Itty bitty berries

I was out in the backyard recently and I noticed something red in the grass.

Of course I had to do some investigating and realized they were itty bitt little strawberries

I picked a few and took them inside for a little photo shoot.

If you are wondering, yes, I couldn't help myself and had to see how it tasted. I popped one in my mouth and promptly spit it back out because it tasted pretty disgusting.

We have a couple really small patches of these! I was never brave enough to taste any, but now you have done it for me! I guess they are wild strawberries.

You’re braver than I am but they did make pretty photos. Pretty little strawberries too.

We used to love wild strawberries on the land but haven't had any since the 2011 fire. It sounds as if you have mock strawberries, not the real wild ones: https://thepracticalplanter.com/can-you-eat-wild-strawberries/

It's odd they didn't taste good. I've eaten "wild" strawberries before and found them quite tasty. So I'm guessing that perhaps yours are a different kind. They sure are cute though.

Just checked it out and your have the "mock" variety. See this information: https://www.tasteofhome.com/article/mock-strawberry-plants/

They are all around our house. The birds love them.
