On Friday 1/29 I opened my Facebook to read about my niece passing away 2 days before.
She had been diagnosed with a rare form of cancer a while back and has been battling that for a while. I did get a call from my son several days before she passed saying that she had been put into hospice and that she had been given the last rites.
Kara Lee Surovick Obituary
Kara Lee Surovick, 40, of Williamsport, PA, passed away on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, at The Gatehouse UPMC Hospice, in Williamsport.
She was born December 15, 1985, a daughter of Michael F. and Mary E. (Dobson) Surovick.
Kara Lee graduated from Northwestern High School and went on to further her education at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, where she studied culinary arts and earned an associate’s degree. During her studies, she was selected for an externship at Emeril’s in Las Vegas, where she continued learning and refining her skills for the following year.
Her love of food and nutrition remained constant throughout her life. Kara Lee took great joy in preparing wonderfully flavorful and expressive meals for her family and friends. Each year she planned and cultivated a large vegetable and herb garden, carefully selecting plants well before spring with future meals in mind. She canned a significant amount of produce annually and took exceptional pride in caring for her house plants, which flourished under her attention.
During the summer months, she also maintained a beautifully manicured flower garden that brought her immense joy. With her hands in the soil, she created and nurtured a love of growing things that lasted her lifetime.
Her professional life also reflected her passion for nutrition, having worked with Jenny Craig. Later, Kara Lee followed in her father’s footsteps and was welcomed into the Local 81 and Local 420 Carpenter and Joiners Union. She was also a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. Her work was primarily in the commercial sector, where she was known as a loyal and hardworking woman until her health required her full attention.
Kara Lee was a past member of the Girard American Legion Post #494 and the Loyal Order of the Moose #381/481.
She was preceded in death by her father, Michael F. Surovick; her sister, Rachelle M. Surovick; her maternal grandparents, Phyllis and William Dobson; her paternal grandparents, Michael J. Surovick and Wilda DaSilva; and her uncles, William and Paul Dobson.
She will be greatly missed by her family, including her mother, Mary Surovick; her aunts, Rosemary Dobson, Susan McFarland (Edward), and Ann Thompson; her uncles, George Dobson (Terri) and Edward Dobson (Carolyn); her nephews, Kyle Juhasz Jr. and Royce Juhasz; cousins, Damien Dobson, Hunter Dobson, Kim Garbrandt, Ben Dobson, Katie (John) Berry, Bran (Brit) Johnson, Amanda (Rob) Kelly, and Ronda Denning; and her boyfriend and his daughters, Chris Caccia, Hannah and Abby.
