Feeding the hungry

There is an old guy who visits the garbage can outside our office every day. He will dig through looking for food. The one manager that comes from out of town said that she'll put the leftovers from her lunch on the top of the garbage can for him to get.

I dug through my cupboards looking for things I could leave him. The only think I came up with was a big bag of animal crackers that I bought for Presley only to find out she didn't like them. I filled a ziplock bag with them and left them on the top of the garbage can when I got to work. While I was sitting there a young guy walked past, saw the baggie, picked it up, checked it out and then walked off with them. The next day I took another baggie full and waited a little longer before I put them out.

The old man came by that day and he took my baggie of animal crackers and some french fries that the other girl left for him.

I'm going to make a point of finding things that I can leave him. Maybe even fill a bag once a week with food that won't spoil.

You touch my heart. I know how it feels to be so hungry and have nothing to eat. A long time ago, when we had no money to buy food, I used to survive on leftovers. Those were really rough times, and even now we can still see many people suffering from starvation. Feeding people in need is a great act of kindness, and I truly appreciate it.
