Christmas in July

I was curious about how the whole Christmas in July thing got started. Plus I didn't know what else to blog about. I did a search and got my answer.

Apparently it all started in 1933 at a girls camp in North Carolina. That year it was celebrated at the request of camp co-founder Fannie Holt who was said to have been quite a character. The information came from THIS website.

I think I've always assumed that it was something that retailers made up to boost sales.

In July that is.

I read the article in the link. How cute and clever with when they thought it up all those years ago and how it still carries on to this day! Thanks for sharing it with us!

I read the article and had no idea of any of this. I had never heard of Christmas in July until the ads started popping up on TV down here. I am thinking no one had heard of it except the ones that went to that camp. and the advertisers started to use the idea as soon as there was internet and cable TV. just a thought. very interesting.

I always just figured it was another way for retailers to make more money...

That's very interesting. You would think it was all about retailers but it wasn't.

Interesting, didn't know that. I too assumed it was retailers.

I had always assumed it was retailers, too. I was hoping you woukd see and find interesting stuff at the craft fair yesterday. At least you found something when you shopped elsewhere.

Here in New Zealand (MID YEAR)- (not all over the country) winter is often snowy and cold, just like your Christmas in December. Our December is summer time
