Back then these did not come from Walmart. As a matter of fact Walmart wasn't even around in our area then.

Grandpa cookies
Years ago, when my father was still alive he used to buy the cheap generic duplex sandwich cookies. Since one package was too much for him to eat by himself, he would split them up. He would put a third of the package in a bread bag (He saved bread bags rather than buying storage bags) a second third of the package in another bread bag and the last third he would save for himself. Those bags were then delivered to my house and my brother's house for our kids. They were always known as Grandpa cookies. For some reason I decided to walk down the cookie aisle at Walmart yesterday and there on the shelf were grandpa cookies.

What a sweet memory...literally SWEET! So, where DID his cookies come from? When I was growing up, I do not remember ANY Wal-Marts around. Does that mean I am older than Wal-Mart...
How sweet and touching! ❤️
we called these fake Oreos which meant, mother could not afford Oreos but she could afford these granpa cookies. I also bought granpa cookies fro my kids and when i was eating sugar sometimes bought them for me. out of all cookies home made and bought, Oreo is my favorite
Love this memory! I have bought these, too. Personally, I like them as good as oreos but not so with Roger or the girls.
😊 what a wonderful way to be remembered!
Did you buy yourself a pack of grandpa cookies? I don't think I could have resisted with the memory to go along with it.
I like this!!
A very Sweet memory, indeed!

I don't think I have ever had these cookies or heard of them. I had Oreos but these seem a bit different. But what a sweet memory you shared with us. I bet he enjoyed delivering them and I know your and your brother's kids enjoyed eating them! Your dad was resourceful too for using bread bags. Kind of recycling and repurposing them; wise to do so!
betty
Awwwww... what a sweet memory, Ann! Did you buy any? ~Andrea xoxo
What a great memory! My grandmother used to keep Lorna Doone cookies in a metal bread box on the counter! I haven't had one in years but I bet the taste would bring me right back to grandmas' kitchen!
Lovely memory!
Did you get some, for 'old times sake'?
I save some bread bags too,now that a lot of plastic bags are outlawed. And good thing they are. But sometimes you need a 'bag.' :-)
Did you buy then? That is a really sweet story. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for sharing your memories . . . I'll bet that you never see one of these cookies, anywhere, and not think of your sweet Grandpa :)
Aww that is sweet.
That's a lovely memory Ann. Your Dad was ahead of his time for recycling those bread bags. Sweet of him to divi up the cookies :)
I've never been able to see a comparison shop here that relates to Walmarts - but I suspect there is...
As for Oreo biscuits, yes we call cookies biscuits - they did finally come to NZ but in fairly tiny packets at a premium price
