Colorado here she comes

Did you know that Colorado Springs Colorado is 1482 miles away from the small Pennsylvania town that I live in? Well of course you didn't and until recently, neither did I. So why is this important? Because my daughter left this morning to move there. She stopped by before I left for work to say good-bye and all I could do was give her a hug and tell her to drive careful. Then I cried all the way to work.
I sent her a text at lunch time and she was in Indianapolis and then around 4:00 I got a text saying 37 miles to St. Louis. She has one of her friends going with her and they plan on driving straight through. I told her that I don't care what time she gets there, I want a phone call to let me know she made it.
Since I'm a little on the sad side tonight, this is it for the blog post. Be back tomorrow

I don't even want to think about my two daughters leaving. It was bad enough when I had to drop them off at kindergarten for the first time. They were fine, it was me who was the mess. Good night and I hope you sleep well.

Praying she has a safe and uneventful trip. Know all to well how hard it is to watch them leave the nest...

I hope she has a safe trip to the Springs. Hope you get to visit her there soon too!

I feel for your loss. Is this a good thing for her? When you are better, please tell us as much as you can about what prompted this migration. I can tell you that Colorado Springs is a very beautiful place, but it will be like another world to her in comparison to home.

I hope she arrived safely!! Thank goodness she had a friend along...that is a very long drive indeed.

I wish her all the best. It is scary having your children move so far away. No matter how old they are they are still our little one's.
I am feeling the sadness with you.

FishHawk, I hope it is a good thing for her. She's going there to live with the boyfriend. There are plans to get married but nothing definite yet

Duni, me too, haven't heard from her yet

Grampy you are so right, she'll always be my little girl

The main thing is that she arrives safe and sound. I know it's tough on you but no matter how far away, she's always right there in your heart and you in hers.

Thank goodness for cell phones and computers! I know it is not the same, but I think back to years and years ago (when my parents lived in another state) and we could only talk to them about once a week because the long distance fees were outrageous. I know you will miss her terribly (DS has already flown the coop to another state, and DD is graduating high school this year *sniffle*). I highly recommend a ginormous chocolate bar in times of crisis (the bigger, the better sistafriend ;o)

Oh boy! I remember that day well. For me it was when my son boarded a plan and moved to Houston. It is still hard and it is 2 years later. Just focus on the fact that she is safe and healthy.

Oh,, Ann ... (((big hugs))) with Kayla half way through her junior year and college app plans ... I can only imagine! Makes me cry just thinking about it, much less going through it. I hope things work out well for her, I truly do. I just can't believe she is old enough for this to be happening already! It was totally just yesterday I remember being so proud and grown up feeling cause she could wear a size 7 shoe! lol

Oh Ann, I'm feeling your pain! I don't know what I would do if my kids moved far away from me. I think I might have to follow them, Lol! At least you can look forward to vacations in Colorado now! A little bit of brightness.

It's tough. Today my daughter goes back to college for the Spring semester - and she's just an hour away, but we miss her already. She lived in Florida with a mom for her last three years of high school - so we learned about the wonders of Skype for computer web chats and additional minutes purchased on the cell phone plan. Nothing can replace having them there, but thank goodness there are some things to make them feel closer.

Ann, this is good that she is willing to go out on her own. Think of all the kids who DON'T leave home, hanging on to mom and dad to help support them. You have done your job and now she has to learn to make it on her own and I think she will be fine. It sounds like she is a good kid and you have done your job well. :)

Look on the bright side--you have one lovely place to go visit now! :)

I believe she will be ok Ann. She is a good girl.

It'a such a bummer when they move so far away. That's a long drive in winter weather...let us all know when she arrives safely.

It's always sad to see someone you love go so far away...but exciting for them. I hope they arrive safe and invite you to visit soon!!

Well, all I know about Colorado is that it sends storms our way quite often in the winter :)
But that doesn't help does it? Will keep you in my thought today. Just remember - she's only 1482 miles away, not on the other side of the ocean.

Oh Ann, been there ... done that. Last summer my dd moved to Oregon! From the East coast to the West coast. Best wishes to your dd and look on the bright side, use those phones and email. She'll miss you too GUARANTEE!

I hope she has a safe trip, Ann. Hang in there. It'll probably take some time to get used to her being so far away. Hey, looking on the bright side, you'll get to vacation in Colorado, right? :o)

Don't worry, your daughter should be alright!

Thank you all for your comments. It just seems so strange having her that far away. I know she'll do fine though, no matter where she is.

Ann: She is moving to a city that holds a special place in my heart. I grew up in Colorado Springs and lived there until we moved here to the ranch in 1997. Please tell your daughter that if she ever needs anything while she's in Colo Spgs to just let me know! My parents still live in Colo Spgs, as do both of my kids. I think she'll love it there! Big hugs to you though because I know you're missing her terribly.

Very sad, indeed. I was going to ask if she was coming out here to go to school, but saw in a previous comment that she's moving out here to be with her boyfriend. It's a great place to visit. Save your pennies so you can buy a plane ticket. The best time to come is in the summer. There is soooo much to do here!!!You'll love it. And who knows, maybe you'll make the move out here too. :o)

Awwwww, it's always sad when one of the chicks fly from the nest. Don't worry, she'll be fine.

You can do it Annie, it's hard but you will be OK. My son left for Germany for 3 years with my daughter in law and grandbaby and I thought I was going to die. Turns out it was fun to send videos, recorded messages and to visit there and see them all plus the great "view". You are gonna love going to Colorado mom!
