This was after the cement was finally poured. Now I have to say here that when I first mentioned this idea of putting in a cement slab, someone wasn't all that impressed with the idea. Now that it's all finished and we've been out there enjoying it he's changed his tune.
That black on the foundation of the house has since been painted over with a nice gray color and it looks much more attractive.
Here we go, all finished. Steps are in and the bottom of the deck is enclosed. Notice the chiminea. We absolutely love that and spend most weekend evenings out there. Wade stays out later than I do and the one night he fell asleep on the swing.
Originally we had planned on putting a railing around the patio area with a gate . That way that area would be totally enclosed and it would allow Duke to have a little more freedom outside without having to be tied. Since that's no longer necessary it was left open.

What an awesome addition, Ann with nice space to enjoy that fire!!!...:)JP
Wow....this is all so much work, and your work is making your back yard so very attractive.
That sure does look like a nice addition. It is all looking really good. Great place to have some good food outside. Have a great Tuesday.
What a great place to relax!
That swing does look inviting :)
That's a very nice deck and patio! We have that chimnea. Unfortunately, we are in close proximity to most of our neighbors so we don't fire it up too often. One has her door open a lot, and another one complained about the smoke blowing into her bedroom one time, so we try to be good about it. Oh, we will use it, just not all the time. :)
The concrete will allow some nice fires. I have a big fireplace I enjoy sitting around, or just use it for lawn refuse. Maybe a roof over this for days you don't want to be in the sun or rain.
What a nice place to sit and enjoy the Fall air.
I LOVE IT.. especially the FIRE BOX thingy... can't spell that word. you know i love fire and swings.. i want a slab just like yours.. i want a fire thingy... the deck looks fantastic..
Yep, this is a lovely way to spend warm summer nights. Okay, it's got to be pretty cold not to enjoy. I love it.
Have a fabulous day my friend. ♥♥♥
Good thing someone listened to you because that's an awesome addition! Looks fabulous Ann! Great idea! :)
Looks marvelous - but maybe you should re-consider the railing and gate - there might be another puppy in your future...
This is just wonderful! I wish we had something like it.
HI Ann, I just read two blog posts --and will comment on both of them here. Love reading about the white butterflies.. I had the same experience after my Mom died... I was at a retreat and was sitting alone on a swing thinking about Mama... A beautiful butterfly flew right up to me and I just 'felt' as if it was Mom.... Amazing, huh? SO--I'm sure that was Duke... How special is that!!! He's telling you that he is fine...
Now--on to this blog. I LOVE what you all have done to your deck/patio... AWESOME... I'm sure you will enjoy it ALOT especially this time of year and in Spring.... LOVE it. Congrats.
Hugs,
Betsy
The patio was a smart addition! I'm glad that "someone" finally became convinced. He probably tells people that it was his idea now, LOL. It looks cozy and wonderful!
Looks like you have been busy! Excellent job!

This looks great Ann...I love the swing and the chiminea!
Oh, I bet you will enjoy having a deck and patio. :) Enjoy yourself!
I think of you a lot. Still sending hugs your way!
It looks great! I love the fireplace. You are going to enjoy a lot of evenings out there. Day times too!
That really looks nice, Ann!
Very nice! I would be sitting outside every night too! I always wanted a chiminea.
So, are you planning on never letting your next pup leave the house?
Oh, it look great! I know I would really enjoy sitting there. I pick the swing and chances are I will nod off too :)
It looks like a lovely space to sit. One day I may even get mine finished!
