Yesterday I finally did something crafty. Maybe my craft room has been clean long enough. Although I did pretty good at putting everything away after I was done.
I pulled out the sewing machine
I've been wanting to try free motion embroidery for a long time and I finally decided to do it. Free motion embroidery is kind of like drawing with your sewing machine. First to get a feel for it I just moved the hoop around and scribbled on the fabric. Then I cut out some felt pieces and outlined them on the machine to make an acorn.
Next I drew a a pumpkin shape. As an experiment I shaded it with markers. The reason the colors are running is because I also decided to see what it would do if I sprayed it with water and then I tried spraying it with alcohol. Now I know what it does. It makes a mess
Oh and to answer the question why did I do it? Well...
I've also been wanting to try making some fabric postcards and I thought I could turn this into one. I still need some practice but I think this could be fun. Now I just need to come up with some designs to do.

Here, kitty kitty!!
This will be fun for you...AND for us to see what you come up with, with your ideas and creations.
Keep going Ann, these will be so much fun. I was never brave enough to try this so you can do it for me.
As soon as I saw that machine I thought, Oh Brother.Watched a lady doing this on a towel last night at the farmers market
Practice makes perfect but in free motion it doesn't need to be perfect - that's the beauty of it.
Happy sewing - K
I do just because stuff all the time. It's fun and it's because I want to and I can.
Have a fabulous day. Big hug to you and lots of scritches to Gibbs. ♥♥♥
the postcard idea sounds really cute! "just because" is a favorite of mine. :)
Ann, you are going to love free motion embroidery, it is so much fun . . . the more you do it the better control you will have. I like how the colors ran when you sprayed them, looks like water colors, soft and pretty. Keep your speed lever on slow to medium and try things like writing your name :)
Most of all Have Fun!!!
That's what it's all about.
Connie :)
P.S. We might have the same machine :)
I can't draw a straight line with a ruler or thread a needle or....anything. I love your creative, crafty mind!
I think this is tricky, I have done it and all the leaves on my tree were done on the machine but I am yet to really master it. You look like you have the knack.

I'm so rubbish with a sewing machine I wouldn't even attempt this. I'm curious to see the fabric postcards.
I actually like the running colors :D
Looks like you are having fun with your experimentations - can't wait to see what else you do :)
The secret is to get just the right speed. Too slow and you get big chunky jumps. Too fast and you are just outta control.
Can you adjust the tension on your bobbin? If so, you can use delicate decorative threads in the bobbin and work upside down. That way, the sparkly cool threads are usable in your machine. Otherwise, they are too delicate to go through the regular thread feed.
Don't ask how I know all this. I used to be a quilter in my before life.
You continue to amaze me. What fun this was. Glad you felt crafty. Too cute!
