Table of shame

I so badly want to get my craft room organized and cleaned. It would be so more efficient if I could actually find things. I spend a lot of time searching for a tool or wondering where I stored that supply. It gets frustrating when I know it's there somewhere but I just can't find it.

This table is just a fraction of the mess I have.

I could zoom out and show you the whole room but that would just be embarrassing. I go in there and one of two things happens. Either I get distracted by something I find and start playing or I just feel too overwhelmed by all the mess. There's probably a lot I should get rid of but do you know how hard it is for a crafter to throw away supplies?

Maybe I'll just dream about a clean and organized craft room.

Of course you cannot get it done if you try to do the whole thing at once, it is too overwhelming. One tip I have heard about is to just set a goal of five minutes a day. Easy to do, and it really adds up. And at least you will be getting something done every day.

Trouble is it takes time to clean and there's always something more interesting to do, lol

I have an inkling, a messy craft room shows more efficiency than you think.

'A busy desk is a sign of a busy mind'. Don't throw out anything because you'll need it the next day - I speak from experience. :)

I know exactly how you feel, my space is a wreck at the moment.

Happy Creating and less stressing. Do what you can, when you can.

my computer desk is small, i don't do crafts, but for some reason the desk is always the messiest place in the house. i think for both of us, the biggest mess is where we love to be the most. i saw Ginny said a little at a time, but i find that will not work, because in organizing you move one thing to another place and have to clear that place and that makes another place a mess. make a plan and do it! tha t is my motto, but then leaving it like it is for a long time is what i do.. just enjoy the mess, who cares since no one sees it but You

I always have to explain what I mean when I tell people I am super organized because I am the laziest person on the planet. I don't want to expend time and energy looking for things so I put them where they belong - I use something and then put it back. Saves me time and energy and frustration. When you get frustrated enough, then you'll organize the space - until then, enjoy the serendipity that comes from being distracted and playing instead of being purposeful.

I used to be organized, but not so much anymore and I don't care. It is what it is and I'm happy. We do what we do. I think Grace is on to something though.

Have a fabulous day and tomorrow is a day off. That's something to look forward to. Big hug to you and lots of scritches to Gibbs. ♥♥♥

I feel good to be organized more. I had to clean my desk because I had a guest for lunch and that is also my table.LOL

You are not alone. This self-portrait by Richard Thompson is one of my favorites. Creativity is seldom tidy.

I'm a great believer in storage boxes, and when my playpen (aka apartment) gets too messy or I can't find things, I start with one small area and make it look more tidy. It gives me the hope and courage to continue, a little bit at a time. Unless I get the urge to immerse myself in organizing/uncluttering for a few days and celebrate afterwards.

I get that!!!! I hate to throw anything away that has to do with crafting, too. A few months ago (after years of procrastinating) I went out and bought those cheap Walmart clear plastic boxes and set them down on the floor-all open and ready and started sorting-putting paints together, etc. I had so much I had to go buy more boxes but it is so worth it. Now to just make myself put things back where they belong when I am done with the project I am working on. For months I would just walk in there- look around and shut the door because it was so overwhelming. I got started by making myself think it was like a job I would get paid for....and in a way, it was. lol

When I moved here, I assumed that my spare room would be big enough - but all the walls have either window or door on them - and when I placed the then desk in there with chair - ooops no room for me!
So now it's more a storage room, and I work around the edges of the combi living/dining room...
I just had a big overhaul of certain things, putting many things together...and I feel a little better...

I've tried the 5 minutes at a time before. I end up just moving the mess from one spot to another. Can't hurt to try again though

Aint that the truth...lol

Ann said...

That might be true but I know I spend an awful lot of time searching for where I put things down at.

Ann said...

I've done that, throw things away and then need them.

That is true. My craft room usually gets a good cleaning when I'm totally fed up with the mess. I like the sound of that. I'll enjoy the serendipity.

I'm way more organized at work than I am at home. But I'm also way more organized in the rest of my house than I am in my craft room.

Lin to the rescue....lol

LOL, That does make it a little more necessary to clean up the mess

I have plenty of storage boxes in my craft room but my problem is returning items to the proper box (or any box for that matter) when I am done using them.

I've got plenty of room although it's not a huge room. My biggest problem is having too much stuff and not being good at putting things away where they belong when I'm done with them.

You know, I have a lot of drawers in my house that look like that. Heck I haven't even used my dresser for clothes because I put other things in the drawer. Let's say I have way to many junk drawers. I know the feeling on walking out of the room and being overwhelmed. I feel that everyday. I want so much to start cleaning them but I hide away on my computer to avoid it. God give us the strength to overcome our fear of cleaning up. One thing I know for sure is that when I actually start I will feel so great about myself and what I have accomplished. Let's do it!!!
