I pulled the post I had scheduled for today so that I could do an update post today.
First let me give you a rundown on the cast of characters.
Bill- was the store owner that passed away a few years ago
Judy-Bill's wife who then owned the store.
Marc- the son who was running the store
Alyssa- Marc's girlfriend who a couple months ago took over as manager of the store.
Yesterday I went to work 8-4. It was just me and the deli manager all day. Part way through the day, Marc and Alyssa came in to talk to us. Yesterday the store closed at 4:00. It was to be the last day. I had the choice to end it there or work Wednesday to help cook/bake anything remaining so it's ready for the liquidation sale that Marc is going to do at the end of the week. I chose to work one more day.
The store has been sold or at least Judy has accepted the offer from Marc and Alyssa's old boss. He owns a Japanese restaurant in Erie. The plans for the store are to continue as a grocery store with other services available. There will be a mix of old and new things being sold. All employees will be offered a job but at this time I have no idea what the terms of that offer will be. It will be a month or so though due to renovations they will be doing on the building.
So what am I going to do? Well I have an interview today at a day care center in the next town over. It's about 15 miles away. The pay isn't great and it's more travel than what I'm used to. I'm not sure I really want it. I would like to accept the offer from the new store owner but will have to wait to see exactly what that will be. For the time being, I am going to apply for unemployment (for the very first time in my life) and just enjoy a little time off. Maybe I'll finally get some things done around the house.
That pretty much sums up where I am right now. We're also supposed to have an employee meeting on Wednesday but I think that might be for the benefit of the people who weren't there yesterday to hear the news.
Send a few prayers my way that this will all work out and I'll be able to work in the same place until I'm ready for retirement when I turn 65.

That's better news than I expected. Thank you so much for the update. Yes, plenty of prayers that it works out for you. Thank goodness for unemployment insurance, you deserve some time off!
I will be praying about this. It is good news, though! And maybe with your expertise, you will remain in the bakery and the pay will be the same or more.
I am praying for you to make the right decision. IF this were ME, ha ha I would wait until i saw the offer, because its walking distance if you get snowed in, no gas prices involved and last but not least, Day Care Work Stinks. I did it and hated it.. 15 miles in snow? NO NO... you knew i would have advicem signing off as the Mad Advice Giver.. love you and praying this will work out andyou can stay where you have been for 28 years. they need you and they don't know it
Praying this works out for you Ann. Whatever decision you make, I wish you only the very best. Thanks for the update. Keeping fingers and toes crossed too.
Hopefully, things will work out as you wish, with your (new) job close to home and familiar workmates.
Good for you taking the unemployment for a while. (I've never done that either) You deserve a break and it gives you time to see what the new owner is offering. I'm one mile from work so I know the benefits of that. Enjoy your week.
Ann well I guess the good news is now you KNOW and can move forward looking after yourself. I do send lots of prayers for a new and better opportunity to present itself to you . I agree with applying for unemployment give yourself time to think without pressure.
Hugs Cecilia
Well, the "new" store sounds promising. Daycare....I don't know. I'm just thinking you will be exposed to a lot of germs and you may get sick a lot. Plus, the distance...which with the snow may not be good. I hope you get a decent offer from the new place. I'm glad you are collecting the unemployment. You've paid into it...use it!
Yay? Oh please skip the daycare - 15 miles? And yes, I worked in day care also - maybe cancel that interview - not happy places and a lot of physical work. Wait for the new owner and his offer. You have skills and experience - hell you would be better off at any other grocery store. Here's hoping for a good offer from the new owners. 💜
P.S. - Full retirement age for SS is 66 - https://www.ssa.gov/prepare/plan-retirement but medicare is 65...
I was a daycare teacher long ago in one of my past lives. Loved it, but it was exhausting...and I was much younger. Wouldn't want to do it now--lol! Especially after covid has entered the equation. I would be very curious as to what the new store has to offer, for sure. It's good you have some time to sit back and think about everything for a while. :)
Prayers for you Ann as God leads you toward the plans that He has for your future. Blessing and I do pray God's favor on you.
Oh Ann I just sent up a prayer that everything works out well. Changes are always hard and scary but in the end with God's help all things will work out good for you friend. In the meantime - keep the faith. Hugs!
Prayers that you find what works for you. What a shame after all these years.
Have a fabulous day and week, my friend. Big hug to you and lots of scritches to Gibbs. ♥
I'll send prayers too. For the right decision. But if you ask me - take the unemployment and then see what the store offers you!
Good luck and stay warm.
Praying for you and your decisions too. My morning devotions this morning said.." I know the plans I have for you, and they are good"
Sounds like filing for unemployment is the best current option and waiting until you hear what is on the table with the new owner's plans.
(((hugs)))
