Way back on THIS POSTI showed you a canvas that I had painted red. Well I changed it up a bit and decided to do it as a reverse canvas project instead. I finally got around to finishing it yesterday. I know it's a bit early for Santa but I wanted to get this done and off the table.
I painted the canvas and the wood frame the same color red then added the white vinyl. I messed a couple of the letters up but it's a small enough goof up that it's still good enough.
I can't remember who told me about it and where I saw it but I wanted to try a new (to me) technique. This is basically taking a napkin with a nice printed picture on it and fusing it to a piece of paper so that you can use it for various paper projects.
What you do is take a piece of paper or cardstock in my case, lay a piece of plastic wrap over it and then layer a napkin on top that has had the layers separated. You want only the top, printed layer of the napkin. Then you cover that with another piece of paper and iron it until the plastic wrap melts and fuses the napkin to the paper.
This time of year there are things we need to do to get ready for the colder months ahead. Gibbs figured that now he's got less fur to keep him warm he should try out a hat to see if it would fit.
Too bad I couldn't get a better picture of him. He wasn't quite sure it was his style or not.
Last Saturday was the fair parade. Some of you may remember that this goes right by my house so I just have to go sit in my front yard to watch it.
I dropped Gibbs off at the groomer and then went and picked up my son and Presley so they could come over and watch the parade. While we were waiting for it to start we watched a bunch of people come up the sidewalk and choose my front yard to park their chairs in. There were some other people coming over to watch too so I had bought some donuts for the all the kids. I took the donuts out so the kids could each pick one and went in the house to grab something else. When I looked out there was the kid who was with the group I didn't know helping himself to a donut. Well alrighty then.
On to the parade. Just a few pictures
The marching bands are always a treat.
This band was led by their eagle mascot.
We discovered that Presley did not care for the clown
No I haven't started dating. The new man is Gibbs. The old man was looking very scraggly
Saturday morning he went to the groomer
He no longer looks like a homeless dog.
The last time I took him to the groomer it cost me $25.00. This time it was $42.50. I don't know if the cost has gone up that much since the last time I took him or it was because he was so bad. Of course this is a different groomer than I went to before also.
For several years now the door on the back of my house that goes into the basement has been seriously messed up. The storm door has sat crooked and then the winter before Wade passed away the handle on that door broke and he rigged something up temporarily so it could still be opened. This is what I have been dealing with.
Not only did it look hideous but it was rather embarrassing.
This is the redneck door handle I've dealt with.
On top of how bad it looked, last winter there was a lot of cold air coming in through that door. This year once the mortgage was paid off I knew I had to get this fixed. Finding someone was a real hassle but I did finally find someone. He told me he was really busy but would squeeze me in as soon as he could.
This is fair week here in our small town and if you've been with me for a while you know this is a rough week at work. Being that I'm not getting any younger it's kicking my butt. I'm taking the easy way out today and sharing a video of some really smart dogs.
The cooler mornings and evenings must have me in the mood for fall. I decided to dig out some of my fall decorations yesterday and change things up a bit.
I've had this wreath for quite a while. I can't even remember when or where I got it.
I took down a picture on the wall and replaced it with the stick wreath I made several years ago. I replaced a picture frame with the charger plate I made recently and swapped the black bowl I had there for a leaf shaped dish
This shelf only had a wicker basket with some fake ivy.
For the last couple weeks I've really been wanting to make some kind of soup but I haven't been able to decide on what kind. While in Walmart on Saturday I decided I was going to buy what I needed to make some. I pulled out my phone and went to my soup board on Pinterest. I decided on a soup called Tuscan sausage and white bean.
Along with some garlic bread it was a most delicious meal. If I were to make this again I might add more beans and I would definitely add some spinach.
I finally finished a craft project. This is a relatively easy project that took me way longer to make than it should have.
Not the best picture but it is what it is.
The frame was made from large paint sticks cut to size. I stained the sticks and when they were dry I glued them on to a piece of foam board. I glued in a piece of scrapbook paper for the background then cut a pumpkin with my cricut and glued that in place. Then I made the "happy" banner, glued that on and then glued on the metal harvest. I finished it off by gluing a leaf on the pumpkin. I didn't buy anything new to make this since I had all the materials already. Originally I was going to leave the foam board just the plain white and do something with a black vinyl but changed my mind and went with this instead. I may still try the vinyl option since I have more of the paint sticks and the foam board.
I haven't been around for a couple days because I've been catching up on some sleep. Wednesday morning the boss asked me if I would come back that night and work 4-9. Being the glutton for punishment that I am, I said yes. It was an easy enough job just standing at the register all night cashing people out.
Between the 13 hour work day and getting Gibbs used to the new routine I have been a bit tired. After work on Thursday I came home and crashed on the couch. Friday was spent napping, lounging, vegetating in front of the tv and a little reading. Not how I had planned on spending that extra day off but it worked.
I've mentioned in the past that Gibbs had some very bad habits. Most were because Wade and I had entirely different ideas of how to train him. Now that it's just Gibbs and I, I've set some very strict boundaries for him. He's not perfect but he's much better.
He has always been confined to a section of the basement when I'm not at home and once it was just the two of us I also put him there at night when I went to bed. He couldn't be trusted to stay in my room.
Lately he's been acting a little stressed out about going to the basement. I feel guilty about leaving him alone so much so I decided that while I can't do anything about while I'm at work, I can give him the opportunity to behave at night in my room. Sunday night was the first night. I figured that would be a good time to start since I didn't have to worry about getting up the next morning. Turns out that was a good plan because every time I made the slightest move he would jump up and get in my face thinking it was time to play. While that was annoying it didn't really hurt anything and he did go all night without doing anything bad. Monday night was also successful and he managed to stay out of my face for most of the night. Keep your fingers crossed that this continues to go well.
Oh and by the way, I do realize he is looking very scraggly. He has an appointment but the soonest I could get him in was September 14th. I'm trying a new groomer. It's one I used once before with Duke but Gibbs has never been there. She was ok but didn't have convenient hours at the time. Now I'm able to get him in there on a Saturday.
Today in the U.S. we celebrate the American worker. Since today is my regular day off I don't have to work. No plans for the day just a typical no work kind of day for me. However you decide to spend it I hope you have a great day.
Can you believe it's Septmeber already? Where has this year gone. Time is flying by way too fast. Why it seems like only yesterday it was August. OK so that was just totally silly of me but I couldn't help myself.
Just a few pictures from around the yard. That one bloom on the hydrangea is still hanging on although it's color is fading.
The yarrow is drying up
And I have no idea what this is. It was given to me by a neighbor several years ago. I can't say that I've seen it flower every year but it was putting on a show for me here.
I came home from work to find a nice surprise in my mailbox yesterday. Diane from Lavender Dreams sent me lovely package
I just love the saying on that card. The colors in the fabric ribbon are beautiful and that teacup coaster is just the sweetest.
She even included a little package of beach treasures.
