A Personal Photo Challenge

I'm joining in on the fun over at A Personal Photo Challenge. It's a brand new blog started by Donna from Cottage Days and Journeys. The topic for the month is black and white photography.

I dug in to the archives for this one because I waited till the last minute to put this together and I'm far from inspired when it comes to taking pictures lately.
I won't give you the details of this picture since it's really not very good.

Using photoshop elements I added two adjustment layers. One for the saturation and another for the levels.

I prefer the black and white version over the color but I couldn't stop there. I had to add some texture to finish out the look

Now if I was really ambitious I would clone out those power lines but it's not happening.

A big thanks to Donna for starting this up. I look forward to next month's challenge

That looks like fun! Great challenge photo. I have tried and failed with photoshop...just don't have the patience...I do use MyMemories Suite software and that is challenge enough for me!! That, and my iphone of course!! Happy Weekend!!

I like the third photo the best. The middle building really looks out of place in the first two shots as it has obviously recently been done up. With the last picture however the texture you added has brought it all in together so none of the buildings look either too shabby or to new. May be you'll take the power lines out next time Ann. Great editing!

I like the third photo, it looks very dynamic with those textures.

Oh, those are great! I really like b/w photography!

Love the finished photo. The power lines do kinda kill the image; but I'm with you - they'd be a real pain in the patootie to "erase" ;o)

Yeah, it might be wise to not mess with trying to remove live electric lines.

Hmmmmm, I think it gives the image much more character with the power lines. What great depth this took after making it monotones. Excellent.

Well, I like them All! Maybe the middle one better? I don't know...Hahaaa...Your work is Always pretty Miz Ann!
Happy Weekend!

Very interesting, though I'm such a juvenile that I still prefer the color shot. Thank you for the tips about what you did.

Love the texture that you added. That's my favorite version of it.

Very nice! Actually, they're all very good. :)

I like them all. I like the one with color since the others look dark and dismal. I don't think the wires are a problem at all. Have a great week end.

What a wonderful transformation! Buildings are usually good candidates for B&W treatment, and when they are vintage, all the better! I really like how you darkened up the tone of the second building to provide contrast between the two lighter ones. And the contrast brings out the texture of the old bricks too. The texture layer was the whip cream and cherry on top! Now we all feel like we've been transported back in time! And the American flag peeking out of the edge is a whimsical touch. Love it, Miz Ann!

the color one is just a blah building, the black and white takes away the blah, the texture makes it beautiful and ART... love that last one.
you don't have to clone the lines, in pse 10 use the spot healing brush, make it the size of the lines, a little bigger and drag it accross and it will magically disappear. it even removes unwanted people

I like all three...but do think the third one is art. :)

I really love the last photo...wires and all!

I prefer the black and white to the colour as well, it kind of pushes all that stuff/junk to the background. Of course, my favourite is after you added the texture.
Oh, to be so talented; I must study my manual.

I think the third is interesting because it almost looks like you added a storm - with the dark clouds . sandie

I like the third photo too - but woujldn't be fun to leave a bit of the color in - like the awning and the balloons...

I like #2 best. My photo editing skills are minimal so I may not appreciate what you did to #3. My last attempt at Photoshop was a dismal failure. I just don't have the patience. Well Done!

First of all I love these old style buildings. The photos are beautiful in all 3 styles. I think you did a great job on them. Pamela

I actually like the second one best. Even though it's in black and white it looks bright like a sunny day. :) Really cool stuff, Ann!:)

Woof! Woof! COOL! Mom loves photography and always wants to join a hop. This is a good one ... Golden Thanks Ann. Mom got photoshop but she needs to learn more to use all the features. We like the way you added the texture. Lots of Golden Woofs, Sugar

I liked seeing the different stages you took this photo...I really like the last one with texture! (Sandra is right the spot or blemish correction works miracles in a snap.) Enjoy your day!
