So the last time I went to the doctors and had blood work done they told me my cholesterol was high and I needed to bring it down or possibly be put on cholesterol medication. I would prefer not to take another prescription so I'm working on bring it down by changing my diet. I go back 6 weeks from my last time to have the blood work rechecked.
So now, I'm eating lots of vegies, cut out sweets, one cup of coffee a day and no pop. I'm also trying to add more fish. I've discovered that I really like cut up vegies like cucumber, tomato, green pepper with some beans and italian dressing.
Breakfast has been limited since I'm not eating as much eggs and I've cut out sausage. I decided to give overnight oats a try.
I only mixed up two small jars. The first jar I tried was just kind of disgusting. I couldn't finish it. The second one I took to work and added some cinnamon and applesauce. It was better. I think I just need to get the right combination of flavors to make it more appealing.
I joined a group on Facebook for high cholesterol thinking it would give lots of food ideas and maybe some recipes but mostly they just talk about numbers. I have read that things to eat are hummus, tofu, chia seed, salmon and a couple other things that I can't remember. The problem is, although I'm not a picky eater, I won't eat those things with the exception of salmon.
On the bright side, I lost 6 pounds since I changed my eating habits.

It sounds as if you are on the right track! Please let us know how it goes.
I really have to hand it to you for going all out to lower it!! I have found the overnight oats to vary between O.K. to awful. I have been taking a statin drug for many years; so has Phil. I think I would rather take a pill a day and eat what I want. But your way is much healthier for your entire body!
The lising weight has git to feel good. That is at least encouraging.
Yay FOR YOU ANN!!
Keep of the good work. Thankful I don't drink soft drinks or sweet tea (I love sweet tea but gave that up many years ago). I drink coffee black. I try to WATCH sweets and breads. Cooking for two makes things a bit more challenging. Thus far I do manage to ONLY EAT one serving at supper.
Keep us posted

Ah, genetics! Often high cholesterol has a genetic component - if it runs in your family you can live on air and it will be there. Regular ole coffee is not going to affect your cholesterol - all those fancy schmancy ones will. So it's really a matter of cutting out fats and exchanging 'bad' fats for good ones. It's the butter that's going to kill ya! And the veggies are good for you in any case.
You need to investigate your bloodwork numbers. If your good cholesterol is in a good place, you might be able to look at red yeast rice capsules along with COQ10 capsules to counter balance the sluggish feeling you may get from the red yeast rice. Ask your doctor about that FIRST before going on statins. You don't want to be on statins. Both my primary dr. and my nutritionist highly recommend the red yeast rice capsules. My numbers went down immediately using these since my diet and exercise were already in a good place. Mine was starting to creep due to genetics.
Congratulations on the 6 pound loss..that's a win/win.
The numbers will come down but it's more about just eating right and healthier. You can do it!!

Good for you. I brought mine down by changing my eating habits. I do love hummus and salmon. I had lost 25 pounds after several months. However I am still a little high and I can't take statins, they don't agree with me. I am on something now that isn't a statin but only take it 3 days a week. Nature Made also has a product that can help with cholesterol. I'm getting blood work done on the 9th.
That’s great that you are losing weight. The holidays are always a challenge. I like a bowl of hot oatmeal but have never tried overnight oats.
Sounds like good eating anyway!!
Great about the weight loss.
Walking would help bring those numbers down too. :)
I love overnight oats. I add coffee creamer to mine. I need to go on a diet but I don't want to.
