what's on your windowsill?

First of all I was always under the assumption that windowsill was 2 words. I wasn't sure if I was spelling it right so I went to check. The free dictionary and merriam-webster both have it as one word while wikipedia has it as two.
The reason for my post though is a jar that was sitting on one of mine.

Prim crafting uses a lot of rusty bells and pins but try and find any of that stuff in the stores. The cheap and easy way is to rust them yourself. I've read several different ways but I opted for the less toxic version. First you put the items in a jar and cover with bleach and let sit for a day. Dump out the bleach, pour in apple cider vinegar and a good helping of salt and let sit for another day. On the third day you dump the pieces out and let them dry. They continue to rust as they are drying.
The first bath I did worked really well. This second bath didn't rust as well

So, when Arlynda says that is she is going to spray me down with vinegar, she's not being romantic?

If we don't want it to rust ~ it will! If we do ~ it won't!

So that's how that's done. Now I know. Way cool and I see you're marching forward on all your crafts. Your show is going to be awesome.

Have a terrific day. My best to Duke. ☺

About this time of year (most years) we have some fresh tomatoes on our windowsill. BUT--we haven't found any local ones yet this year. Guess the rains have done some damage to the tomato crop... OR---maybe they are just late.

I will laugh about deliberately making things RUST.... Since I am not a craft person, I will say that I've never done that...ha ha

Hugs,
Betsy

I've heard of adding patina to things but not intentionally rusting something so now you have me curious as to what you're up to!

I'm gonna guess they didn't rust like you wanted them too because the metal content in pins and such is so low. They use a cheaper quality that doesn't rust as well. We learned about that when we went to recycle our chain link fence--the actual metal content is low--it's all a mix now and it's a cruddy mix because metal is so expensive.

Well, if I ever come upon a stash of rusty stuff that has just gotten that way over time, I'll know who to send it to!
