Why wasn't I consulted

Imagine my surprise yesterday when I opened my Google reader only to see

Google Reader will be retired on July 1, 2013. If you'd like to download a copy of all your Reader data before then, you can do so through Google Takeout. You'll receive your subscription data in an XML file, and the following information will be downloaded as JSON files:

I don't remember anyone asking me if that was ok. Let me tell you why I like using Google reader. I already spend far too much time on my computer. Without reader I would have to go to every blog I like to keep up with to find out if there is a new post or not. That would require even more time. There are some blog that I read but don't comment on. They are seriously huge blogs with a bazillion comments already so my two cents aren't really worth much. I do like to see what they are doing though. With reader I can see at a glance whether or not I want to go take a closer look.

Now what? I found an article that gave some alternatives but I'm not sure what I'm going to do yet.

Oh woe is me.

How cute Duke is today! Google reader was on the news tonight. I use my sidebar, it tells me what blogs are new or not, I just scroll down and do one after the other.

Duke does look very 'woeful' in that picture Ann...I guess he feels your pain!! I have never used goggle reader. I have a bloglist within bloger which puts to the top those that have posted most recently so I always use this for checking. Hope you find something to suit you soon though. Being a creature of habit I know what it's like to have something you love that works for you suddenly taken away!

I didn't know this!
I have the blogs that I read daily in my sidebar, so that helps!
Duke really does look quite woeful in the photo ;-)

i freaked out to, but then after emailing with TexWisGirl we both signed up with Feedly.. it is even better than reader and that is why i use reader, the same reason you do...

Yep... kind of makes you wonder how long it will be before Google gets rid of free blogs too. I don't trust them.

I noticed that a few days ago - sucks because while my old blogger blog is basically all the blogs in my reader I wonder how long that will last - I too tried Feedly but didn't like it since it only shows updates - sometimes I like to check back on a blog even if it hasn't updated...

I tell you change is hard - life is so full of them too. I agree with you though I am going to five things a look! Love, sandie

I'm not happy about this either Duke. I'm working on setting up Feedly and am hoping that works for me. I too don't want to have to sift through 93 blogs each day looking for new content.

Have a woof woof day Duke. My best to your mom. ☺

I am trying real hard to not get real upset over the impending demise of Google Reader. For I have been using it for years, and I just discovered the other day where I could share stuff on Google+ through it. I added an RSS Feed Reader for Chrome, but I am not liking it very much at all. I plan on trying out some other ones in the new future, and I have Google- percolating in my brain for publishing soon. The link to the Chrome Reader is https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/rss-feed-reader/pnjaodmkngahhkoihejjehlcdlnohgmp?hl=en

I didn't know Google Reader will tetire...it will be inconvenient. But I sometimes use sidebar, so it won't be too bad. I hope you find good alternative you like!

Thanks to Sandra, I now have FEEDLY... It's pretty good although I'm still getting used to it. The nice thing is that it puts an icon on your toolbar --and you can go in there without even going into Blogger... Check it out. (Free download)

Hugs,
Betsy

I know, I didn't get that notice. I just go by my blog List. Is that the Blogger reader??
It will be a pain. So what are the alternatives?? I sure would like to know.

Nobody told me until you did! Now I'm in a quandary! What to do, Duke??

I got the same notice but haven't looked into it. I really like using Google for the same reason you do. Maybe I will wait until you find a really good substitute and then I will use it as well ;)

I never learned how to use Google Reader so I use the blog roll on my blog. It helps to be technologically challenged sometimes!

I have no clue what it is. I check out other blogs through my blog. Duke is such a good son. He felt your frustration.

I have no idea what I will do! I don't like changes like this.LOL

I saw the news and I figured there would be a lot of unhappy folks about the discontinuation of the Reader service. I don't use it, but fans are going to mourn the loss. Goggle is trying hard to push everyone to the Google+ platform and I just don't want to go there.

To put if gently and lady-like...it's a pain in the ass.

Don't you just hate it when they change stuff! Sigh... Change is not always for the better.
