Not everybody loves me
A week or so ago I had a customer complaint about me. I saw him standing there holding out a white cream filled chocolate iced donut. Picture is for simulation.
I heard the deli manager say to him no we don't have anymore so I walked over and asked if there was something I could help him with. I didn't quite catch what he was saying but I told him no I'm sorry I don't have anymore of those donuts with the maple frosting. He said something else again I didn't quite catch and I said oh did you mean you wanted a container of the maple frosting? His response was "well I suppose I can scrape it off myself and put the maple on if you want to just give me a container." Then I said oh I'm sorry you wanted me to just scrape it off and put maple on it. And then I added "I'm sorry, I wasn't catching what you were asking for. " I didn't hear him say it but the deli manager said that he said I don't appreciate people putting words in my mouth. Then I heard later on that after he left the deli bakery area he went up front and complained about me. Some days I feel like I can't do anything right

Good grief!!! We have a hard time hearing things now, and have to ask and ask. Soft talkers annoy me! They should know that most seniors don't hear well! You weren't trying to put words in his mouth, you were trying to ask and understand what the heck he wanted!!

you did what I would do, try to understand what is said, and for you repeat back. would worry about. humans are getting worse by the day
I dont think you did anything wrong...he was just not speaking loud enough, and was asking for special treatment anyway.
I've learned some people are just miserable and complain about everything and expect special treatment. You did nothing wrong.
He was just being the idiot. You did nothing wrong but try to understand what he wanted!

That's a dreadful thing to do! Definitely got up on the wrong side of life. Not nice to take his bad disposition out on you, and you were so nice too.
How rude he was and you were being so nice!!
Should have said loudly, Speak Up!
Blow him off! I have NO patience for complainers (Kevins) or (Karens)...all they want is attention! Rude!!

You were polite and kind and I hope that comforts your heart! I feel sorry for that guy's heart....
You know you can please some of the people some of the time but you can't please all of the people all of the time. - This one sounds like one of those!
