The Christsmas cards have all been sent, the gifts are bought and wrapped, the tree is up and the decorations are out. It looks like Christmas but it doesn't feel like Christmas. Is it just an age thing that the older you lose that feeling of holiday magic? Am I the only one who is thinking that it just doesn't feel like Christmas?

I'm one ancient kid at heart...I love Christmas.
cute door know snowman and great edit too.. make that also. we stopped doing Christmas in 2006, no presents given or gotten..the Christmas 6 of us exchange 25.00 gift cards.
I think your feelings are coming from missing Wade and living alone with Gibbs. hope it feels more like Christmas when your family comes..
I relate to your thoughts. And they pretty much relate to my life in general anymore. Christmas brings the feelings to the forefront. In some ways I think it is a gradual letting go of earthly ways.
Having said that there are still lots of joy to be found. It's just taken on a different perspective.
We don't decorate anymore. We really don't do much anymore, but we love Christmas. We just don't really show it. Not to worry. You might find that down the road that joy will return.
Have a fabulous day, Ann. Big hug to you and lots of scritches to Gibbs. ♥♥♥
I have such mixed feelings about the holidays, that it would take all day to share them. There are some things that are hard for me, some I still love. But I still enjoy the real reason for the season...Joy to the World is usually an uplifting song, today Mary Did You Know is going in the background of my mind...
I was feeling that way for a long time, but this year is different for some reason! Oh well, I'm going with it while it lasts! Merry Christmas to you and yours!
I think the farm nativities have helped me to stay in the spirit this year. I also find that making the time for holiday things---like local Christmas concerts, meeting up with friends, and playing Christmas songs in the house help to booster my holiday spirit.
No, it's me as well - most unusual for me - have also wondered if it's an age thing (and I'm much older than you). ^^ Love your Snowman!
Anni, I still love Christmas but it just does't feel like Christmas.
Gayle, a gradual letting go of earthly ways, that's an interesting thought. You are right that there is still lots of joy to be found.
Sandee I don't know if there will ever come a day when I don't decorate but I have cut way back from what I used to do.
Lin I don't know if it's my schedule or just that I live on a continuous loop between here and work but I haven't really heard of any holiday things going on that aren't too far away from home. I have been listening to a lot of Christmas music and watching movies. It's not that I don't enjoy Christmas it just doesn't have the same feeling that it used to.
It's been years since I decorated, but I love seeing what you do. I have a lot of joy in my life, but little of it is from Christmas. I turned 80 this year, so that probably has a lot to do with it! :)
For the record, I had read that their 70's are the happiest years of life for some people. That was true for me. I'm now going to see if I can extend that even further. Fingers crossed for us all!
I've not "done full on Christmas" for many decades. Nor do I buy/wrap presents, although I do have gift voucher in my purse which I get as a gift from my landlord (via the prop managers) which is actually for a store that is difficult for me to get to...so I gift it on :-)
I'm not good with the 25th...this year trying something vastly different! Going to lunch with 75% strangers - and around 16 people, of which, I only actually know 2 of the people!!!
But not one of them, knows I have difficulty with stuff that I need my hands to work properly for i.e. cutting up food, or even getting it on a fork. Apparently it's a buffet type meal, which is going to add another layer of stress as I can't truly manage to hold a plate and get it loaded.
I think my 2 friends are in for a bit of a shock...even though I tried to explain it all.
What I do at home, probably won't work there, but I never sit down to eat before I've made "whatever manageable" including using a pair of kitchen scissors to cut up things or my trusty serrated edge knife. Or I eat without the cutlery - "no one can see me here" :-)
CheerfulMonk The older I get the more I realize that the joy in life comes from the little things and very little comes from something that can be bought.
Catherine You are really stepping out of your comfort zone this year. I hope it goes well
I certainly wasn't in the mood after Thanksgiving but the spirit did arrive in my heart and I enjoyed our Christmas this year! What I found is that I need to start earlier with things like wrapping and baking because it all hit at once last minute which made for very long days.
