Stress test day

Last Wednesday, March 11th, I took the day off work for my stress test. My appointment was for 8;30 which was good because I wasn't allowed to have anything to eat or drink before the test.

I got there and they hooked me up for the IV and sent me back to the waiting room. They were doing a couple of them so we took turns going in and then coming back out to the waiting room.

My next time in was for pictures. The tech who did this was so nice and cracked jokes most of the time. He carried my purse back and forth to the waiting room and he said that he carries more purses than most straight men.

I was thrilled when they brought me a cup of coffee. I think I drank it extra fast. The tech said he would only charge me $10 but the price went up to $20 during the conversation. He said that people desperate for coffee will pay anything

They took the coffee away, had me walk the treadmill at a slow pace for 1 minute then sent me back to the waiting room. My last trip back was for more pictures. Then I was on my way.

The doctor called me that evening and said that there was nothing serious enough to require immediate attention but they did see a narrowing of one of the arteries. I'm supposed to get a CT scan which is the least invasive procedure but sometimes the insurance companies won't approve that. In that case then it will be a cathetarization.  As I write this I haven't gotten a call from the hospital yet to schedule that. Will keep everyone updated on the progress though.

Wow, I had pictured you having to run on the treadmill till you dropped! Will this be a regular C.T. or the special Cardiac C.T.? There is a difference. I recently had the cardiac one. In fact, I'm going to my cardiologist in the morning for blood work. I am praying for all of their decisions!!

I'm glad you had a thorough check-up. Mine is coming up next month and I'm already dreading it.

prayers for the coming tests and you are brave, Bob hated his stress test so much he has refused to do one every year. he did nothing but complain and now 3 years later still fusses about the stress test. I did not tell you that before yours and it seems yours was not as BAD as his.. ha ha ha

Here's hoping you can have the CT scan instead of the catheritization. I can't imagine why the insurance wouldn't approve that, but there is no predicting what they approve or don't. Keeping you in my thoughts, Ann.

Insurance is such a pain to deal with.
I'm glad your stress test went well and that you had a good tech. Humor during things like this really does make you feel better about it all. I'll be keeping you in my thoughts that all goes well.

It's all sounding quite positive, which is all to the good. Prevention is better than cure, and it's something UK is slow in adopting.

Ann Medical personnel with a sense of humor are jewels
Personally I think folks in the testing facilities should be required to have huge gifts of gab and know how to calm patients.
Good luck

I was waiting for the treadmill run too. That's what I had to do. I thought I was going to pass out, but all was well. I was happy when it was over. Hope this is an easy fix and that your insurance will cover what's needed.

Have a fabulous day and week, Ann. Big hug to you and lots of scritches to Gibbs. ♥

I'm so glad that the first tests went so well with nothing urgent to deal with. Hope you can get the CT scan done and it will be covered by insurance.
I love when the tech. people can ease the tests with a sense of humor and chattiness.

Hope all goes well. Why did they give you an IV? Did they give you medication to speed up your heart? When I had a stress test I just walked on the treadmill for about 10 minutes.

Only 1 minute on the treadmill, doesn't seem like much. I had the nuclear test so never walked on the treadmill.
They gave me a coke because I don't like coffee.

Well, I had a stress test about 20 yrs ago, and thought something is weird, because it was only a minute or so, too...but now that you say that was how yours was...maybe it wasn't. I hope they find nothing serious with the CT scan.

I hope it remains nothing serious. Funny about the cuppa being upwards of twenty smackers.
