Experimenting with fabric

I already showed you the hexagon mat that I made. I did another one though using Christmas fabrics and made it bigger.

Excuse the bad picture. It was later in the evening and bad light in the cave. Any way, I liked this except not crazy about how the outer rings fabric looks. The pattern of the fabric not matching on the strips kind of annoys my OCD. I like the fabric itself with the other two it's just that one little thing that gets me.

I also played around and made a mug rug beause I wanted to experiment with binding. I used all scrap fabric to make this.

After making the front you take a piece of fabric that is a half inch larger all the way around. You fold in the corners and then the sides to create the binding on the front. I obviously need a lot of practice on that. My seams are all crooked and the corners don't match up. My biggest problem is always accuracy in cutting. This was just for me so it's no big deal I'll keep trying and see if I can get it better.

Stripey fabric is difficult to sew with, but I think your hexagon mat looks just fine, Ann :)

I like them both. The Christmas one will be so cute with a big candle on it.

Love x 100 the hexagonal Christmas mat.
AND Ann my biggest problem with quilting was cutting accurately.
Hugs to you and Gibbs

I don't know how you'd get the fabrics to match on the hexagon mat. Goodness! I have OCD tendencies myself. Truth--I will straighten and put things back in their exact spots after Keanna cleans this afternoon...lol! Have a good one! :)

So what is that hexagonal mat going to be used for. Looks nice.

I love the name "mug rug". That's a perfect explanation. My "Rug" is usually a paper napkin to catch the drips..(:0)
Its great how you are experimenting with different patterns. I see a big new adventure in your future.

That mat came out cute. Obviously you have to practice on things. The red, white and blue looks good.

Hurray for practicing and playing! I would never be able to create something that good.

These are really pretty! I understand your need to practice but honestly, you are so above and beyond what I can do with a needle, I am impressed.
