Officially Labor Day is the day each year that we pay tribute to the accomplishments and achievements of the American worker. Mostly it's a day for picnics and celebrate the end of summer.
When I think of Labor Day the first thing that comes to mind is the Jerry Lewis Labor Day Telethon. So many years I would tune in throughout Sunday night and Monday to check on the years total donations as well as enjoying the entertainment portions of the show. When I was growing up there were always back yard carnivals to help raise money. Kids would take the money they collected and vie for a spot on tv during the local cut away. Ronald McDonald was always there to ask each child how much they had raised.
Happy Labor Day to all of you in the U.S. and happy Monday to everyone living in other parts of the world

Happy Labor Day, Ann! hugs to Duke :)
enjoy your day off, at least i hope you have it off. i know in retail labor day does not mean a day off. I was raised in a family in the south and we observed no holidays, just Christmas, Easter and Thanksgiving. Bob was raised in the north and his family observed all holidays.
Happy day off Ann! Hope you're enjoying the long weekend!
Happy Labor Day you two. Jerry Lewis showed amazing dedication to the MD cause; particularly when you consider how fleeting the attention span when it comes to most stars. For anyone who thinks one person can't make a difference, Mr. Lewis can point to two billion reasons why they can (and if that isn't a mind-boggling amount of money, I don't know what is ;o)
Happy Labor day, sis!
I hope you have a wonderful Labor day! Rest up and snuggle with Duke.
I was never a Jerry Lewis fan but respect must be given for the work he did for MD...He never publicly said why he devoted himself to this particular cause...
Happy Labour Day Ann...can anybody else really have a happy Monday unless it's a holiday though??
Happy Labor day to you and yours too Ann. My very best to Duke. :)
I remember all those too - have a good labor day.
...what a happy memory you've shared, and I too remember this. Jerry Lewis was the epitome of the Labor Day weekend for TV to be sure. I was always amazed and boggled with the pledged donation totals each year.
Oh, and can't leave without commenting on Chip and Dale------so precious.
Happy Labor Day to you! My dad was always on the fire department when I was growing up so I went along on numerous MD boot drives at intersections around Topeka, KS. I didn't even know Jerry Lewis was still doing the telethons though. I wish they'd find a cure soon!
Do they still do the telethon? I didn't bother to check the TV today. That was HUGE when we were younger. Imagine how much money Jerry raised over the years!
I hope you had a nice Labor Day! I do remember watching the Jerry Lewis telethons and the back yard events to raise money.
Hope you had the day off and do something enjoyable.
Hope you had a great Labor Day Ann!
I agree, Jerry's telethons have always been a big part of this holiday. My MIL passed away, almost 20 years ago, from ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease. My family appreciates all Jerry has done to keep this disease in the spotlight.
