I threw the whole thing in there. Either way I don't recall them falling off. Needless to say I was none too pleases with myself.

I called the place where I got these and they are closed thanks to covid 19. There is an emergency number you can call but I really don't classify this as an emergency. I can see without them and I have readers to use for reading. I don't know how long the prescription is good for but I'm hopig they can make a new pair off of that rather than having to have another eye exam.

Now you see me, now you don't

That seems to be the new MO for my blogging activity.
Saturday was a mildly productive day for a change. While most of my days off have been spent lounging, this one actually included some work around the house and a little out in the yard. The weather was perfect and I probably should have spent more time outside.

This next one is not my picture but I found it in my archives and liked it.

Nothing much

It's looking like Thursdays are going to be a day off of blogging for a while. With me working 10 hours on Wednesday the last thing I want to do when I get home is sit in front of the computer. That is my reason for not being here yesterday.

Of course today I don't have anything. I saw something the other day on Facebook that I thought would be kind of fun to post but I didn't save it and do you think I can find it again? I scrolled through for quite a while hoping to see it again but no such luck.

Finally a random selection of old pictures that I pulled for todays post.

Crazy

One day I'm mowing lawn and looking at spring flowers and then two days later it's snowing.

Yes, you heard me right. It was snowing here again yesterday. Nothing was sticking but it's just not right to look out the window in April and see it snowing like crazy.

Tuesday, April 21, 2020

Have you seen it?

Nope.

Pom Pom? What pom pom? I haven't seen any pink pom pom.

That's entertainment

Well it's entertainment for me any way. Gibbs wasn't real thrilled with the idea. To prove his displeasure he snapped at me when I tried to take it off of him.

I was only trying to protect him from the virus.

In other news, when I got home from work yesterday I mowed the lawn for the first time this year. Snow on Friday, mowing on Sunday. It's crazy I tell ya. I wasn't alone in mowing either. I saw a neighbor a few houses up mowing and when I went out the neighbor next door was already working on his lawn and the house on the other side of him started mowing too. Guess it was the day for it.

Green

Sandra posted about the Green Man. I had never heard of it before but I said the post reminded me of Mr Yuk. I got the line "Mr Yuk is mean, Mr Yuk is green" stuck in my head. Sandra said she had never heard of this and I said I thought they came out when my kids were growing up. Turns out they were from the 70s. I didn't realize they were that old.

Do you remember Mr Yuk?

Enough is enough

This is what it looked like when I left work yesterday

And remember those baby leaves the other day that made me happy? Well now look at them.

I don't which is going to put me over the edge quicker, the weather or the pandemic.

Thought you could all use a Gibbs fix.

As a bonus, here is a Gibbs fix edit.

I'll keep the whining to a minimum

Thanks everyone for your comments on yesterdays post. I won't respond to each of them because it will just get me going again. Things going on right now are just driving me crazy. Just a brief continuation on yesterdays post and then I'll move on. I live in a really small town. We have the grocery store I work in (small independantly owned), Dollar General, Family Dollar, a independantly owned drug store and a Country Fair (convenience store/gas station that is a large corporation). The boss sent me out on a mission. He gave me $20 to go shop in these stores and scope out what they were doing as far as masks/gloves. Of the 4 stores only 1 person was wearing a mask, one was wearing gloves and the rest had neither. 2 of the stores do have a plexi glass shield. People won't complain about them though, they have a habbit of only slamming us.

On another note, we have a self serve donut case. Not one complaint so far about it although other stores have discontinued their self serve donut cases. Today one guy told the boss that Store X isn't selling their donuts any more. Maybe you should stop with yours too. Really? If you have a problem with it then just don't buy them but don't ruin it for all the other customers who still want to purchase them.

OK I'm done now. Just so you know there are still things that make me happy. Seeing little baby leaves coming out on the trees is one of them.

Heavy sigh

I hesitate to post about this because I could start great debates with it but it is what's going on in life right now.
Up until Saturday, we did not have to wear masks at work if we didn't want to. Only one employee did. The boss did however bring in masks for everyone that his wife made for us. Wednesdays are my long days right now. I work 10 hours and not only do I do the bakery but I'm also the manager in charge of the store. The Wednesday before last a customer stopped me to point out that I wasn't wearing a mask. I can't even recall what I said to her and then went on my way. About a half hour later another customer called and let me have it about our store not wearing them. I told her I would pass her concern on to my boss. She said you do that and I will be calling him to let him know how I feel. I should add her she is an ex employee. She never did call but the boss received an unsigned letter a couple days later. It pretty much said the same things the ex employee stated on the phone plus a threat to spread bad publicity if we didn't start wearing them.

So needless to say they are mandatory now. I know, the majority of people think I should be wearing one any way but try wearing one for 8 hours straight. They make it hard to breathe, your glasses fog up, they kill your ears and for me, they get tangled in my hearing aids. I'm well aware of the arguments for wearing them. I also know that covering my cough or sneeze is important which I do and I also wash my hands frequently during the day and avoid touching my face. I also wear gloves while I'm working. I chose to NOT wear a mask. But here I am now with my mask.

I came across a crochet pattern on Facebook for straps you can use so that you don't have to put the elastic from the mask over your ears. I have made several. One for myself and one for anyone at work who wants one.

Easter

Another Easter has come and gone. For most this one was much different than usual but for me not so much. I worked as usual but not a whole day. I was there about 5 hours.

I went to my daughters house for dinner. I supplied the ham and she did the cooking. I thought it was a pretty fair deal.

I snapped a quick close up of one of her furbabies taking an after dinner nap.

I sent Presley's mom a quick text to ask her if Presley got to wear the bunny shirt I made her. She sent me a pic of her wearing it. Cutest little bunny ever.

The evening was spent on the couch watching tv. Now I need to catch up on blog reading and emails. I guess that's a good place to start my day off.

Happy Easter

I've heard people say that Easter is cancelled this year. Perhaps the church services or the family gatherings are cancelled but Easter will come regardless. We may be staying in our homes but the world is waking up after a long winter. Easter is a time to celebrate life. So wherever you are and whoever you are with celebrate life today.

Paper bunny and chick

I dowloaded a free SVG file from Jennifer Maker for a paper filigree bunny and chick.

I did the bunny on my day off and was pretty happy with how it came out so decided to make the chick as well.

Tuesday I cut out the pieces after I got home from work but ran out of steam so didn't put it together. Wednesday I worked a 10 hour day and when I got home I decided to put the chick together. I kept getting glue all over the place. That's what happens when you try and craft when you're tired. He still came out pretty cute too.

She also offered free SVG files for paper filigree eggs as well. I don't know if I'll get around to making those this year but maybe for next year.

Easter stuff

Just thought I would take some pictures of the Easter stuff that I've put out.

This is my mantle

My hutch

And this piece on my mantel was a Dollar Tree decoration that I painted over then glued on a print and cut image

I had plans for some other Easter crafts but just never felt like doing them.

What's around your belly.

Gibbs is now sporting a belly band when he is in the house.

I purchased a pack of three of these. The one he's wearing looks like a pair of jeans, the one below is his bumble bee band and the third one is plain blue.

I tried to make some years ago but Wade wouldn't pay attention to what he was doing and he was wetting them faster than I could wash them. We have things much more controlled now and he does fairly well but there is still that occasional rebelious moment. With the belly band on him there are no worries. He's ok with me putting it on him and he doesn't try to get them off but he gets a bit freaked out by the ripping velcro sound when I take it off him to go outside.

Scrounging.

These days I do a lot of scrounging. Trying to find something to blog about, trying to find something to entertain myself with, trying to avoid the endless posts, news articles and reports regarding the coronavirus.

I don't look forward to my days off as much as I did. I still love being able to sleep in a little and leisurely drink my coffee and enjoy blog reading but once that is done, then what? Well yesterday I paid some bills, I read a little, I tore my vacuum apart and cleaned out the gunk that was preventing the belt from working. Oh boy, did I have a good time.

I also took a walk around the house because Sunday when I came home I spotted a sign of spring.

I don't have a lot of flowers in my yard because I am horrible at gardening and I don't like weeding. It was nice to see these blooming though.

Of course I also see that I have a whole lot of cleaning up to do from last fall with all those leaves. Too bad I don't have the ambition to go out and take care of it. The days are getting nicer but Monday was a bit cool.

What was the macro

For my macro shot in the scavenger hunt yesterday I dug around in Wade's toolbox. I don't know exactly what this is but I think it has something to do with drill bits. If I'm wrong feel free to correct me.

Scavanger hunt

I'm playling along with Anni
I'm kind of being lazy about it though. I copied and pasted the list of items from Anni's blog instead of typing it all out myself. I may or may not get back to link up. I at least managed to get all the pictures though.

https://hootin--anni.blogspot.com/2020/04/ah-ah-ah-ah-staying-inside-staying.html

1- A piece of jewelry with RED on it.

2- An animal [live or stuffed]
I couldn't decide so I gave you live AND stuffed.

3- A printed item [book, magazine, letter, package, etc.] with the letter "L" on the cover/front

4- A YELLOW flower [artificial or real]

5- Framed art with a human image

6- Anything made of glass [except for a drinking glass!]

7- Something with a buckle

8- Something square or rectangle that is BLUE

9- Anything that is unopened [can, jar, carton] with the word "Nutrition" printed on it

10- This is #10. It is an odd one. Find something and make it a "Macro Mystery". It has to be an item that is uncommon. Something we do not see every day. :for instance, a paint can opener:...and a macro image [close up]. Make the image a mystery for us to guess what the item is; not the 'whole thing'. Then, after you link your hunt items, we can guess what it is in your comments!
