I've been baking bells.
Yes, you read that right. I've been baking bells.
Cheap dollar store jingle bells to be exact. I took those brand new shiny bells and made them look old and grubby.
A tray just coming out of the oven. This is actually the second batch. The first ones I did were an antique white with cinnamon sprinkled on.
You mix glue with the paint color of your choice, sprinkle on some cinnamon and then pop them in the oven until they're dry, flip them over and do the other side
The cinnamon makes them look a bit rusty. Now I know not everyone is fond of the look of rust but it works for primitive and rustic crafting.
These will eventually be used in various other projects.

Hilarious, what will you think of next, I always like finding out. Did you think of this yourself?
Is this part of plan to keep Wade from sneaking up on you?
I had no idea you could do that! These are great for rustic crafts. Looking forward to seeing what you'll make with these :)
My oven? Believe it or not, I do not cook very often...so I use it to store my pots and pans!! :)
Now, tell me...does your kitchen smell all delicious...like cinnamon???
This is an exciting idea! I just may have to try it!! Thanks Ann!
Very creative idea. It will be fun to see what projects you use these bells in.
what's an oven??? LOL LOL... it really does make them look really old.. i bet the white is pretty to, and red would be nice.. have fun using them... waiting to see what you create
Well now....this is such a unique [and wonderful] idea. My question is...even mixing it with glue, do they still have the light fragrance of cinnamon? It'd be super for a holiday decoration then.
I dust my oven!
Hmmmmm
Hope Wade doesn't try one thinking heres a snack.LOL
Interesting. Don't breathe the paint fumes, OK?
I love your baking style! On one of your articles you were baking ornaments from cinnamon. Right after that I bought about 6 jars of cinnamon. They still sit in my pantry. I'm going to make them this year for sure!
So that's how you make new bells look old. Who knew? Too cute.
Have a fabulous day. My very best to Duke. ♥♥♥
Ann, this is a fabulous tip. Thank you for cluing us in on it . . . I love the old rusty look and did not know that you could do this. I would love to see the antique white ones, too:) How about it, in your next post.
Have a fun day!
Your blogging sister, Connie :)
On my blog feed today I had two posts about rusty bells. Clearly this rust thing is contagious! Here is the other one Ann if you would like to sneak a peek http://www.livecreativelyinspired.com/diy-rust/

I prefer to bake things that need frosting so can honestly say I've never, ever thought of baking bells! LOL!
These look great, Ann. I have never heard of this technique. I've got some vintage metal snowflakes that would look better with this rusty look :)
Well---I'll admit that I've baked and burned ALOT of things in my lifetime---but can't say that I have ever baked any BELLS... ha
Creative people are just so talented....
Hugs,
Betsy
I love how creative you are!
No wonder you're tired!!! Flipping all those bells...LOL!...:)JP
Thanks for the rain!
They look good enough to eat! have a great weekend ... katie
Fabulous idea Ann, so much easier (and less toxic!) than trying to rust them in a vinegar/bleach solution. I can see baking bells in my future for my primitive projects! Thanks for sharing and thank you for visiting my blog, glad to have found yours!
Oh cool! Wondering what projects these will fit into. For the Christmas tree? Tied with red ribbons, or in wreaths? Can't wait to see!!
Wow, that is really a neat thing to do and certainly different. I like that a lot. Hope you have a great week.
Nope , have to say I haven't ever had bells baking .lol
Then again I threw my oven/stove out several years ago when I swore off cooking ~ ha !
OMG that is so neat! I love the rustic look! I hope you show us what you make with all these!
